The instructor is a natural on camera. He should have his own channel.
Your friend really has a great gift of instilling confidence in his students when they have the controls.
Even in France
We know about those guys.
They fought hard to protect other fellow pilots , and they died for it.
humble respect from France America.( black or white )
I'm pretty sure thats a myth that they never lost a b-17.
@@jadeng1147 Nah man look into the history of them more. They never lost one. I fly at the foundation and they definitely highlight it.
The Tuskegee Airmen were credited by USAAF higher commands with the following accomplishment:
179 bomber escort missions, with a good record of protection, losing bombers on only seven missions for a total of only 27 allied bomber loses, compared to an average of 46 loses among other 15th Air Force P-51 groups.
@@brianevans656 So better than their white counterparts, but did still lose bombers, to clarify.
Well,
Looks like I made a mistake in my statement.
I will , gentlemen , correct it immediately ....
All the best , American friends.
Awesome CFI! You can tell that guy loves his job.
That kid knows how to instruct and keep a student engaged i see a nice aviation life ahead of him, wish more instructors were like him.
What a great young pilot!
Awesome young pilot! Thanks Steveo for featuring the academy. 👍💥
Wow, I NOW know where I can take my family for an aerobatic "discovery flight." Excellent place to travel for a history lesson. Thanks!
You would definitely enjoy the flight with them! So much fun!
@@steveo1kinevo check the other comments. You got a copy cat dropping weird messages.
@@scnichols65 same here
@@steveo1kinevo I got one of those too...with a number to contact! 😅🤦🏻♂️
Your IP for the flight is a talented and confident young man. Students will be lucky to have him as their instructor.
Can I get flight lessons from this great young man? What an inspiration!
Nice wow haven a blast 👍👍👍
Incredible young pilot. What a great roll model for young pilots in training or those who want to become pilots.
What’s with the phone number Steve?
That is a spam account. Do not respond to it.
@@steveo1kinevo I figured that out. Thanks.
I think I found my new CFI. This man has one of the best attitudes I’ve ever seen in an instructor.
As a member of the red tail scholarship I love the experience and flying in the decathlon was a big deal! Glad you got to come down and fly at our airfield Man!!!
Awesome! You can tell T-dog loves this. What a great attitude he's got and it's refreshing to see such historical knowledge for a young man. No youngsters these days know who Bob Hoover was, much less who Patty Wagstaff is.
I'd fly with that guy any day. What a great instructor!
Haha! Best line I’ve heard from someone on the controls, “ It’s not so much about the airspeed”
As an edit to add, this guy looks like a lot of fun to fly and hang with 🤙 great skills bro
What an amazing instructor! Very smooth, makes you feel comfortable with his confidence without being cocky.
Alabama the beautiful. I wish I could fly thank you
Even as a seasoned pilot - the childish joy in Steveo’s voice through this flight is contagious!
When I was a young man every time I heard Mr. Hoover was coming to town I made sure to make the show. Growing up Bob and Chuck Yeager was like men from a magical place. Those two men will remain in the history books forever. Tuskegee airmen will also be in the history books as legends, thank you for this video.
Dad made sure we never missed Bob Hoover, Art Scholl, et.al. when they were in town, usually the AOPA airshow at KFFZ.
That thing is FUN
Love from India 🇮🇳
I wanna go fly with this dude. He’s a great instructor.
I really enjoyed that video Steve. That young man was extremely sharp and knowledgeable. Very awesome.
My wife and I had the pleasure to meet a few of the Tuskegee Airmen several years ago. What a proud group of pilots and rightfully so. Thanks for doing this Steveo!!
So fun. This kid knows how to have some fun.
Very nice, this academy seems to train their pilots very well. I can tell by how the young man follows his checklists throughout the flight.
The most fun I ever had was in a Decathlon doing incredible maneuvers.
A great and personable instructor. Really enjoyed watching him work. He's also a great ambassador for the Tuskegee Airman. Great video...
Man that was almost as fun as being there. Great skills and relaxed instructor, but it was Stevo, so I guess he knows you are a great pilot, although first time in a Decathlon. When I was 22 my father (air ambulance pilot/RCAF Lancasters et. al) knowing I was going for a planned amputation of my left leg above the knee (osteosarcoma) had a crazy friend of his give me 7.5 hours instruction. This guy was a 20,000 hour pilot who has multi ratings and CFI. He taught me in a Cessna 150, but he also did some no no's. He did a loop and a hammerhead one of the flights. He basically said if you do it wrong the wings would fold up as it was not certified for aerobatics. He gave me very little notice before doing the hammerhead, and soon after the loop. It was exhilarating to say the least. I never continued training even though I suppose there are above knee amputee pilots. Now I love flying the 172 with a garmin 1000 on the sim. I even just purchased the pilot's manual, 'Flight School PM 1. You never know, I might inquire if I could get my certificate if an instructor is willing to teach a 61 year old amputee. Cheers from Regina, Saskatchewan Canada
That kid is a natural pilot and instructor. His control inputs were spot on
Great fun day!
John Garrett is a pilot out of Olympia WA. a great musician with North Cascades Concert band who owns a 1980 Bellanca 7GCBC and takes fellow North Cascades Band Members and friends up for a little aerobatics.
I've never been up with him, but it looks like real fun.
Growing up back East , I had a friend in Lakewood,NJ called George Watson.
He was a support ground crew member of the Tuskegee Airman and wrote a book about them.
He honored me with a copy.
They had a wonderful history and it's good to know they are not forgotten
Thanks' for sharing your flight,
You are both awesome pilots!,
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Once again another outstanding video. And that young flight instructor friend of you, such profiency and professionalism awesome
I visited the museum there about 10 years ago. I had gotten to ride in a P-51D back in the previous fall and was all about seeing more of them. A friend of mine knew a B-17 pilot from WWII who told him they knew if the Red Tails were the escorts, they were sure to make it home.
That instructor needs his own channel! Well done!
Thank all y'all from an Aeronca 7 and 8 guy who trained at Stead, NV. In memory of Captain Robert Ashby, a Tuskegee Airman, who passed away this year. He was recalled for Korea, where Dad flew with him in 3rd BW B-26 Invaders. It turns out my uncle knew him in later years as a member of their church in Denver. Small worlds... Flying the Super D at Stead during the winter was a lot of fun, but just remember to keep your feet dancing, alive on the rudder pedals, and not leave the airplane until it's tied down. We'd tie the airplane down even when we 'd land for a little beachcombing in Alaska. I retired from there, now an hour's drive from the Quest Aircraft factory, makers of the Kodiak, and closer to their training operator, Spokane Turbine Center. (nod to Missionary Bush Pilot).
Awesome instructor...Stevo did a great job with his help...
Instructor pilot is a huge asset to this org.
Awesome. Thanks for having me along guys.
I never thought that I would do a cameo on Steveo’s channel! I was flying in Eufaula, Alabama that day with the same 122.8 radio frequency as Tuskegee. I could here Champ 82603 left base to final 18. Great work Steveo!
Smiling - so many reasons. A beautiful thing!
One of my long time veteran brothers was Lt Col. Leo Grey, who was a "Red Tail" pilot and retired from the Air Force. He sadly passed away a few years ago and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery...
Great content Steveo. What a fantastic CFI. Such confidence in himself, his aircraft, and his student. A pleasure to watch and ride along with.
I have still yet to get my tailwheel endorsement. Definitely on my bucket list. Looked like a fun flight!
Better get cracking with that list. The world is SO messed up, no one can predict except maybe Gerald Celente. He predicted in 1999 that terrorism would the the thing in the next decade. And here we are, look him up.
Do it. It was one of the coolest things I’ve done as a pilot. BTW love your videos.
Do you get an actual endorsement nowadays or just an instructor sign-off?
@@colins2 yep per FAR61.31(i) you are required to receive and log training and get endorsed.
@@aviator1552 Thanks. I remember I did mine back in the 80s and had to have logged training and a sign off for insurance purposes. I believe it was 10 hours supervised dual after initial training.
Back in the 90's I was in a flying club in Minnesota with one of these. The "N" number was 138AC. Loved flying this plane, I have hundreds of hours of aerobatics in it. I have flown Pitts and Eagles but the Super Decathlon was always my favorite.
I remember "flying" a WWII simulator and executing some of these maneuvers quite often to get into better positions for attack. Great to see it from the inside and being talked through it. Inverting and then pulling back was a great way to reverse direction without getting nailed.
I had never heard of this organization. What a great group of people. I encourage all who are able to consider donating.
Absolutely brilliant video - great instructor and wonderful aircraft
What a cool instructor , he can be seen as a great tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen .I Love it.
Awesome video! What a great and friendly attitude that young man had! Really good pilot! Very enjoyable!!!
Bright young man..... with a Bright future.
He’s headed to UPT in the Air Force!
brought back great memories of flying a super D back in the mid 80"s out of Lawrence, MA. Don Dutton taught me to fly 2520Z and was a great
instructor. Had a blast practicing aerobatics and wished I could of stayed with it but life has a way of choosing a different course. I still see old
friends that I took up in the plane telling me what a great time it was. They aren't lyin.
I was on a long cross country and stopped into Red Tail and met all these guys there. Impressive operation, close to Lake Martin, Montgomery and Many other places. They admired my 170B and off I went. Real cool to see this video. I’ll go back again and buy some Decathalon instruction next time.
Well that was fun. He’s a good instructor. Lots of confidence. Thanks for sharing🇨🇦
Thanks for the ride mr. At 6g I'm glad there wasn't a mess to clean up!
This was one of your BEST videos Steve! You highlighted a very important scholarship program sir, THANK YOU for going there and doing this video - I certainly appreciate it. My parents had lived in Auburn, and they wanted me to go to this museum every time I visited them!
Steve, I am so full of emotion and gratitude right now. I am a Black 600 hr instrumented rated pilot who watches all of your videos, with enjoyment, admiration and learning. BUT, I have to say, this one made my year ! God bless you for showing us Moton and introducing us to such a fine young man 🙏🏾 I pray all of his aspirations will be met. Thank you Steveo 👏🏽
Great to highlight those brave Tuskegee airman. Looks like you had fun today. Hope the family and you are doing well. Take care and God Bless. Be safe. 'Spin'
I've been to so many airshow with Patty Wagstsff and Bob Hoover is not even funny. I still have picture from all those airshow that I took with My Minolta 5000i. This video with Steveo takes me back to some great days. Your pilot friend is one cool customer. 👍
Hello from Montgomery, AL!! Love the videos Steveo! Hope you had a good time in Alabama.
I've read about them in WW2 but didn't know that was there. What a fine young man and great pilot!! Thanks much for the ride guys, really enjoyed that!! 8) --gary
Steve you must have 10 thousand comments of joy for you and the young man. I enjoy your channel. I have a Grandson over in Baton Rouge. Attending LSU. I want him to learn how to fly. Looks like we have found the right place. Once again Thanks to the both of you,
Wow, what a great instructor. Everything about him seems topnotch professionalism. And he was taught by Pattie? Just icing on the cake. Nice video!
that was awesome!! i had an ear to ear grin during those stunts!
It’s like the ultimate roller coaster!
@@steveo1kinevo Like a roller coaster where you could actually die.
Great professional flying and I’m very proud to seeing this young man using his gift to teaching and most of all flying my favorite Tailwheel Aircraft the Super Decathlon. Great to see you guys having a blast of a time
Wow...what a talented young man...👍🏼..He was the ultimate professional..He represents his profession well....My stomach was turning here 🤢 in those turns and rolls..... Incredible flight though.... Steveo you did great, he had you covered...could tell how much trust you had in him...Thank you both for the ride along..
T-Dog is a boss! I'll definitely have to fly my Dakota out that way sometime. I love flying into Tuscaloosa. A new place to add to the fly list. Great video! Thanks, Redtail!!!

The classic "Bob Hoover roll". Love it.
Awesome video. Mad respect to the Tuskegee Airmen in what they accomplished in WWII and the values that are taught and instilled at the Red Tail Academy. I looked at their website before I a commented because I wanted to understand what their about and I firmly agree that what they are doing is great beyond all others.
I did part of my upset recovery training in a decathlon. Great plane. Having said that, wearing parachutes in one is the definition of optimism, particularly if you are in the back seat. Ingress and egress in those suckers is like beginners contortionist training.
Even so it was great fun, especially flying inverted.
I am privileged to have known a Tuskegee airman! JR (James Roland) McClain was a good friend, a retired NYC firefighter, and a fellow ham radio operator! Thank you for posting this!
“ Undercarriage is down and welded!” 😂
With all that flying sideways, upside down and stuff the damn thing could have fallen off.
These are the S1k’s i like. Out of your element and learning. Perfect.
The Benjamin O. Davis Award I received from Civil Air Patrol back in 2017 was named after General Davis, the commander of the Tuskegee Airmen. I've also had the great privilege to meet a few of the original Tuskegee Airmen in person during my nearly 14 years in Civil Air Patrol, a once in a lifetime experience!
My home State! I have flown over this field a couple of times and didn’t know they had these services. And, i agree about the instructor being a natural on camera. He should get his own channel!
What a kool dude! That was awesome!
When I get done with flight training and get my PPL, I'm going to see this guy! Awesome instructor. Not too far away from me either.
Good memories from that airport. During the time that I was training for my commercial, I was doing some cross country with a friend in the area when we decided to land to check out the museum. Turns out that there was also a dz at the airport so I rented gear and made one skydive that day!
Thank for sharing.
That was so much fun. I have to say, I was a little scared when you guys were taken off and I saw smoke coming out from under the plane. I was thinking, "do they realize they have engine problems?" I was happy to know if was just the fabricated smoke for show. The flight was a blast. I watched a video of your friend before and how he got started flying. Glad to see you guys hook up. One of the best videos for sure.
He did good teaching you how to make those maneuvers nice job.
I would have liked a deeper dive into the history of that strip, and the region. Not only is it the home of the Airmen, the institute nearby was where experiments were performed on US citizens without their knowledge. Cool flight, but to me it's like landing at Kitty Hawk just to get a coke.
My dad said they were always very glad to see the red-nosed planes flying nearby when he was in North Africa (this was when they were still using P-40s and didn't have the red tails yet). He saw them some when he was in Italy, but I don't think they had many ground attack missions where he was.
What a great instructor smooth and calm and made it fun. Enjoyed this video from beginning to end....
Took aerobatics in a Super Decathlon looked just like this. All training from front seat. Fun. Major learning experience, have those seat belts tight when you do negative g.
SUCH COOL STUFF YOU BOTH DO.
PILOTS HAVE ALL THE FUN
Oh man, I imagine you loved the hummer head, Stevo. You are right, rear seat landing should be challenging one for the first time! We can tell from your face expression :)
Thanks for sharing exciting video!
REDTAILS!!! i love you for this. Keep doing more podcast of the Tuskegee airmen and other pilots.
What an incredibly FUN video and your young host is clearly a gifted pilot and a gifted teacher. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Steveo.....Man I wish I knew you you gonna be so close to my home about 25 miles from Moton Field! The history of Moton Field and Tuskegee, Al goes back many many decades as many Americans know so well. I hope T-Dog informed you that the modern Moton Field is not the same Moton Field where the Tuskegee Airmen actually trained. The original field is only a few miles to the south and west and is sadly unrecognizable today. Thanks to instructor and student for a safe and entertaining flight!
So good to see the young guys carrying on the traditions, getting taught by Patty Wagstaff there's something to be proud of. Awesome landing Steve I got my tailwheel endorsement in a Citibria and I can tell you my first landing or should I say attempt at landing wasn't anywhere near that good. Have been meaning to get down there and visit the museum will have to make that happen.
Your friend is a very good pilot and as cool as a cucumber . Very good video .
@@steveo1kinevo759 Don't understand ?
That was a fake profile. Not me.
Its nice to see you just enjoying the flight and having fun. I know you have to be professional when flying the tbm. Nothing but smiles when im watching.
Wow, that was awesome SteveO! Great to see you step outside of your comfort zone and still excell. And your instructor friend was incredibly impressive. Bravo!!!
Great video reminds me of learning areos on a citabria Especially the hammerheads
Where it used to end up on its back And the instructor in fits of laughter just had to center everything and it’s sorted itself out excellent aircraft.
This was a handsome video of aerobatics. Nice done. Sympathy on the buddy in front. He gives confidence and joy of real sky flying. Joy to watch. 👍😀☀️
I talked a retired UAL Captain into showing me how to loop my Cessna 140. Next he checked me out in my RV-4 and he showed me a lot of stuff. Good times. The power off stall is the most radical. It`s amazing how fast you swap ends.
The greatest, deepest respect for the Tuskegee Airmen. Pilots, ground crew, all who served their country. I hope to visit once we get over Covid. Thanks for sharing this special place.
Red Tails is one of my favorite movies. Those pilots were true Patriots. Great video. If only I were still a young man. :-)
Great fun and a great look at the historic place. Thanks for sharing .
Got my tailwheel endorsement in a super Decathlon. Best aircraft I've ever flown.
That place is oozing with history. I hope to visit one day. Thanks so much for the video. That young buck rocks! Cheers from 🇨🇦 Steevo, your great as usual. Lol.
