Birth - The midwives’ fight for life in Africa

Every year in Sub-Saharan Africa, almost 200,000 women die during pregnancy or childbirth. Midwives are a solution to this tragedy. This is why AMREF launched the Stand Up for African Mothers campaign, with the aim to train 15,000 midwives in Africa.
In this 26-minute film, we take you to Senegal where you will meet four women engaged in this fight for life: Florence (a midwife trained by AMREF), Oulimata (a young student midwife), Khady (a pregnant woman) and Laura (a French fencing champion and ambassador of AMREF’s Stand Up for African Mothers campaign).

midwife damn she dropped that babys head down with no support and his body at 18.40 also as a midwife i want give respects to these woman and as a midwife how they did things there may not be what i learnt but the babies and mothers are alot safer now with the amref and training midwifes

I know they are trying their best bit oh deist !!!! Delivering a baby with the woman lying flat on her back is awful , the beds are too narrow , no sheets and why are they so rough with the babies ?the way that poor little onne was dragged out and was hanging there was awful ! There was no gentleness at all . I am a midwife in Enkalannd andI found this really

keep in mind a lot of these midwives don’t have training that’s up to western standards. they’re doing the best with what they have and what they’ve learned.

They're not supposed to pull the baby out by the head like that 🤦 That's how that baby in Atlanta head came off during the C-section delivery because the doctor pulled the baby out by the head🤦
