The assumption that Cannibal is bigger than Balerion is incorrect for at least three reasons:
    1. If it were bigger, it would be called "largest dragon" and not " largest WILD dragon".
    2. Vhagar would not be called the biggest dragon that lived during the Dance.
    3. Balerion would not be referred to as the largest and oldest dragon living in Westeros.

This is easily proven false by a singular fact. The Cannibal is not a Targaryen dragon, as such they have no records of it's age or size and neither is he safe to approach or measure him since, yk, he'd probably kill and/or eat you.
There's also the fact that Cannibal sightings have always been rare in the books so gauging his size accurately is nearly impossible. The fact that the Cannibal has been around the longest AND that he has not lived a day in captivity which hinders a dragon's growth as stated in the books is enough reason to consider him to be very easily bigger than Balerion.

Some among the smallfolk of Dragonstone claimed that the Cannibal lived on the island even before the Targaryens arrived in 114 BC, a possibility that would make him, despite his size not being considered bigger than that of Vhagar and Vermithor, the oldest living dragon in Westeros at the time of the Dance of the Dragons, even older than Vhagar".

Dragons growing in wild grow to thier max size and they keep growing until death this is already confirmed in the books so its impossible that cannibal a wild dragon which eats other dragon is smaller than ballerion
Its also said sheep stealer was close to vermithors size and that may be true and cannibal is larger than sheep stealer so cannibal is larger than vermithor
They reason why viewers dont agree that cannibal is probably larger than balerion or of same size is because the writters didnt give anything more about him
But if u actually look at everything which has been told about dragons in genral than u can easily say cannibal isnt smaller than ballerion
And also when they address size of dragons they say “largest of targeryean dragon” or “largest seen dragon”
So it could be safe to say that cannibal probably hunted at night when its easier and less troublesome rather than at day when people and dragons are awake basically less resistance from the prey
Think about it T-Rex was one of the largest predators and yet it chose to scavange rather than hunt so same applies for cannibal too

If the Cannibal was that dangerous then bigger dragons would have to worry about him but he only attacked baby dragons, or hatchlings which means he wouldn’t have possed a threat to larger dragons. Large dragons have lived on dragon stone for years before the dragon pit and no dragons larger then babies were hunted by the cannibal. I think that the Cannibal is just a small folk tale. The Cannibal was literally named by the small folk. No Dragon rider has seen or even came across the Cannibal. Do you really believe that Rhaenyra, who spent years on Dragon Stone and housed many dragons there never came across the Cannibal??? Why didn’t the Cannibal attack ANY of the dragons on Dragon Stone? He/She could’ve easily ate Moondancer, Syrax, Caraxes, Vermax, and Silverwing. The only dragons on Dragon Stone that could stand a stance against this unstoppable dragon is Meleys and Vermithor. This is another example of taking stories at face value. The Cannibal is just folklore. Also the only dragon mentioned to be killed by the Cannibal is Grey Ghost…however Grey Ghost wasn’t killed by the Cannibal it was killed by Sunfyre. The Cannibal is literally the Big Foot and the Loch Ness monster of this series. But that’s just my opinion.

Cannibal was nowhere near Vaghars size or that of even vermithor, had it been near that big, it would pose serious threat to all the smaller dragons and beasts such as seasmoke and others would also happen to fall in that category, save Vermithor and Vaghar as Cannibal was known to go for smaller creatures….so that would make Cannibal’s very existence a threat and a serious concern for the rulers, because they rule with the power provided by dragons they had, and Cannibal would be a concern so big that he’d probably be a significant part of story…which he is not, and though its true cannibal is old that doesn’t mean he’d be as big, growing is different for all dragons….dragon that big is no joke to find sparse mentions
