On a serious note : Great work Lionel !!! You crushed it !!!
Please, please, please keep doing this. It is so motivating. I hope that Ironman appreciates you and Talbot... you both are doing more to grow the sport than anyone else. Go Lionel!! Go Canada!! #nolimits
More please, you and Talbot are changing the game. The big live coverage is just around the corner. Such a great group of characters. Guys like yourself, Sam, Ben, Sebastian and Jan, and That Triathlon Life, just to name a few are popularizing the sport . Love all your guy’s content.
When you understand how focused he is and how these videos actually do more bad than good for him yet he still produces them you begin to understand how much he loves the sport and fans.
i think it shows how massive not going balls to the wall the entire time helped Lionel, the fact he didnt fry himself on the bike and was able to have a monster run shows how much he has grown and the skills he has gained! gawd he is an inspiration
Sort of. It’s more he was very smart tactically for this race. But it’s annoying when the top bikers can’t separate because of outdated drafting rules. You’re never going to drop someone with a 10m draft, the pro bikers are too good. So in essence he had no choice and it allowed Sam Long to catch the main group. It also affected Ben Kanute as the packs just worked together to catch him.
@@rogerc23 I don’t understand what you mean. There’s no drafting so you break away and can pass somebody and then it’s harder for anybody else to pass without making a surge.
@@davidkaplan5517 There is drafting. It’s just from a distance of 10 meters at Galveston. Other races it’s 12 or 15m and the pros are calling for 20m. At 10m you aren’t getting the 40% draft affect of being on someone’s wheel but at 10m you get a 18-19% draft affect.....depending on who you are drafting and wind it could be more or less. Either way it’s significant and a definite, 100% definite, advantage. Even a 8-9% draft affect is significant when racing over 90km or 180km, and that draft affect can be reached at 15m draft distance. It becomes incredibly difficult to drop pros at that 10m distance still. Which is why Sam Long and Lionel couldn’t do it, even with Dreitz there who is also a strong cyclist.
@@rogerc23 so what you’re saying is if it was 20 meters then guys would actually try and lead instead of hang back and get the draft benefit? AKA nobody really can build a gap in the lead because the guys behind are using so much less energy and could surge at any point and overtake him?
@@davidkaplan5517 The guy in the lead is working harder than those in the draft train. The person right behind the lead is working 18-19% less hard. This conservation of energy could be used for a lot of things. Overtaking at a strategic point (as what happened to Ben Kanute), or they are working less hard to go as fast as the leader and could use this energy for a stronger run and defeat the leader who was doing all the work on the bike. At 20 meters you see more of what happened at Daytona and Miami. People overdoing it on the bike to stay with the strong riders and than dying on the run. Instead of them crushing the run because their bike was 18-19% easier than those they drafted off.
To directly answer Lionel's closing statement: there has never been a time I didn't enjoy this content and I believe we all want more of it. I hope Lionel and Talbot both realize how much these videos help us mortals stay motivated in sport and life.
Great race and what a swim (additional focus is already starting to pay dividends)! So cool how Lionel is endorsing Paula &Eric's That Triathlon Life 😃
Thank you so much, Lionel and Talbot. These videos are fantastic and I feel incredibly blessed to be able to follow Lionel’s race preparations and post race analysis so intimately. Please keep doing this for as many races as possible!! We know how demanding it is for both Talbot to work crazy weeks and for Lionel to make space for video when the focus is race prep, but I am so grateful for your willingness to share!! Keep up the incredible work! I am cheering for you every day, Lionel and especially on race day!!
Hard work and smart training is paying off, well done Lionel. You really inspire us to train better and harder, the sport is so much better with you being so open and honest about your struggles and achievements. True legend!
The race week series is great! Really enjoying it and sharing it with friends. It's what the sport needs, showcasing the personalities, a bit of friendly trash talk, etc. Definitely should do it every race.
Yes ,love all the effort that Talbot puts into getting coverage and covering your training . The mix of training and real life is great. Keep it coming .
I can't get enough of the Lionel Sanders video's. Talbot does an awesome job asking all the right questions. The race comments were excellent. Please keep the video's coming.
Inside the mind of Lionel gives me confidence. This is my first true race season. after training for the last two years ( minus 80 lbs + covid survivor ) mini, sprint, olympic, 70.3 and ironman are in the schedule. Lionel keeps things in perspective , thank you!!!
These are amazing! I was checking your channel every two hours just waiting for the next video! lol. sponsors need to pay you more! talbots video and AUDIO quality is the best. please keep them coming! the race weeks are amazing.
When you have 2.3K likes and zero dislikes, you're definitely doing something right! I think one key aspect of your videos is that it's not just about you but about you inside the professional triathlon community. Thanks, Talbot and Lionel, for the efforts you put into this channel. It means so much to so many.
As a triathlete, I watch these and they are absolutely amazing! It is not only inspiration for me while I train indoors for 3+ hours, but it helps me show just how amazing our field is to others. Like you said, triathlon is changing and others need to see it for all its glory!
Please keep posting these videos! The build up a few days before, the day of, and most importantly the post race analysis. As a novice to the sport, I learn so much just from watching and listening, it’s not only incredible, but also super motivating to go out and push myself when needed and hold-off when training demands it. Hydration, hydration, hydration!
Like everyone else is saying - this format works brilliantly and makes for a deeper appreciation of Tri by stitching Training, Racing and Recovery together into one story.
Well done on a really balanced and strategic execution Lionel. Was delighted to see your swim improve with all that work with others and willing to try new things that you wouldn’t before. Damn right we want to see more about your training and nutrition and how you will maintain and build form towards Kona
Congratulations Lionel! So great to see you putting all the puzzle pieces together. Just keep doing what you and Talbot are doing - so look forward to all your videos.

Especially with the lack of video capture from the actual race presenters, these have been awesome. Love the lead up and recap. Thanks Talbot and Lionel! Keep ‘em coming!! 👍👍
These videos are the best! I've always appreciated Lionel's honesty and self deprecation - both refreshing and 'funny'. Behind the scenes stuff is priceless - keep up the great work!
Great job Lionel. Talbot and yourself put out the best pre race and post race recaps. Please keep doing them. Thanks to both of you for all the material you share with us. Looking forward to the next one.
Love it. Keep this up! It is so cool listening to you describe the evolution of the sport in a way that doesn't take away from the performances of the past, it simply highlights that everyone is gotten better.
