My grandparents had a truck like this and it was a 1993 extended cab with a 3.9L V6 and we used to drive it to Indianapolis for yardsales when I was 7 years old.
I had a 96 extra cab I ordered from the factory. Loved that truck. SLT, 4x4, manual transmission, had the 318 but mine was fuel injected unlike this truck that is carbureted. Came with an 8 speaker infinity sound system. Was an awesome truck!
@TheKoreanX ok, that's the air cleaner. the earlier version of fuel injection was known as TBI throttle body injection. I guess it does resemble a carbureted engine upon first seeing it. This truck has TBI, later models got multi port injection
i used to have a truck just like that except mine was a 95 and it was 4 wheel drive. mine had same interior package and color, and outside was the same color too. it was the best truck i ever owned and it had 214k when i got rid of it. even the a/c still worked. wish i'd have kept it
@barnie7219 Your right. Most people when they see a air filter like that, they automatically asume it's a carberator when in fact they were a air filter.
@fanowner12 actually the factory stereo on a 98 ram is compatable with those dakotas. that's what i put in my 95 and it sounded awesome. i also liked how back then dodge put the rear speakers lower down instead of right next to your ear like chevy did
@RFFan97 the buzzer is annoying when I restored mine I removed it from the fuse block under the dash, its easy to do. on the newer ones they bury it in the dash.
i agree. i have an 01 dodge ram 1500 but it doesnt have the buzzer it has a chime thing thats much less annoying. dodge got rid of the buzzer and replaced it with the chime in 1998.
BTW, speaking of Dakotas, my dad was going to buy a '93 Dakota just like this one (except with the 3.9), but he decided on a '93 Jeep Cherokee Country 4DR with the 4.0L High-Output I6 and Automatic 4X4 in Black/Silver Metallic instead.
@TheKoreanX just curious, what makes you think this truck is carbureted, because it has fuel injection just like pretty much every other vehicle since the late 80's
those mid 90s dakotas are good trucks...ive owned 3 and never had a major problem with any of them...the factory timing chains do stretch early and need to replaced but a good aftermarket kit takes care of that.
Just Some Loli With a Mustache the 97 and up Dakota was the same underneath as the 92-96 but the body was changed (the body was much heavier on the 97 and up).
haha my first car was a 95 dodge dakota with the same color combo as that one. o good times crawling through the rear window cause the side doors wouldnt open. or driving in snow after removing the sand bags from the back cause it was april and we didnt think it would snow any more :P
@datboiwes3 comes ith a 4.7 liter v8 tho. They discontinued the 5.2 and 5.9 engines after 2003. didn't like em much anyway, people liked them for the simple fact that they were BIG. Size plays half the role in the performance department if you know what i mean.
The 1989 Dodge Dakota Sport and the 1996 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab I used to have had the same dashboards. Only difference was the speedometer in the 1989 had a box around the 55 MPH and the 1996 didn't as after 1993 the 55 MPH National Speed Limit Mandate by Congress was lifted.
The warning buzzer and warning lamp illumination at start up is a system warning function test. It has been around since the mid to late 60's when vehicle manufacturers were equipping vehicles with warning lights and a buzzer to alert drivers to a malfunction with critical vehicle functions like oil pressure being too low, engine temperature too high, battery voltage/amperage too low, low fuel, low washer fluid and seatbelt use reminder.
I really don't understand why some manufacturers found it so necessary to destroy your eardrums with an obnoxious warning buzzer whenever the key was in the ignition and the door was open. Honestly. I can see why they'd do that for many a seat belt warning, but really?
@ElectroGhandi You'd be surprised, manufactuers thought it'd be too expensive to find a company to manufacture a chime box. If it bothers someone they could rip it right out (:
Like these 1st generation truck like that for Dodge Dakota 1987-1996 old school model year. This 1st grille was 1987-1990 model year. When late 1990 hit they made a another grille which is the 2nd one for first generation for 1991-1996 model year. Well 1994 saw few minor changes when they still had the old Dodge D Series which the last of this truck when Dodge D Series was discontinued after the 1994 model year, they brought Dodge Ram airbags for 1994-1996 model years. 1996 will be the last year of this first generation Dodge Dakota because the engine was out of production and has been considered as vastly underpowered compared to competion. So Dodge replaced the engine. And 1996 has gotten too old for the truck and Dodge Dakota Convertible was discontinued after the 1996 model year so the will bring a brand new larger truck for next generation for the 1997 model year. 1997-2011 Dodge Dakotas are faster than 1996 and older models. Buzzing sounds by starting up this Dodge Dakota Truck for 1987-1996 model year, while Dodge Ram is 1948-1997 model year.
@talldude123 neither have i. Thats why the power/weight ratio wasn't right. The back half of the truck would lose traction very easiley. I know pickups lose traction faster than lets say suvs because all the weight was in the front. But that damn dodge has a 5.2 liter in it. That is too much for that 3900 lb truck.
my dad had the sport but its a 95 his got smashed the whole chasie got shifted 3 in and it got fixed then it died then that was the end rip dodge dakoda 95-99
Sweet looking Dakota. This is my idea of what a truck should be, attractive, yet utilitarian, comfortable, and yet durable.
Gorgeous truck! So reliable
Awesomebro6 it's probably one of my favorite tricks ever made. Top 7 lol
I LOVE the older Dakotas! Great video as always and thanks for sharing!
My grandparents had a truck like this and it was a 1993 extended cab with a 3.9L V6 and we used to drive it to Indianapolis for yardsales when I was 7 years old.
My dad used to have one of these. I loved it because it looked pretty sick, blue and silver with a red pin stripe.
I had a 96 extra cab I ordered from the factory. Loved that truck. SLT, 4x4, manual transmission, had the 318 but mine was fuel injected unlike this truck that is carbureted. Came with an 8 speaker infinity sound system. Was an awesome truck!
this is fuel injected
This is a 5.2 Magnum, which designates the fact that it has Electronic Port Fuel Injection
I love the sound of Dodge V8 Start Ups
I can smell this truck
Call me at 8438770031 robert
This is my favorite Gen of Dakota, especially in extended cab SLT V8 trim like this one...awesome truck.
@TheKoreanX ok, that's the air cleaner. the earlier version of fuel injection was known as TBI throttle body injection. I guess it does resemble a carbureted engine upon first seeing it. This truck has TBI, later models got multi port injection
Omg I would have bought that truck in a heartbeat. Awesome shape for its age!
My thoughts as well very nice and those ones are reliable
Sweet looking truck. I've always loved this generation Dodge Dakota. I'd buy one if I were in the market for one. :)
Very strong and reliable truck I hope to get one as my first car
i used to have a truck just like that except mine was a 95 and it was 4 wheel drive. mine had same interior package and color, and outside was the same color too. it was the best truck i ever owned and it had 214k when i got rid of it. even the a/c still worked. wish i'd have kept it
glad i found this video i always thought my blinker wiring system was messed up but glad to see its just part of the truck turning indication
the 1991-1996 Dodge Dakota was assembled in
Warren, Michigan, United States
I love the sound of old power windows! Reminds me of my mom's old minivan.
i had one EXACTLY like this until it got totalled...it was very dependable
IM buying this truck this weekend.
I'm getting one next week. It's only a V6 and the frame is rusted out, but hey, it's a free truck!
Simplex SM i got my 1995, it’s only rusty at the top of the cab but all though she runs pretty smooth
@@anthonyproctor9105 I got mine for free straight body and no rust, just need a fix in the engine area
That's the exact same truck I have...they're beasts
That is a sweet little truck
No way! I love these 1st gen Dakotas!
@barnie7219 Your right. Most people when they see a air filter like that, they automatically asume it's a carberator when in fact they were a air filter.
bit of a late responce. but i have a 94 dakota. how exactly do u rip the buzzer out?
that buzzer makes me want to die lol
Dnuccio95ZJ luckily they're easy to remove
i like the buzzer
Tessa Fultz Me too.
Nice man, I wanna one !!
Kyle the compartment you opened after the garage door opener was for sunglasses. My Cherokee has that same setup.
this truck is so gorgeous
@fanowner12 actually the factory stereo on a 98 ram is compatable with those dakotas. that's what i put in my 95 and it sounded awesome. i also liked how back then dodge put the rear speakers lower down instead of right next to your ear like chevy did
those are good oold little work trucks
@RFFan97 the buzzer is annoying when I restored mine I removed it from the fuse block under the dash, its easy to do. on the newer ones they bury it in the dash.
EUROEMOGUY1998 no need to rip it out of the newer ones, because the buzzer is not annoying
the transmission on the 1987-1996 Dodge Dakota
Transmission
3-speed automatic
4-speed automatic
5-speed manual
I like the brake light on the tailgate
i agree. i have an 01 dodge ram 1500 but it doesnt have the buzzer it has a chime thing thats much less annoying. dodge got rid of the buzzer and replaced it with the chime in 1998.
where do i find this truck to buy
BTW, speaking of Dakotas, my dad was going to buy a '93 Dakota just like this one (except with the 3.9), but he decided on a '93 Jeep Cherokee Country 4DR with the 4.0L High-Output I6 and Automatic 4X4 in Black/Silver Metallic instead.
gotta love the oldies lol
Im selling my 86 Firebird, and definitely will be looking for one of these!
EndIessIy since this is a five year old comment, did you end up getting one?
@@brandondannys-menary3678 9 years now, no news.
@@titus3264 lmao
Best model ever
Does no one else notice that the front lights look exactly like the 1996 ford f150.
Because Ford copied em
Not really. The Dakota got those lights in '91. The F-150 got the somewhat similar ones a year later. Takes more than a year to design a truck.
AJ JERO i often confuse them
AJ JERO they more or less look like the Ford Ranger to me
Thomas Montagno ford didn't copies dodge.Dodge copied Ford.I use to have a 1996 ford f150.
That's snap perfect timing 😁
Nice truck
@TheKoreanX just curious, what makes you think this truck is carbureted, because it has fuel injection just like pretty much every other vehicle since the late 80's
I remember my dad's 92 dakota had that buzzer lol I remember always being like shut the door dad lol
@2004NissanSentra Did the base models of the 1998 Dodge Ram Truck with roll-up windows and dual airbags use a scary buzzer or not?
Did the redesigned 1997 Dakota use the same buzzer this one used or a chime instead?
@saabkyle04 ,kyle maby you can a small test between chevy S 10 and the dokota
5.2 is the bulletproof 318, later dropped by the 4.7
That was a huge screw up for Dodge.
those mid 90s dakotas are good trucks...ive owned 3 and never had a major problem with any of them...the factory timing chains do stretch early and need to replaced but a good aftermarket kit takes care of that.
working shlub timing chains? Is it sohc? Or is the timing chain a double?
I had 2. Both 95 4x4 club cabs. One was the 5.2 v8 the other was a v6. There were great. Recommend the v8 over the v6 though.
Had the v6 sport and when il buy myself a house i tink im gonna go buy myself the v8 4x4
5:20 3 doors down ftw! :D
i like the model from around 1999, my father owned a 1999 dakota
Just Some Loli With a Mustache the 97 and up Dakota was the same underneath as the 92-96 but the body was changed (the body was much heavier on the 97 and up).
mine is the same color of green. do you know what shade they call it?
Do you still have it
I want one of these
worth it.
My first car was a '96 Dakota. I really wish I had kept that truck.
6:12 Song name?
@ConkerPucci13
Where would you find one online?
@TheKoreanX Thats a air filter. It looks like a carberator, but it's a air filter.
@barnie7219 you can't have carberation and fuel injecton at the same time, correct me if i'm wrong but thats what it looked like you were saying.
do a buick rendevous start up and tour
How much does it cost?
haha my first car was a 95 dodge dakota with the same color combo as that one. o good times crawling through the rear window cause the side doors wouldnt open. or driving in snow after removing the sand bags from the back cause it was april and we didnt think it would snow any more :P
The buzzer went off
didn't the Dodge brothers supplied parts to Ford , until they made enough money to start their own brand
@datboiwes3 comes ith a 4.7 liter v8 tho. They discontinued the 5.2 and 5.9 engines after 2003. didn't like em much anyway, people liked them for the simple fact that they were BIG. Size plays half the role in the performance department if you know what i mean.
i think these dakotas fit in the european market
compact not small have a V8 inside.
what happend to the dakota stil in production ?
That Dakota is barely broken in at 156k on the odometer...my 94 is running strong at 215k on the clock..
The whole truck is 1996 going on 1986, save for the airbag-equipped steering wheel.
[deleted] actually no. The Dakota was redesigned in 1992 to make room for the V8. Prior to 1992 the only way to get a V8 was with the Shelby Dakota.
They were good looking, nice riding/ handling smaller trucks. You had to really take care of them though or Dodge quality shined through.
1:09 Mercury Tracer Horn
That chime is music to my ears 🎶
Kaden that’s called a buzzer bzzzzzzzz
@Propel3453 haha why did u remove the comment?
What is up with that buzzer in a 1996 MY truck?
The warning buzzer and warning lamp illumination at start up is a system warning function test.
It has been around since the mid to late 60's when vehicle manufacturers were equipping vehicles with warning lights and a buzzer to alert drivers to a malfunction with critical vehicle functions like oil pressure being too low, engine temperature too high, battery voltage/amperage too low, low fuel, low washer fluid and seatbelt use reminder.
HOLY CRAP IS THAT DOOR BUZZER REALLY NECESSARY HAHAHA
I love my 94. doing a 6 speed swap on it soon
anybody think the Cummins from the 2500 would fit in there?
EliteSofa it would be interesting if it did.
EliteSofa that would be my dream truck
5:20 Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
Billy Loughridge one of my favorites
We had the same truck before my dad bought the current truck that we have.
That buzzer sounds like a fire alarm.
1998 wad the best year!!!
i literally said thank you when you closed the door to turn off the alarm
I really don't understand why some manufacturers found it so necessary to destroy your eardrums with an obnoxious warning buzzer whenever the key was in the ignition and the door was open. Honestly. I can see why they'd do that for many a seat belt warning, but really?

Best Dakota ever made. The ones from 1997 and on are UGLY!!!
SUV Man plus the started puting the 4.7 in them
Mopar Man I still think they look great (1997-2004) then the years 2005-2008? We're ugly and cheaply made
Mopar Man these do look better, but the 1997-2004 dont look THAT bad.
Trucks are for work not for look it not a camaro.
Totally agree. With a 318 in this small/mid truck what a fantastic vehicle.
My grandpa has the truck except his is a 93 red and regular cab
@randomhero713 If its the 318 its a great deal
Bet it’s still on the road to this day.... merica!
Considering the year of manufacture, the quality is superlative
carburated 5.2 ?
9 years too late but no. They have fuel rails and injectors.
Like these 1st generation truck like that for Dodge Dakota 1987-1996 old school model year. This 1st grille was 1987-1990 model year. Cordell Lewis I think somebody just copy and pasted off of Wikipedia to look smart
lol looks seems so old for its time
IKR? It looks more like an 80s truck, doesn’t it?
looks more like from 1979
It's got the insides and that's what counts, Sally.
Sadly my grandfather's Dakota is no longer with us:(.
Thinking about one for a first truck, maybe a 97 since it gets more mpg than my mom's 2013 F150(15MPG)
According to Google the Dakota gets about 25MPG
you can turn the buzzer off... i did in mine
my dad had the sport but its a 95 his got smashed the whole chasie got shifted 3 in and it got fixed then it died then that was the end rip dodge dakoda 95-99
why does it say 1997 on the windshield?
I know this is a 3 year old comment, but it says 3997.
That dang buzzer won't shut up
i ripped the buzzer out of my 93 lol
