Mike, I found this video you made strangely compelling.
I resisted the urge to add a Jacob’s Ladder GIF to my comment.
    You’re welcome.

Amazing!! It looks practically brand new.

Restoring that was certainly a labor of love. The wide traces on the PCB are a blast from the past. I am used to modern digital electronics with ultra fine traces and multiple layers. Also, that tube tester is amazing.

Nice job on that! i've seen people restore old wooden radios but never saw someone restore a plastic radio from the 60s. This gives me all sorts of ideas to restore my dad's old GE that my cat knocked off the dresser and cracked years ago. Love the humor you throw in the video as well!

I don't know why I was recommended this but I enjoyed it nonetheless, keep it up!

Michael, at about 04:07 in this video...
*_"Now, that wouldn't stop me from plugging it in. I would just cut the plug off and stick the wires in the electrical outlet."_*
Well, THAT certainly explains a lot...😉
    *EDIT→* He really did it...🤭

Mike I think what happened was that the dial cord broke and whoever repaired it shortened the dial cord putting more pressure on the variable capacitor.

Michael, at about 29:00 in this video... *_"I'm time traveling."_*
As I commented under your _Philmore Crystal Radio Kit_ video, spinning that _crystal radio_ around on your drill can cause UNINTENDED TIME TRAVEL...😉

I enjoy your sense of humour, actually and, BTW, nice repair job! Edit: I subbed to your channel.

Chicago, I bet this radio played a lot of that in its day.
Going back in time, I was hoping to hear a bit of KYW and its tickertape and maybe the ARCO Go Patrol report. I sure do miss that.
Or maybe hearing an old WIBG broadcast. I have one tape from back then. Man, those were the days.
Do you have a LP (low power) AM.transmitter? I've got my eye on doing one like Gregg's Vintage Workshop did, just not so big. That would have really been a treat, to have a period correct playlist actually playing through that plastic beauty.
Yeah, I actually miss Sears as well. Long live Silvertone!

WIBG was my favorite station! KYW is still around, but no ticker tape sound now. I do have a small AM xmtr. I should have gotten it out for the video.

@michaelsimpson5417 I still listen to KYW for weather and traffic. It's the ticker tape I miss.
Wibbage is now 94.3 FM in South Jersey and on-line.
Did you ever listen to the Texaco Star Theater shows, Sundays on either WFIL or WIP? Always a good show.

Anyone notice the spider that got evicted upon opening the radio?

Magic Mike: As I’ve seen on many a Sears Silvertone radio or TV, “Use only genuine Silvertone tubes.” Obviously that radio you’re restoring won’t perform properly (or at all) using RCA or GE or ??? tubes. Good luck finding those. 😂

Yes, I should have DEMANDED Sears Silvertone tubes! Funny, I don't remember the Sears vacuum tube factory, or have seen any pictures of it. LOL!
