Well done to the narrator that he called her "Selesh", this is the correct pronounciation of the Hungarian family name "Szeles", in Hungarian language "sz" is to be pronounced as "s" and "s" as "sh", complete opposite of Polish :) By the way (as a fun fact), "szeles" means windy in Hungarian. So the full name of Szeles Mónika literally translates as "Monica Windy".
Sadly, like so many others, tennis really hurt her (and not just the stabbing). She mentioned in her book that by her early teens she was already comfort eating because of the loneliness she was feeling.
Would love watching her waiting for the first ball she could pull her opponent wide with, then she would step up and then start the "windshield wipers" back and forth, punishing her opponent, going side to side.
jim courier said when nick was upset at how he was hitting the ball or how another player was hitting the ball, he would send them to go hit with monica. so they could see how they were supposed to hit the ball.
You people see what you want to see and become ignorant of realities. Many athletes from all sports have been very successful for a couple or a few years then are not, and read that WELL, they have been VERY successful, then are not: Seles was no exception. That paper cut to her back was just that, a paper cut. The real problem was she allowed self-pity to overwhelm her if by just a moment, that moment cast a shadow over her and she instead went into some poor eating choices, and that was HER OWN doing. But, other players had figured her out and her downfall was inescapable.
@@markuse3472 Here are some eye-opening stats: Seles won 8 slams within 3 years pre-stabbing which is very impressive. Since WW2 there were only 7 other cases when a female player won 7-9 slams in a 3-year time frame. But what did those players win in the FOLLOWING 3 years on average? The answer - only 2.4 slams…
@@markuse3472 Another one: Seles won 3 AO in a row in 1991-93. And 3 FO in a row in 1990-92 which is also impressive. Since WW2 there were 16 other cases in which a female player also won 3 slams in a row at the same event. But how often did this player manage to add even a 4th in the next year? The answer - only 3 times…
Monica will forever be my Tennis queen!!
My favorite player all time. Watched Monica vs Arancha Sanchez Vicario at the Virginia Slims Long Beach, Ca. back in early 90s. Great tennis.
Something special in this young girl... not only tennis skills.
So self-confident
But mentally weak, sadly.
@@carrerau7138go away no one cares what you think 💭
@@carrerau7138 Not on the court.

@@fredfutterfummler5106 Many people wroungly pronounce it as "seles" with two s (also at the end)
awesome ...after all this year!!
A big champion!
Such a grounded little girl.
Funny how a few years later, she became such a giggler. You don't see that at age 13-14.
Sadly, like so many others, tennis really hurt her (and not just the stabbing). She mentioned in her book that by her early teens she was already comfort eating because of the loneliness she was feeling.
The world best ever the best
Yeah, with zero Wimbledon titles.
You 🤡…

Only a horrible knife held her back from becoming the GREATEST Ever!
Exactly !!! She was literally stabbed in the back!!!
How would she have become the greatest ever with Steffi (back in peak form). Hingis, Davenport, the Williams sisters???
Don’t be asinine, please!

mr Soros and me think Monica is Hungarn ungurica
Ma oggi sta insieme ad un ottantenne?? 😱
Remember what Steffi asked back when someone asked her to marry her. How much money do you have? Monica has taken this too serious 🙂
