The number of trains departing and arriving in Kyoto has been significantly reduced with the timetable change in March, but morning trains No. 1 and No. 3 still depart from Kyoto.
All seats are reserved, and there are no more unreserved seats.
Thirty years have passed since the train debuted in 1994, but it is equipped with two 350 horsepower Komatsu engines per car, boasting the acceleration of a commuter train and a designed maximum speed of 160 km/m.
The spectacular run from Kamigori Station with the naturally controlled pendulum device activated is a sight to behold.

振り子装置は上郡駅から作動します。
上郡駅で交代した運転士さんがカメラ前で下を向いている時にスイッチを入れています。

智頭急行は全国の第三セクターの中でも屈指の黒字路線とか。色々理由はあろうと存じますが、特急を走らせる覚悟は含まれるでしょう。
いつもはカメラが中心から右寄りなのに、今回は左にオフセットされてるので雰囲気が違います。まあ自分は、振り子ってだけで涎が出るんですが。
確かに山陰新幹線は不要だ。
