    Thanks for this, high quality. Rosedale Park was my hood from 64-68. I attended Redford HS. You showed the Community House where we attended dances, and our block on Piedmont St. The McDonalds at 5:39 was where the "greasers" and "frats" would rumble. Ted Nugent lived in North Rosedale then.

Yet Detroit has come a long way from being just the Motor City. I haven't been to a city yet that doesn't remind me of Detroit. I lived in Louisville Kentucky for 2yrs. I grew up in South Rosedale. That McDonald's opened in I think 1960. I remember it took me and my sister two years to convince our parents to let the family have a meal there.
      You see hamburger places in Detroit had a bad reputation with gang toughs hanging around at the pay phones. I later learned that was why McDonald's restaurants never had pay phones because the founder Ray Kroc was sensitive to that fact.

    "Grandmont" and "Grandmont #1" probably come from the name of original subdivision "plats" when the area was first sold to be developed. If you check real estate listings, you will find nearby areas that are "Grandmont #3," and so forth.
    My guess is the other platted Grandmont subdivisions built around that time were not as ritzy, so those subs might not have had organized owner groups maintaining signs proudly stating the name of the sub.

    • @TakenTook
      @TakenTook Год назад

      Checking further, the plat for Grandmont # 2 is between the Southfield freeway and Memorial, north of Glendale, and one block south of Schoolcraft.
      The plat for Grandmont # 3 is tiny, just a couple of blocks near the corner of Glendale and Memorial.
      There does not seem to be a Grandmont # 4, etc.
      The Grandmont without a number looks like it was established in 1916, and the other ones were in 1923 and 1924

    My sister recently connected with a cousin of ours in North Rosedale Park, on Bretton Road (sister's in the Dallas area, we're in LA). I recall as a small child (around 1950) visiting our cousins on Warwick in Rosedale Park, and being SO impressed at how the "rich" people lived. I'm pleased to see how well the area has maintained, tho' I recall a few years ago that many of these houses could be bought for $2,500 and the promise to live there and maintain the property. NRP is beautiful, with wide streets, tall trees, lovely lawns, and large brick homes. It amazes me that one of these large homes can be bought for what amounts to the down payment on a house in Los Angeles. Maybe we all should retire to North Rosedale Park!

    • @niecyj.1782
