  • Hello String Lovers! I'm back with another gear review. I got contacted by Headway to test out their new and improved version of the band. The Band 2. This is my real life review about the product. Is it worth it? Who is it for? Watch my review and feel free to ask me questions. I go through most details, but for length purpose I try to stick with something somehow concise.
It's been asked many times! My next video will be a blind test of different microphones;)
If you like my video, don't forget to share it, like it and if it's not done yet. Subscribe to my channel. Thanks in advance!

I did not research properly and purchased a fishman v200 and discovered i would have to cut the bridge to make it fit so obviously decided not to and returned it. This pickup looks like an excellent design and will purchase it. Thanks for your review

This feeds back at higher levels(well the band 1 does)because it essentially an open mic close to the f-holes. If you are playing with loud acoustic instruments or rock instruments such as drums or guitar it won’t cut through without feeding back in my experience.

@@johnmc3862 thanks for the advise, maybe the band 2 is someway better hopefully. From what ive read and heard the band does seam best choice, i will see how i will be able to avoid feedback situations.

I’ve got the original Band pickup. I’ve got two in fact. You can get them for less than £100 on EBay. Clearly the best pickup for playing in a folk or rock Band situation. It’s quite a warm sound as you say, so it pairs well with a brighter violin. The fact that it dampens some of the top vibrations is a good thing too as it helps with feedback rejection. Electric guitars with solid bodies are designed that way for the same reason. The best part is, you can fit exactly the same pickup to a £200 Stentor or a £20 million Strad less than 2 minutes. Big fan. 🤘

It is a great pickup for loud stage indeed. Their say “make it louder” make all it sense! Glad you like it. I would like to compare the original band to the band 2. Cheers Chris

I got feedback from the band at higher gain levels. (There is no reason to believe the band2 is too different. It has quite a bassy sound but is warm. If you have time for a soundcheck and an engineer it can be equalised. If you play in a loud stage environment it simply won’t cut through the other instruments. It will feedback if approaching their volume.

just got one and I'm dealing with a pretty loud buzz/hum below 100hz. Have you experienced anything like that?

    • @Chrissummerill

@@othmane4474 nope. Have you tried a variety of jack leads. Are you running it through a DI?

I have tried multiple jack leads.
I’m using a radial j48 DI box and an apollo mkII audio interface.
I got one for cheap from ebay (the band1) and faced this hum/buzz issue so I decided to go for the band2. I received it today and unfortunately i’m facing the same problem. I have tried plugging it directly to the apollo, but again, same problem. Like as soon as i plug it in i hear this loud buzz; it has nothing to do with the pick up placement.
I was wondering if that’s just the way they behave. Clearly after watching this video, that’s not true. Maybe I should get it directly from their website?

We still don’t know the difference between the Band and the Band2? I find this although good, feeds back in noisy stage environments. Its sounds great here in a quite room.
