My favorites have to be the toy soldier and the beautiful history filled trade bead...congrats on those finds. That deep purple glass will make some gorgeous beads, I can't wait to see y'all make more of them. Will y'all be going back to the "Field of Dreams" soon? When Alex pulled that bead out of the water I was so excited for a trade bead! To know about them is very cool, but to have an example to compare to in a museum is amazing, I have my own stash of trade beads from my family and others here in California, I look through them occasionally like a bead troll......

    • @NorthernMudlarks
      @NorthernMudlarks  3 года назад +6

Yes, we do think about our safety. Since we are usually searching in isolated areas, we are constantly taking note of other people. In fact, during this lark a man turned up, he was clearly drinking and made us feel uncomfortable enough for us to decide to leave for somewhere elce. X

I really appreciate all the research that you both do and share about all your finds. It is fascinating to learn the history of these items, even if it is tragic or sad (ie. baby "medicine" bottle, slave beads). The nature clips and music choices you make are so beautiful. Getting to see what antics the shwews are up to is so much fun. Thank you soo much, again, for all your efforts as I look so forward to seeing a bit of your day in lovely Scotland.

So lovely to see you ladies back on the mudlarking trail again. The little treasures you found were all very interesting. I really enjoy seeing the pieces cleaned up and discussed at the end. But I do get quite fascinated trying to spot things before you show...lol.
I really enjoy the potted history of the most interesting things you find.
I've even been able to impress my hubby with facts I've learnt from you posts. Haha, I even sounded like I knew what I'm talking about. Which obvs I do. I've learnt from professionals. (Don't you know)
I really loved the little Tim soldier. What a find that was. How long I wonder has that little man been bobbing about. Keeping all his extremities safe, ready to shout out ....I'm here, save me!
    Right place, right time.
I also looooved those beautiful cog pieces. And the day wouldn't be complete without a pretty bottle, which was such an appealing colour.
At the end of the day though, that little tiny slave bead was so touching. What an amazing find that was.
If only these things could talk. What stories they could tell us.
Mmm maybe too sad to bare.
A time best left in the past. But never forgotten!
Good to see you back. Looking forward to next week's trip already. X

I could never leave that behind. That purple glass...00o0oo0o I hope you show some beads made from that. In Canada the Indigenous (aka First Nations) culture values historical trade beads and they are usually dark blue and very beautiful.

Alex dear your remark regarding a 'really juicy clay layer here' made me smile.
For most of us clay is synonymous with 'icky, sticky and mucky' which could be the title for a series of short books about three mudlarking ducks based upon your delightful expeditions.
Anatomically the back end of the animal figure you suggested might be a horse looked more like a deer to me.
This also caused me to wonder if it could belong with the fragment of antler you found and if they could therefore be pewter rather than lead?

Your little Asian vase piece is probably from Japan. There was a special Japanese exhibition in Knightsbridge at one point in the late 1800's that caused a huge rise in popularity for all things Japanese. Gilbert & Sullivan even wrote The Mikado after that exhibition which W.S. Gilbert had gone to. It might be a satsuma piece with the raised bits but the satsuma I have seen is usualll darker in color.

Hello lovely Ladies. I ran across your videos, for the first time, this evening here in Colorado, USA. I watched several in a row and found your videos and talk quite interesting and actually relaxing. I do hobby metal detecting, but I find your discoveries are more interesting. There is so much more depth of history in England and Scotland and therefore more artifacts and "bits" to find. Your descriptions and appreciation of your finds makes your videos engaging. I am really puzzled why you find so many beads on the shores. How in the world do so many get dropped in the sea? I guess I can understand broken clay pipes being discarded, but such variety of beads! And then you have good enough eyes to see them, ohmygosh! Fascinating, the variety of things you find and I doubt the US offers such variety of little treasures on our shores. Nice Mother/daughter team you have...very pleasant and refreshing. God Bless...Allen
