Thanks for watching Paul. I think this mod will work on any bike. Just make sure you Google the freewheel you already have installed to confirm how many teeth you already have. Then look for a replacement with the same number of gears with more teeth on the big cog and less teeth on the small cog.
Thanks Troy. Im really pleased with the results on the modification. Im just surprised that the manufacturers don’t gear them like this in the first place.
Video's are great keep them up. I recently bought a Cyrusher Kommoda, and changed the rear cassette as per your informative video. I must say I had problems with the chain slipping, I took into Decathlon for a gear service and they showed me the edges of some the teeth had worn, so had to revert back and refit the original cassette.
Thanks for watching. That’s a shame. I haven’t run into any issues with mine. I’m not sure the freewheel is the best quality but I’m not sure if any other manufacturers make a freewheel to this spec?
Great idea! What you say applies just to any other e-bike I know off. I have the same problem, and I'm going to applie the same solution, only upgrading also to a 8 or 9 speed cog set (and handle lever in accordance). Your vid encoraged me. Thanks!
Just ordered a Cyrusher XF800, All-Terrain Ebike, as we live pretty rural area, so plenty of off road, loving your easy to understand videos, will let you know how i get on when the bike arrives next week. Cheers.
Loved my XF800, but my stiff old hips found it hard to get a leg over the saddle even after cutting 1/2 inch off the down tube! Had to sell it and get a Kommoda step through. My XF800 had a lower rolling residence than my boys other brand fat tyre e-bike and could reach a true 27 mph (‘true’, meaning I reset the tyre size to its actual 28”….measure from the axle to the ground and double it).
Thanks for all the videos on the Kommoda. We have just bought 2 and will start on the suggested upgrades in a few weeks. Would you be able to do a short video on setting up the electronic display and bike power settimgs? - Setting the wheel size (it comes with 23 set as default is okay'ish) but what about things like PAS strength, start strength, resetting the odo and miles covered - there is a manual but it doesn't explain what these things do.
I have just got myself one of these Komodos absolutely loving it, but I noticed this offset ratio thing compared to my partners E-bike which has 24" wheels with those 20" wheels really considering that smaller cog like you suggested.
Hello I bought a E bike kit rear wheel drive and it came with a thumb throttle , and ordered a twist throttle off the same web site may last year. Don't know if Cyrusher has a twist throttle but if not other types all have a 3 core wire and are easy to wire up . enjoy the video's. Cheers
I do believe one of my my bikes has an astonishing tooth count of 36 first down to 11 top. Not sure if your standard derailier would cope or like the front crank gear been so big. But just letting you know what's available. (I do have it fitted and working on a standard pedal bike) not long myself on the electric scene but I do like to mess about with stuff.
Congratulations for this video, for a recalcitrant disassembly you can help yourself with a heat gun, can you tell me how many teeth on the crankset? THANKS
Here in the USA, there is no problem with having a thumb throttle, or in my case, with Cyrusher's Ovia and my new Kommoda 2.0 with a built-in throttle. Being 80 years old and with COPD, the bike must do most of the work immediately. On my 2023 purchase, which was the Ovia, I put 4,040 miles on it, and now the weather is cold, so I put it away for warmer weather. Would it still be worth trying to do what you did here? Both are 20-inch Fat tires.
I have the same problem going up steep hills on my XF900! I need to install lower gear ratio cassette. Might also be a good idea to increase the pedal assist sensitivity.
I have this exact bike, I've kept it restricted to 15.5mph for now, but I have just found and ordered this freewheel from Amazon. I'll get a bike place to install it for me though... :D
Drift Maniac Amazon The tool is a universal adapter for removing cassettes. Available on Amazon. Just search for bike cassette removal tool (or something similar). Alternatively, ask at your local bike shop.
Ha! I recognise that hill. It's in my home town too! Would be interested to know how you are getting on with the bike after a year or so. Its on my short list. Would you recommend it still?
Would this work on my Engwe L20, its a heavy beast, the larger sprocket on the cassette would be helpful to pull away….i am trying to stay legal ( no throttle)
I can’t really say for sure. I’d imagine it would work on most bikes. You could always give it a go, it’s not massively expensive so if it doesn’t work you won’t have spent too much.
So far so good. I not a heavy user (not commuting on it). I think it would be better to get a better quality brand. I’m not sure who makes them though?
He keeps saying ‘cadence sensor’, but I thought the Cyrusher bikes had Torque sensors. If you don’t know the difference…a cadence sensor detects the rate you peddle the crank and just switch the motor on pretty much all or nothing, whereas a torque sensor detects how hard you push the peddles down and provides a much smoother and more controllable power output. BTW….Yes it is harder to go fast, but on the road you were going nearly double the maximum allowable assisted speed…So in normal use it should be ok.
The Kommoda definitely only has a cadence sensor. You’re correct about the speed though. 😉 Incidentally, the throttle isn’t allowed either. Im actually removing the throttle and if you check out my other video you can see how I keep it legal while still being able to access full power when on private land. You are right though, you aren’t allowed to ride that fast with assistance on the roads in the UK.
I stand corrected! I purchased a Kommoda myself and as you say it IS a cadence sensor….which enables ‘ghost peddling’, slowly turning the crank with zero effort in a low gear while the bike cruises at 12-15 mph. This feels odd at first Lol! Thanks for the interesting video.
The reviews on Amazon of the Drift Maniac 11T -34T are not good - several say that it wore out in 6 months. Do you know of an alternative or do we need to lobby Shimano to start manufacturing them again - or try and get Cyrusher to do it?
Cyrusher warn against this in the user manual. Which could be either: 1) Because it is effectively a fixed speed throttle therefore illegal to ride when activated. 2) Maybe stresses the Moss Fets in the speed controller. If the former then I’d say use to get going.
I have just done this mod and yes its a lot better now and the top speed has vastly improved
I can totally relate to this issue. I have a 20 inch fat tyre bike and once I reach 20 mph I am ghost pedalling. This looks like the ideal solution.
Thanks for watching Paul.

another handy little video bud and a great worth while upgrade to add to my list should absolutely add some miles to range which is always a bonus
Thanks Troy.

Let me know how it goes.
Hi new subscriber - thinking of buying one of these your videos have been a great help - keep it up

I ordered a twist throttle from cyrusher and fitted it to my kommoda and it's brilliant as I am disabled and it's far superior to a thumb throttle

I’ve tried to increase the sensitivity. Seems like my bike was at max sensitivity from the factory.

Fair play to Amazon, it was delivered about half an hour ago...
Thanks for watching. I think you’ll notice the difference!
9:44 9.41, you only mention the exchange cassette once . And a £5 special tool. But not what is I for. And where to get it

Hi. My knees are shot to bits so considering either the Kommoda or the Ovia. Do you still own yours & do you recommend these bikes?
Ha! I recognise that hill. It's in my home town too! Would be interested to know how you are getting on with the bike after a year or so. Its on my short list. Would you recommend it still?
Me too. All the RUclips reviews rave over it but the trustpilot reviews tell different story
Have you tested the new range yet?
Would this work on my Engwe L20, its a heavy beast, the larger sprocket on the cassette would be helpful to pull away….i am trying to stay legal ( no throttle)

How many gears on the cassette?
How is the freewheel holding up? Some concerning reviews on Amazon with photos of snapped gears about 6 months in.
So far so good. I not a heavy user (not commuting on it).
I think it would be better to get a better quality brand. I’m not sure who makes them though?
Jebus no gloves, when riding I mean. Great information though. Nearlly descided to get one of these bikes.
is it 11-28T or 34T?
Its the 11 - 34T
Thanks

I think you’re right. It’s not the highest quality component. It would be great if there was an alternative manufacturer.
WALK MODE..If you have an e-bike that has walk mode...it actually has hill start, walk mode hill start, try it...J.

Why dont you make your own goddamn Ebike...
What are you getting at with this comment?
Does this modification affect the speedometer calibration?
no
It shouldn't affect it. Speedo is reading from elsewhere not after the gears.
