San Diego & Tijuana are borderland cities on the US Mexico border and this has resulted in a unique mixing of cultures which is unlike anywhere else in Mexico or the USA. After my time exploring both I realised how much unity there is between both cities and though the media always paints a negative picture there are a lot of beautiful things about living on the border too!

What a great video Malini! I am so impressed with your Español! Having first experienced when I was kid this contrast between these two worlds that are basically just separated by a simple physical barrier remains so unfathomable to me. It made a huge impact on my life and on how I view and understand our present and modern world. I would like to suggest the rest of Baja California (Rosarito, Ensenada) and South Orange County, CA for future content.

That Duality of seeing San Diego and Tijuana facing each other at night is immaculate 🌃🌆
Next I'd explore on Top of the PLATEAUS Behind downtown San Diego. Thats where all the neighborhoods, restaurants, and 'Density' are, Like North Park, City Heights, Kearny Mesa etc.
Breweries, and Breakfast diners are pretty Great in those neighborhoods too, and coffee is getting Huge in San Diego. Sometimes you'll catch glimpses of Tijuana from the Plateaus, and Nothing beats that duality of Being Elevated and seeing both cities facing each other...

I can't believe you visited my hometown Tijuana 😄it's not the most beautiful city in the world, and a lot of ugly things happen in random corners, but the food is amazing, people are warm and welcome everyone, we have crazy gorgeous sunsets, and it's a multicultural, interesting city with one of the most cross-borders in the world. Definitely, it is worth visiting as I'm pretty sure you haven't seen any city like Tijuana, a unique mix of things.

“Latin” descent?! ITALIANS are the Real Latin people! Native Americans are Not latin descent. The term Latino comes from ITALY/ Latin Europe. Italians are the only people in the world who have the surname origin Latino/Latini. There is nothing Latin about the Americas. Real Latin countries are located in Latin Europe and Real Latin blood sangue Latino comes from Italy.

Me being Mexican American, living in San Diego my entire life, and having to cross the border often, I definitely felt this video was true to what you were covering. Especially about the part of the couple. I currently live in San Diego and my boyfriend in Tijuana who can’t cross. We make it work and it’s been hard but where there is a will there is a way! Lol
One thing that disappoint me is the last seconds of your video. Tijuana IS NOT the capital of the state of Baja California Norte. That is actually Mexicali, which is about 1.5 hrs east of Tijuana.

Hello, I have seen so many of your videos and I would never imagine that you or anyone would make a video of the SD/TJ area. My father’s family have been living i. SD for decades and love SD, I was the one of the last ones to have born in TJ and going back and foward have never feel weird. I used to hang out with my grandma in SD and I live the two cities. My favorite beach In the world is In KM 58 south of Rosarito. We are really interconnected and each side have it got d and bad things. The main thing is to treat each one with respect. When Mexicans move to USA we doit to have a better life through work. We are not looking for freebies like a lot of Americans think. Is hard to leave behind out way of living, our friends, our lenguaje but we lear to love and be grateful. I earn my USA citizenship and I want the best for the USA. I love the many beautiful thing like the parks and I have a lost of American friends
That are open to appreciate the Mexicans immigrant that are there. Agriculture is most of the jobs that Latin people work at without any guarantees and trust me they get pay their taxes. Work under bad conditions, low wages and they are living bidding on the little free time and they deserve recognition for feeding America. They might have crossed illegally but they pay a very high price for it. The American history do not include the big contributions of the Mexican and Latin contribution In the growth of this multicultural country. Your documentary did recognized this and I appreciate that you did it for the wordy audience that will see this video. 👏🌸

First time seeing the channel, pretty good, unfortunately If you would have gone to Imperial Beach which is closer to Tijuana you would have not seen any surfers in the water due to contamination from the Tijuana River valley, it’s been an on going issue. Also the state Capitol of Baja California is Mexicali, I think you would find it an interesting city due to it’s high population of Chinese Mexicans. These were Chinese that was kicked out of the US after completing the railroads. Also Rutas de Vino is actually closer to Ensenada which is another city in the Valle de Guadalupe.

This is a beautiful documentary that showcases the unique culture of the San Diego-Tijuana borderlands. It's amazing to see how these two cities, with their own distinct identities, share so much history and tradition. The food, the music, the art - it's all a beautiful blend of Mexican and American influences. My favorite part of the documentary was learning about the Chicana/o experience. The idea that "being Chicana/o" is both a cultural identity and a political movement is truly inspiring.

Mexicans are native to this continent and my own mother's DNA proved that with strong traces in Mexico's Northwest and the US Southwest. It's odd that we get grouped as immigrants on a continent that were native too, more native than any other race sans indiginous, with the majority of us being mestizo.

@@maliniangelica1 thank you so much for your response. Hopefully, in a few years some of the fear will be gone and the areas cleaned up to big tourism again. My tastebuds were going crazy when you show the true authentic Mexican or Cali-Mex food in that restaurant. We live in West Texas and it's hard to find true Mexican food further north. We do have Tex-Mex, but being here our entire lives, we know where to find authentic! Stay safe!

Its actually one metropolitan area that has temporarily been divided. For thousands of years people have lived in this area without barriers. With time the barrier will disappear just like it did in Berlin

No it won’t. The Berlin Wall was put up to divide a city. The border is to separate 2 completely different countries

This is amazing! Now venturing into a bit of Geo-Politics and Journalism, beyond Food and Travel. Please add the Baltics to your list they are a heaven for the restaurant and baking scene, comparable to the Nordics, with a sense of national renewal following accession to the EU.

When I was a young body surfer in San Diego in the 60's, we would sneak across the border there and visit the bull fighting ring and small Mexican communty there where expats lives...no wall....no police....
