I met you on the Edmonds pier on Saturday. Thank you for your kind advice at that time and for sharing this video! I’ll keep practicing. And your friend was very nice to share some squid with us too.
Excellent video for beginners! Hoping you could answer some of my questions. 1 - What size lure to use when the sea is rough? I saw some people using 1 oz jigs (1x or 2x). Is that necessary? 2 - Is it better to use fly rod or spinning rod? 3 - Which spinning reels to use? I like lightweight reels which are 8oz or less for less stress on arms. 4 - Which type of line to use? Is 20lb braid yellow color ok? 5 - Is it better to fish only in dark & with big lights?
1. Even for very rough wave, 1/4 top + 2/3 bottom should be enough; 2. They both work, I prefer fly rod; 3. Any 2000 to 3000 spinning reel 4. I am using 8 lbs test line, mono. 5. Squid like light, that's why you see a lot of lights at the pier. But sometimes you can get them during daytime, I got a lot of them around Christmas during daytime at Seattle pier 69
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot! Regarding the feeling of squid attacking, what you explained is exactly what I felt. I used other people's fly rod with a spinning reel, like your setup. But I didn't see any modification like tape. I don't know much about fish gears. Not sure how it is made.
In some websites they recommend 20lb braid, preferably high vis colors like orange and yellow for night fishing. I noticed that my mono line has coils which causes too much slack in the line. So, the jig does not sink easily and I cannot feel the squid bites because of the slack. I'll try 10lb braid instead of 20lb. I am also looking for light reel (8oz or less) in 2000, 2500, 3000 size. You need to jig a lot in squid fishing. So, your shoulder and hands will hurt if your rod and reel are too heavy and unbalanced.
@@BashiWAFishing - thanks. I did not think about that. I notice many people using very straight line, yellow color and very thick (2-3 mm or so). Is that fly line?
Now that the season is coming to a close (it is mid Jan.), hav u noticed squidding gear (especially expensive Japanese edging rods) drop in price? Thank you Sir
Great video but you would be much easier to understand without the echo in the room. I had to back the video up several times to catch what you were saying. Your English is good…it was the echo in the room that made it hard. Sub’d!!

It might be a every small reel, or you friend might changed some part on the fly rod.
Bashi Sports Xu I bought a fly rod and a 1000 reel separately. Luckily the reel fits the rod, though it doesn’t fit perfectly. You are right.
Very helpful 👌🏼
Thanks for the support!
Very informative 👏 😊
Glad it was helpful!

@@DavidS-vi2xn I would like less than 10 lbs for the main line, if you get tangled with others, braid line is a nightmare.

@@DavidS-vi2xn I believe you are talking about the 15 lbs mono line, I used that line for shad fishing; For squid, I suggest less than 10 lbs mono

Not really, good rods hold their vaule quite well.
Love it
Does the rod have to be fast action? One experienced guy on the pier where I went the other night recommended a fast action, 8-ft rod.
BTW, I couldn't find the crappie hunters, 10 ft rod you recommended on amazon.com
The rod need to be very light and sensitive
@@QinglingLu0402 I just seared again on amazon, seems it's not there any more
Bashi Sports Xu thanks!😀

Yes, it won't work in puget sound
