    Silly to hear the commentator talk of "religious bigotry" when here and now in 2021 no Catholic can be British prime minister or head of the British state. Britain has never had a Catholic prime minister, Tony Blair had to leave office before converting and the present PM was born Catholic but changed to Anglican otherwise he would not have got the PM job.

      You have no idea of the trouble England has had with religion over the past 500 years. We have been through this Protestant/Catholic bitterness ourselves and it caused civil wars that took generations to heal. As a Catholic PM you cannot advise an Anglican Queen on which Archbishops to appoint etc. Will still remember the 5th of November.

    Imagine the loyalist community not trusting the nationalist community , the very same nationalists who see the republic as there spiritual home , a nation who actively aided hitlers national socialist party in ww2 , the irish leader de Valera even sending his nations condolences to the German high command on hitlers death , the vast majority of protestants were forced to flee the catholic republic due to religious intolerance, and hatred , ??????? 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇯🇪

    • @johnsometimeswrong8742
      @johnsometimeswrong8742 25 дней назад

      The only thing you said that was factual was that De Valers did send condolences to the German consulate as a matter of protocol for a neutral county.
      As our P.M.would do for Russia if Putin died tomorrow.
      There were not mass expulsions of protestants from the republic after 1923 there were incidents of score settling or intimidation which undoubtedly did occour but was it widespread no,I grew up with dozens of Church of Ireland neighbours a great many prosperous land owners in the south there are even estates here still owned by members of the English aristocracy.
      It is inncorrect to say that the republic aided Germany in WW2. In fact the opposite is true German airmen and sailors who were downed in Irish territory were interend until wars end where as British personel were usually repatriated quickly...also Ireland officially allowed allied planes to overfly our Airspace and dotted the west coast with markers to aid navigation.
      The tiny post treaty I.R.A. did try to collude with Germany for arms and support representing a couple of hundred men as oppossed to the 50,000 men from the republic who volenteered to fight for the allies most with Britain.
      The two communities on this Island have far more in common than divides us.
