In the typical situations where I can play, I'm usually within arms reach of a power outlet anyway. Also a thing detractors usually fail to mention is that the 1.5 hour battery life is an absolute worse case scenario where you're running a highly demanding game and pushing the Deck as hard as you can. Most of what I play gives me between 4 - 6 hours. (Like I have time to play for that long though.)

@@The8bitbeard Indeed! You do have to set your expectations going in to steam deck. 90 minutes game time is indeed an exaggeration. I've had mine for a month now and I'm yet to burn through the steam deck's battery life all the way to 0.
I think most of those are people aiming for 60 fps and high graphics settings. Of course you'd barely get 2 hours on that. I, however, have had mine set to 30fps at 60hz or 40fps at 40hz. Didn't notice quite a big difference in power consumption except, 40/40 is a tad more demanding on the CPU.

True. Nice little 30 min bites, whenever you get a little breather. 😉 And if you know how to tweak the Deck properly, you can play Cyberpunk or Horizon Zero Dawn, and still get 2,5-3 hours of battery life if you want to.

"Adult Switch" lol Reminds me of the marketing between Sega and Nintendo in the 80s, where Sega was trying to be more "adult" and "mature" than Nintendo. But there's some truth to that. The biggest reason why I'd almost certainly never get a Switch is because it doesn't have the games library I'm looking for.

Subscription scams is what made me give up on console gaming, and it was the best decision I made. I was always concerned with PC gaming, since I didn't know anything about it and it seemed so complicated... Well, I still don't know much about PC gaming, but I can manage to play my games on Linux which run games ridiculously better than on Windows. I still had to buy another PC running Windows for MW2019 and MW2. I also have my 64GB Deck upgraded to 1TB storage, at first I did replace the NVMe storage to 256GB which was pretty good, but a deal on Amazon for the 1TB made me reconsider.
Now I haven't even bothered with the new gen consoles, I got tired of subscription scams, and pretty much all of my favorite games, I already repurchase on Steam, which have games on sell every week.

This Review doesn´t make sense at all. And I say this as a Steam Deck owner.
    1. You can play MANY games in the Switch, although not all games, for obvious reasons.
    2. Applies to a Switch, too.
    3. The portability is fair enough, but the games are NOT more expensive. Take Gamepass for example. A huge library for the Xbox for 80€ for 36 Months. Are you kidding me? Thats a steal. Plus, you can always buy games via VPN from ARG/ TR. The other day I bought Divinity 2 for like 2 € for my Xbox.
    4. Fair enough, the other way around you cannot play Switch games properly on the Deck. And no, Yuzu is a mess with glitches and unstable FPS, so this does not count.
    5. You can customize a lot on the Switch, IF you are willing to take the risk and run CFW.
Good video tho, but it is just not that simple like you claim it to be :)

Not woth it, for real shooter you can only hold to with an controller. You only stick to steam and nothing else to use it. The power is overhyped and aktually bad. Buy a PC!!! For 200 ore max 300 it wood make sense to buy but what it can is not worth it, sad to say that but ravenfield with 50 boots can run my laptop with no leg for 300 and the steam deck oled have trouble 😂😂😂😂 NO

I got 4.5 out of 5 of those myself. While i dont care to tinker too much, I want the ability to be able to mess with things if i need to. So i think my search will conclude with a steam deck for a handheld, plus already having almost 200 steam games that i havent touched in over a decade maybe, helps the decision too. But now do i spend the money on the oled, or cheap out and probably still be happy with the lcd.
Vampire survivors is the game that promted me to realize i could really benefit from a handheld device. Ive been playing it on my phone through game pass cloud gaming. I used to have a psp years and years ago and i loved it but it didnt catch on enough back then like the switch has. I dont really care much for most of the Nintendo games and there isnt anything exclusive to them that I would miss playing so I fell off the gameboy wagon after the micro.
The playing when you have 10 minutes is basically my life. I tend to read a lot of ebooks and will open kindle when i have more than a minute or two to wait. I miss playing video games though and i cant responsibly hide away in my room on the xbox while my younger kids around destroying rooms unsupervised. Being able to engage with my younger kids, while playing a match of something with the oldest through crossplay, and chilling on the couch seems like a pretty great deal.

Having built pc’s for years in the 90’s and early 2000’s. I felt out of gaming for a while then went back into console gaming . And due to not wanting to spend time away from the other half and pooch I bought an Xbox series X mainly for flight sim …. Now I’m missing portable gaming and pc games . So torn between the oled steam deck and the asus Rog.

I love games, but I love hanging out with my wife too. Thing is, we don't necessarily engage actively all the time, we might just sit there on the couch while other one watches tv and other one goes through their phone or something. Steam deck is awesome for me for this reason, I can hang with her instead of being at my pc in a room where she doesn't really have anything to chill on.
edit: 1:45 I should have watched the video before leaving a comment, but this is exactly what I meant.
edit 2: Actually of the points you go through I can agree on. It's really one of those "You don't know that you need it till you have it"

Cool video, but there might be a reason to why the Xbox, Switch and PlayStation might not have the customizability of a Steam Deck and that's because their meant to be 'user friendly' the Steam Deck is as well but it also has some customizability in it from Valve and the community also it's sort of a PC. Can't wait to try the Steam Deck!

I slap my iPhone 13 onto a $21 controller with phone bracket. I am playing Gta, brawlhalla, football, CODM on it right now. It is fun and portable. Steamdeck would be better, but I don't have money for it

    1. No size at all. Every competition offers 4tb
    2. Underpowered old tech
    3. Less memory than my mobile phone
    4. Doesn't use Windows OS
but yes if it were out of desperation, Steam deck is at least "Good" where as the Switch is not even a consideration.

Thank you for the video. I'm still thinking about getting a Steam Deck. Do Steam games typically cost less than typical first party Nintendo games?
