I grew up camping in the sixties with a dual-burner Coleman stove. You're smart to get yours now 'cause they're disappearing. I just bought two 533's while they're still here. Propane/butane is so much more expensive for no benefit...best wishes from Texas-
Thankyou for the comment. Yes they are rare that’s for sure. I picked up an old 3 burner model aswell from a lady in town. Couldn’t go past it. But I still love the 533. Thanks for watching the video
@@gravyboatcookingandcamping9930 You know, I have an Esbit and a FireDragon and a Trangia, but let's face it: if you can handle the weight and size, something like a #533 is much, much more convenient.
Since your video was recommended, I figure I better leave my little story. Recently I went looking for some liquid gas stoves and lanterns. This was to show my young Nieces and Nephews how I camped when I was their age. I was able to get a Brand New in the box Coleman 413 2 Burner stove from 1988, for only $50 locally. Then recently on eBay I won the bid to get a working Lantern from 1972 for $7.50 and a working Coleman 424 Dual Fuel stove from 2014 for $30. Pretty good buys.
Love the 533's just something to add just for parts replacement sake. That tube that runs across the top of the burner is actually called the generator not vaporizer, I can see why people call it that, but you'll need to know the correct name in order to get a replacement part.
Cheers mate. Yeh got that one wrong. Got an old three burner the other day. Will do a vid on it soon too. That’s where I worked out what they’re called as it’s hard to find another one.

No matter if the generator is heaten up and the amount of pumps. On low setting it is nice an blue. Can it be, that it is because of the tank is low on fuel? Or doesnt that play a role?
Not sure mate, I find that the higher it is the more yellow flame but nice blue on low aswell. I don’t know if the amount of fuel in the tank plays too much of a role other than taking more pumps to prime
Been looking to get another dual fuel single burner Coleman so have been watching videos to reaffirm what a great little stove it is. Onliest problem with unleaded car gas is it burns dirty, at least in the USA with all the fuel additives and what not. It still works a treat! Good video. Mahalo!
Great little demo thanks. When using unleaded as the fuel source does the whole thing stink of petrol when you’re cooking ? Fumes from the flame ? Cheers
Have you had any problems with the generator valve sticking (around the low position) and causing fuel to spill over the fuel tank and the whole thing going up in flames. I have an older version and it’s fantastic but I’ve tried 3 of the new ones and they all had faulty valve/generators and have since been returned, these are all from Perth WA and I’ve now purchased one from eastern states in the hope it’s just a dud batch
I haven’t had an issue but I have heard that you need to replace seals on them. I think they sell a service kit. Would be bloody scary if the whole thing went up in flames though 🤯. Hopefully just a dud batch for you and you get your 💰 worth as it is a great little stove.
Use supreme unleaded I use shell here in the UK and also when you turn the stove off give it a few pumps to pressure the system then release the pressure by opening the valve so the generator and all the seals get a coating of fuel before you put it away. It’s a trick that us fishermen here in the uk use to keep the stoves working at prime.
You can clean the generators by soaking them in gasoline for 2 days. Then take carb cleaner and blow it out with a rubber tipped blow gun with compressed air. When the fuel doesnt atomizer properly it squirts fuel instead of a gas. That causes the fire.
I have not found that on any of my Colemans. I have bought and gifted several and shown many people how to use these and have never experienced adverse affects to pumping until the plunger won't depress any further without significant resistance. I also just looked at the instructions that came with my 2001 multi fuel burner as well as my large platform twin burner and there is zero mention of 'over pressure'. In fact, the twin burner says to fill the tank when its level until fuel reaches the overflow point and then to pump it 30x times. The fuel tank builds significant resistance by 22-25 pumps and by pump 30 its really hard.
better to run it on shellite, it can run on petrol but it will clog faster and i dont think the components last as long. coleman camp fuel is just shellite but they put some rust inhibitor in it and i think 1 or 2 other additives to make it burn a little bit better you don't need to pump it while it's warming up, in fact you can overpump it and the seals won't last as long, you can pump it while it's going if it's been on for a while and the pressure is getting a bit low because the tank is emptying, but you should only really need to pump it up before you light it, between 30 - 50 pumps (35 - 45 is what most people find works well) and once you have turned it off, release the pressure, if you store it pressurised, that also lowers the lifespan of the seals.
Hey, I'm just curious if you only used petrol in this? A lot of owners are saying that you should only run white gas and save the petrol / unleaded for emergencies (or use white gas every 3rd tank as its supposed to clean the generator) as it clogs up the generator. I'm wanting to buy one that's why I'm asking, just trying to do my homework before I buy Do you still use this stove btw?
Thanks for the reply, I ended up buying 2 in the end lol That's good though, how long have you owned it for now? Some people get many decades out of their stove
@@JoshSinnott97 yeh mate I’ve probably had it 3 years now. Bloody great stove. I have a really old three burner model but it needs some parts. Can’t decide whether I do it up or sell it off
I've got a Coleman Exponent single burner petrol stove that has been used heaps of times over the past 15 years and recently a pin hole leak appeared in the tank bottom. so I bought a Coleman 533. both of them work the same principle and it looks like the generator, burner and pump are identical but the 533 has a slightly larger tank. I find the older Exponent burns a blue flame easier than the 533 for some reason. I've since soldered up the pin hole leak in the Exponent, and now have two working stoves. Used to be able to get Coleman fuel but dont seem to be able to get it here in Australia anymore. I mostly use unleaded anyway, but find Shellite, which is white gas and probably same as Colaman fuel, works best. to get them firing blue flame quicker I run a lit match along the generator tube to preheat before turning the fuel on
I know you say you prefer this over propane for cold weather but I'm curious, do any canister fuels work well in the cold? Seems to me the fuel with liquid canisters is just more dense so you can take a lot more with you in the same space tank. Do these liquid fuel stoves work well at -30 Celsius.
Can’t back that up at -30 as it never gets to that here in Australia. But I find that our butane canister freeze up at cold temps where as unleaded doesn’t
Coleman fuel (white gas) Is very pure gasoline (the stuff that comes out of the pump), but the compatibility with gasoline engines is non-existent. Pump gas has a lot of additives that do a lot of useful things, but they also give it a short shelf life. Coleman fuel (white gas) has an octane rating of around 50, pump gas starts around 90. Octane is resistance to ignition so if you use Coleman fuel in your car it will knock. White gas, if properly sealed, can last over 10 years, while pump gas need fuel stabilizer to last more than a few months.
I have an old 3 burner that works well but it is very large to carry and store. But yes the idea is the same although the burners all run of the same generator so the pressure seems to drop off a bit as you light more burners.
