- I have many people over time asking what my preferred retro gaming frontend/launcher is, from Retrobat, Batocera, Launchbox etc. As you will know I cover many different frontend and launcher setup guides on my channel. This video will show you which I prefer and why I prefer as well as advantages over various other frontends that I have covered.

I've found out that you have posted most of these videos previously but you keep your subscribers posted. I really appreciate that and all of your hard work 😎👍🏾. Thanks Jamie
Hey, no worries. I am always getting new subs in and many videos of the past are being missed.
I gotta admit it. U put Kofi and launchbox bigbox together, you'll turn a pc into a full fledged game console. Honest to God truth
Absolutely.
Ay, I've used everything. When my launchbox messed up, I literally tried everything. I cab truly say that launchbox is the best game launcher and it's fully customizable as to how u want your system. U feel me?
@TrexCharlieX 100%
Batocera , Retrobat and Playnite have been my main FE's this year will invest time in Launcbox, Emulation station and Emudeck for 2024 and screw the RB devs learned more from you than their forums have a great new year.
Iv got botocera retrobat and most recent launch box love them all
Launch Box certainly looks like a great front end, It's nice because you get all those Bells and whistles, I think it is expected that if you're paying for something of course You expect a quality product which is better than a free version, Really like the premium look of it And I think it's great there's so many options out there for people to choose from, Hope you had a very merry Christmas Jamie
Hey. Cheers Marc. Retro Gaming Emulation has certainly come along way in the past 10 years for the best. Merry Christmas.
I think it depends on which OS you are using. I'd agree with Launchbox on Windows. For Linux/ handheld then EmulationStation or Batocera is best. Android is lacking and I wouldn't recommend Launchbox on there as its not as mature as the Windows version. However, EmulationStation is about to get a port to Android soon! Watch this space!
I'm trying to like Launchbox but only acquires half of my games meta data. I have complete collections of almost every system up to Ps2 so its missing a lot of data. It looks extremely ugly with gray blocks peppered all over the place. ArkOS & AmberElec scraped %95 of the data first try on my handhelds. Now searching for a better alternative.
does it have the ability to filter between single player and multiplayer games? And does it have favorites? Also are you able to navigate the menus with a gamepad?
Yes to all.
I’m trying to build my first emulator PC and the unknown for me is that I want to have my games sorted by custom Genre. Like I want a list of shooters for my light guns, a list of beat em ups, 4 player game list, etc. Reviews have not covered how to do anything but list games by system, but honestly a lot of time the system isn’t the important thing for me. Any frontend recommendations with my use case in mind?
Genre list wise. Most if not all have options to filter your games by different genres.
Can you do more setup guides with Launchbox. Big Box is a Joy to use with the new GPD Win Mini Console. I like using Retrobat as well is there a way to share Roms between the 2 Frontends if I can't decide on one or the other
Hey there. I have a playlist. I will be uploading much more LB in the New Year.
I'll check it out, currently i'm having issues setting up capcom play systems 1-3@@JustJamie1983
Used to recommend retrobat to friends and acquaintances. After hearing how nasty and rude they are ill definitely not recommend them anymore. Used to use them before but launchbox is just on a whole another level!
Hey. That's just me. They might not to that to others 😀
Y'all, don't sleep on my boy Jamie, he is the best I've found on emulation. Keep up the great work my friend 😎👍🏾
Hey, cheers, lovely to hear such good feedback 😀
Woaw!!! Your Right You Get What You Pay For!! Looks Amazing
Exactly. Truly reccomend Launchbox for those who don't mind paying.
For big box, do you have to use the scroll pad on on mini keyboard, or can you use bluetooth controller to navigate?
Controller works perfectly.
@@JustJamie1983 sweeeeet. Thanks for the reply man 👍🤘
@jasonberkers2142 my pleasure
Question since you mention you use a oled. Will using the bezels cause burn in?
I’ve been worried to turn them on
Not that I am aware of. Interesting question though.
On older models, yes. I got burn-in on my 2015-2016 LG OLED. I now have a 2023 model and I believe the issue is fixed, but I had a Sky News, CBeebies and Galaga bezel clearly visible when there was a lot of red or green on the screen!
I'm a long time Bigbox/Launchbox user with the paid version and I absolutely love it, however, ever since buying a onexplayer 2 a year ago I can't stand how slow bigbox is on the APU....So I've transitioned to Retrobat and its decent enough. Love the fact they pre configured escape hotkeys. Huge plus over BigBox...side note, I really liked Daijisho for Android because its snappy and quick for a front end
Yup. I understand.
Emudeck has recently become available on Windows. But Launchbox is pretty good if you're willing to spend money on it. Too bad it isn't available on Linux as of now, which is a shame.
Yup. Emu Deck for Windows latest here:

Hi great vid, thank you! Just wanted to ask if you know were should i install the OS in a 256gb SSD or 1TB HDD? Can i have the OS on the SSD and the roms on the HDD?
Hey. For which frontend?
Not sure yet to use batocera, or retrobat, or another, but building the rig and trying to see if it makes sense to have a smaller SDD for OS and then have the roms and everything else on a bigger HDD@@JustJamie1983
@jorgeripoli4662 which OS? The only OS here is Batocera.
Well, batocera then@@JustJamie1983
You should try HyperspaceMadness Mega Bezels shaders for Retroarch.
Thanks for letting us know.
You could have updated the media for the title in the original menu you accessed. No need to update the whole batch just for one game.
Yup. Mistake on my behalf.
OK didn't know bigbox was a console type. I thought it was just the PC program style. Retrobat and screen scrapper taking me close to a week to scrap all the data for my games. Ridiculous. Ultimately its the skin or theme I want, not necessarily the app. Retrobat works fine. Would love to use some of the coinops Hyperspin themes for Retrobat. Pity.
well thats one opinion, if video was about all 1st screen FE logos... i really prefer for now RetroFE, the big issue is that dev abandoned it :(
Aye. Not a bad system. I did a full setup guide for RetroFE right here:

Can you use launch box as a OS?
Not strictly. But you can boot up directly into Launchbox.
I totaly agree. I've been messing around with Batocera/Retrobat and there's something missing. Animations are smooth but EmulationStation can't be configured like Launch Box. Now on my Legion Go I'm using only Launch Box and it's an awesome frontend. I highly recommend it to all Windows based handheld users.
I've been using Launchbox for a few years now and I agree that it is the best, as long as you are running Windows. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of what Launchbox can do. I tried Retrobat and what I find most annoying is that I cannot have two separate folders for systems like NES and Famicom or SNES and Super Famicom or TurboGraphx 16 and PC Engine. Launchbox is awesome for MAME and MAME-like arcade ROM sets. Retrobat, Emulation Station, etc. doesn't even come close.
Do you need a fast computer? I have a crappy noob computer.
It depends what you want to play.
@@JustJamie1983 Well.. PSX games would be cool, i'm a 16/32 bit guy...
@grumsproduktion4083 a fairly modest cheap computer could likely run the majority of 8-32 bit.
Me and me girlfriend are starting to get deep into retro gaming, but i'm not a rich guy, i tried the M8 retro stick but that one sucked, have a super console x pro coming soon
@@JustJamie1983 Thank you,. maybe i'll get one :)
Retroarch is trash on anything Nvidia pc and laptops
genesis nes snes all run at 40 FPS for some reason.
Depends on which core you use.
Just do some tinkering, I have a computer that's about 13 years old runs fine full speed nes sega supernintrndo
