@@ProDogTrainingin regards to breaking up a dog fight, what about blinding the dog first, by putting a shirt over it head and then following your instructions? Your thoughts
Thanks for this video. It’s great info. I find this technique to work best as well. The one thing this video and most others miss to address is that most times your breaking up the fight on your own. As someone that’s broken up a lot of dog fights, you’re in it alone. Don’t wait on or expect the other dog owner to step in (some do), 9 out of 10 times the owners stand in shock, feign indifference or honestly don’t know how to handle the situation.
Exactly. The way this video shows allows you to face the other dog and at least be assertive by looking directly at him and telling firmly to go away. Of course, you’ll want to be standing over the more aggressive dog in the fight.
Shalom from the Ohio valley 🙏 Thank you so much for using models NOT real dogs to demonstrate. I quit watching some videos about animal dramatization due to I believe they actually set up animals in a distressing situation. Shame on anyone causing abuse on innocent animals. You are a trusted friend of animals in my opinion and I'm subscribing
I’ve broken up fights between GSD’s with other breeds and an Airedale with a Schnauzer. Got my hand bitten in one of the GSD fights. I had so much adrenaline flowing that I don’t remember how I managed to pull them off each other in each altercation. This is a good video instruction if you can keep your head.
Very wise! Thank you kindly for this realistic information. This technique that you described could have saved a little white dog named Mindi in our neighborhood last year. Thank you for your Channel 🤠
Amazing stuff, many dog owners don't know it and if your dog jumps on their dog, the owner would attack the other owner because of the action of dog 😂 Thanks for amazing video and all the value you put out there
This video is so helpful. My girl has a best friend at the dog park she loves playing with, but she's a jerk and will frequently bite on and then not let go, even after he starts whining. So far it's always been ok, her buddy is also a jerk who can't take what he dishes out and his owner has never once felt nervous about their playing. But I'm always on edge for the day she takes it too far. The method of breaking things up I was taught, pulling on the tail, doesn't do anything to dissuade her. Lightly choking definitely will
Nicely done bro. Best (& most realistic) explanation I have ever seen on breaking up a dogfight. Just hope that I NEVER have to implement it IRL. My fur baby (2yo Cavoodle/Cavapoo) means absolutely everything to me & I'd do ANYTHING to keep him safe, even putting my own life at risk if needs be. Do you also have any advice on what to do if you're faced with MULTIPLE aggressive dogs, esp. if THEY (plural) latch on to your dog? I've recently seen some horribly unsettling attacks online where 2 or more dogs have latched onto 1 poor sweet innocent thing. There's absolutely NO way that I could just simply stand by on the sidelines & do nothing, irrespective of the risk/chances of success, if it were my dog. I honestly wouldn't be able to live with myself, just standing there passively. I recognise that it's ALMOST an impossible situation, but what would be the best thing to do in these circumstances, particularly if you're alone?
@@ProDogTraining Thanks, but how about MULTIPLE dogs tho? I DO recognise that it's ALMOST an impossible situation, other than fleeing to safety with your doggo, say to an elevated position or behind a barrier of some kind, if you can! But what if you can't? It would be a horrible situation to be in, esp. if you're alone. Any other less obvious recommendations? Or are you just kinda limited to doing the best you can & relying on instinct & common sense at this point?
Thankfully a stranger saved my border collie from death! A huge pit mix had her by the neck and I couldn't get to her. He ran over and grabbed the pits back legs long enough for the owner to take control and my dog to escape. She staggered for days.
I have used this method as recently as a couple days ago my dogs were fighting and the one who was latched on I got behind her and slightly choked her and she let go in a matter of seconds and the fight ended and then I took them both outside together and they played just like nothing happened you always have to get them back together because keeping them separated only increases chances dogs have very short memories the choking method seems terrible but it works every time
I have had a number of dogs. The problem I have had is with the owners even if my dog is on a lead and their dog is off lead ( jumped my dog from behind). The owners become upset in some case become tangled in my lead. They always blame my dog, even if he on lead and they are sitting on a bench 50 m away? I have not seen any injuries except for scratches, it is mostly noise and show!. But be very careful holding the collar , the dog can flip and almost break your wrist ( use two hands) and I have been bitten by the other dog ( I wasn't injured but it ... hurtsss)
That is the solution we found for our large dog and our smaller one if they somehow find a way to get close to each other, we keep them apart all times leaving one in house during the night so the big one can roam the property while during the day the smaller one is free and the big one is on the upper area of the property bared by a medium size gate my father made him self. The big dog has a chain collar around her neck at all times if a fight brecks off, usually either me, my brother or my dad grips on to the chain collar while someone else will grab a hold of the smaller dog and take them away from each other, usually chaining both of them so they can cool off the adrenaline before we return our usual cyclical routine. This was the best solution we could find as the two dogs simply could not get along no matter what we did. Our other dog is fine with either of them.
The most dangerous part of a dogfight is the owner of the aggressor dog. If you start choking their dog like shown here you're likely to have an angry human AND an angry dog attacking you. And I assure you that the angry human is a far greater threat and liability.
Dogs are scary I've had to break up a lot of dogfights cuz my parents are bad pet owner and if there's a fight with no one around four or five of the German shepherds always jump to losing dog and when there are people around the dogs just stand around watching the fight like it's entertaining to them I love dogs but they scare me.
More reason for you to love them. If you can harness the power and loyalty of a dog, and they’re your buddy, it’s life changing. I totally understand your fear though, as my sister used to be terrified of dogs. Now she has two!
I recently saw a video from the UK where two bullies attacked a man and there were a few people around who just kept running around in panic doing not much to help the man , save 9ne person with a stick who kept hitting the back of one dog though not too hard . Eventually the man was taken to a hospital and as was quite evident from the copious loss of blood seen in the video , didn't manage to make it . He died and i blame the cowardice of the people around for his death .
Unless u r strong especially w your grip and your upper body, u may struggle keeping control. U should practice some of this at play time to get used to it
Thats how i do it. only had one fight, where we had to open the mouth, because he didnt let the other one go. Allways keep your coolnes, otherwise you fule the situation! when you work with dogs, who never learnt social behavior it can happens some times! for me it was allways my mistake, because i evaluatet something wrong! So if you have an aggresiv dog, learn how its triggert(what causes it)... and learn how to change him! This video hear, is that you know how its done, when you already mate some mistake... and mistakes can allways happen..... (sry for the english, i am not a nativ speeker)
Great advice if the dogs a teddy or a brain dead what if it's 2 german shepards ? And a dog like your description i know it's not playing out like you in that video
@@StewartMcdonald-e4c let's assume that taking pressure off the bite and twisting the collar/using a leash to apply pressure around the neck isn't an option. What's your approach? Is that scariest scenario for you? Two GSD's.
Be aware of the local laws governing animals. In VA, you are responsible for any damage your animal does. So a horse that smashes or bites, you can be sued for..... Got it?
You don't talk about when both dogs are fighting they're in the air on their back legs and they're both grabbing throats and you're not talking about the other dog redirecting once that a big dog stops
There's about 20 scenarios in a dog fight, I've addressed 1. So yes the 19 others are not addressed. I do discuss redirecting. Please watch the video again.
This is bad advice and takes too long. See my comment below! Chocking, hitting the dog is not necessary. Most bite are superficial as long as the fight doesn’t go long. Leverage is your friend! Grab both dogs( one for each owner) as when you detach the bitee it may bite you and pry off the biter with a stick made of hardwood. A six inch piece of axe handle sanded down to a blunt tip works quite well. Carry it in you back pocket when you walk your dog or, especially, when at a dog park. 9 times of 10 it is an off leash dog that aggressively approaches you/your dog. Wait till the owner/ or bystander responds can collar their dog till you try and separate. If your by yourself its more tricky but usually the bitee when freed will retreat.
U have to get into the middle agressively or stay away. Just loke a himan foght, half action woll get u hurt or killed. Hard and fast with agression as ut life depends on it. Bc it does
No way is it a good idea to put your hands that close to the mouth, and, even using your legs for stability, with a big dog you can get pulled down into the fray. I have a 70 lb boxer chow who has many times attacked my other dog and various other dogs that are smaller, older and otherwise easy to dominate. The best thing is if the dog is on a leash, and you can get control with that, but if not, from my experience, the hind legs is the way to go. Three people ( I, my son, and a caregiver) have all had the thumb/hand bitten by grabbing the collar--even though the dog is not going after the human; the hand gets in the way. Once, grabbing the harness she had on, I got pulled down and my leg was between her and the other dog and she bit my leg. That time, I didn't do the hind legs, but should have gone for the hind legs. On three other occasions I have, and it works. Grab at the hip area not back at the paws.
If your dog has attacked numerous times, then maybe you shouldn’t be giving advice. Listen to the trainer. A dog bite in the hand is not the end of the world, hind legs can break, and if you are one person, and both dogs are fighting, your head goes down when you lift the legs and can get bit then too. There’s always a risk. Stay calm and be brave and prepared.
Sounds like dogs are a life altering accident waiting to happen for you. Move away from having a dog before it costs you or someone else. I like dogs too, but come on…
Great advice clearly presented
Glad it was helpful!
