  • Taking trains in India? Watch our first time on an Indian Train called to the Duronto Express, where a man filmed me in the bathroom...
Wondering if India is safe for women? Click here to learn more: www.chaseforadventure.com/is-...
This was our first time on an Indian train and we took the Duronto Express from Sealdah Railway Station...what a night...Taking the Duronto Express at Sealdah Railway Station from Kolkata to New Delhi was an experience! the Duronto Express Overnight train was the first train we have ever taken in India and we could not have been more confused! After showing up to Sealdah Railway Station at night and being overwhelmed, we made our way through the insanely busy railway station to what we would call home for the next 13 hours. Little did we know, by taking the Duronto Express from Kolkata to New Delhi, we would have found one of our favorite methods of getting around India.
As always thank you so much for watching!

1:53 I do feel your pain. Each of the coaches is almost 80 feet long and you had to walk literally the whole length of the train, around 18 coaches. Trains in India are really long. In fact, before the LED displays for coach positions were put on platforms, it was even more of a challenge, as we had to keep guessing the coach position till the train pulls in.
Also, the reason you had to speak up at the coach was the End on Generator (EOG) coach behind you. That coach has a diesel generator to generate the power for the Air conditioning and lighting for the entire train. The downside is that it is incredibly loud. I think you could hear that drone even in the cabin as well.
4:10 That is another reason why the AC 2 tier coach or above is preferable. The height of coaches is restricted to about 14 feet from rail level, and a triple bunk in that height means that there isn't enough headspace. I don't know how tall you guys were, but I am short myself and I still felt awkward being hunched into that space.
10:25 Also, the ticket examiner usually checks for ID if he feels suspicious, otherwise usually he doesn't do that much strictly (can't blame him much, he has to manage almost half a dozen coaches and keep track at every station). Although there are some (especially in South India) who are really strict about tickets and the associated IDs. Bottom Line: Just carry the ID proof anywhere while you travel and save yourself a whole lot of bother.
11:25 It is really challenging. I just remember the number of times I ended up dropping my phone from the upper berth (90% of the time). Luckily, it was an old timey Motorola phone, so it was indestructible, and I was saved. But it really is challenging.
Love your vlogs by the way, they are amazing. I hope you come back to India and probably come down south as well, there are a lot of things to do here as well

An Indian here from Lincoln, Nebraska. Just remembering my days back in India where I want to go back to when I get some time off; indian trains are the lifeline of India; I guess most Asian countries rely on trains. As far as South Asia is concerned, India is most advanced in rail transport, although we are nowhere near China, nor will we be in the near future. But amid all the corruption, chaos and non-cooperation from the western world, India is truly trying hard, and I as an Indian am proud of my country. Situated to the east of a very hostile neighbor which is getting funded by world powers to counter India, we as Indians must be very resilient and careful in dealing with world affairs and should try to protect ourselves as much as possible. Long live India!!

These are usually old/less powerful engines used to move coaches from one line to another. These are not used for going to locations. For a passenger train you will get to see WDP/ WAP/ WDM (i.e. wide gauge diesel passenger / ac electric passenger/ diesel multipurpose ) series locomotives.

      WAP 5 - 6000 HP locomotives
      WAP 7 - 6120 HP loco
      WAG 9 - 6125 HP loco
      WAG 9HH - 9000 HP loco
Every loco has its own painting scheme by which it is identified easily. And next time you shall see 2 kinds of coaches: older ICF coaches in deep blue and sky blue or red and maroon livery and LHB coaches with silver red and silver blue livery.

I am an anglo-indian. To put it very bluntly we are the offspring of British and Indian couples and we have built a very strong and popular legacy here in India. While most of us have moved on to the US, UK, Australia etc, our presence still lingers on here in all corners of India. We have solid Christian names and are staunch Roman Catholics. Infact some of us look exactly like our forefathers even today. Bow-Barracks, Picnic Gardens, Ripon Street etc in Kolkata is where a majority of our community still exists (whats left of us), although traces of us are still scattered all over the country. You should research us and you will be pleasantly surprised by how close on your heels we are - being born and brought up in India.

12:08 The locomotive that you were disappointed to see is not the actual locomotive that took you to your destination. That was an old fashioned low horsepower diesel locomotive which is restricted to just shunting activities within a railway station. It's job is just to bring your train coaches into the platform while the actual locomotive, an electric one, attaches itself a few moments before the train's scheduled departure time.
