Generator condition of 50% is OK. It is when it gets to 20% that there is a danger that the generator will catch fire or explode. I have updated the wiki to reflect this.
Tip that no one mentions and you'd never find out by yourself. Despite car seats saying they can only take up 20 kilos, you can actually place any SINGLE item on an empty car seat even if it weighs more then 20 kilos, so if your car's trunk can't fit the generator, just drop it in the back seat.
the only seat i can put it in is the driver's... despite them all having the same capacity and being empty (chevalier primani). wont fit in the trunk, the car is hanging together by a thread as it is.
I made the mistake of putting a generator smack dab in the middle of the hospital in fort redstone bc the power went out.. little did I know it fills the ENTIRE building with fumes, so I had to fight my way through massive hordes that were all drawn from in the building to the sound of this generator.. all before the generator could get low enough on condition to explode and burn down the hospital along with all my loot.. love this game hahaha

Something to keep in mind when carrying it around is that if you try to jump over a fence, you will automatically drop it before going over. Does the same when you try to equip a weapon if you have to fight zombies. A trick I use to get around that is to put it into a large container nearby and then click/drag it into my inventory instead of "picking it up". That way youre not holding it and can do other actions while moving without accidentally dropping it and forgetting/losing it like Ive done lol

Not sure if there's a bug with generator power use, however, if you have more than 1 popsicle fridge it will consume 0.58 per hour instead of 0.34(2x0.16 for Popsicle fridges and 0.02 for generator). I tried to save as much of the fresh foods as possible before the power went out, however, maintaining the generator fuel on a multiplayer server was a pain at 0.58 litres consumption).
yeah theres definetly something off with fridge consumption numbers, one fridge is fine but as soon as you get two or more fridges the power consumption seems to multiply. you go from losing 3-4% fuel a day to like 8-9% its crazy. or at least thats what i felt

funny how in game logic if you keep generator inside you die from smoke inhalation but if you put a generator outside it doesn't deteriorate faster or get damaged by rain.
Aren’t generators supposed to be pretty rugged stuff in general, it would be a design oversight to have your mobile generator to be not resistant to rain! After all there is a reason why it weighs 40kg and not 20kg

Is it a bad idea to put my generator up on the roof? I made the firehouse in Rosewood my base and prefer to run it on the roof. I guess I'll just try it out and have my answer before anyone will respond to this comment. Fingers crossed!
I remember hearing in a RUclips video that you can connect the Lamp on a pillar to the electric grid and have it be powered by the generator as opposed to a battery. Is that true?
How long does the fuel last? Do you think you can go out looting and leave your fridge running so your food dont spoil without fuel running out or it blowing up?
Fuel lasts for a pretty long time. In one full in-game day, even with a fridge running, the fuel might drop 5 or 8 percent depending on how big of a fridge you have (if you have more than one fridge or freezer it will use a lot more, so be mindful of that when making a base in a large grocery store or gas station). And the condition of the generator drops slower than that, so theres really nothing to worry about in the long run if you want to go out looting for a day or more.
Thanks this is really helpful and short. Only problem is I can't find the how to use generator. Thinking of makeing a new character with the electician perk
Bro, what's your best trait you suggest without more triats mod? Any suggestions? I'm pretty much wanting a trait that would benefit me after the lights and water turn off. I always have a hard timing looking for food. I just started recently farming and after the first week i got over 150 tomatoes after using 10 plots. But i cant always depend on it since I ran out of water very fast.
Just started and i found three generators in one Warehouse. Made it my base and its pretty locked down, going here because the power just went out and i have three to use 😅
Get some fuel from a car with any amount left. All you need in vanilla is an empty gas can. You can look under the hood of a car and mouse over the tank to see its fuel. Fill your generator and bring it to a petrol station. Connect it there and turn it on to be able to use the fuel pumps - they'll last a very long time. Best to have one full, turned off generator at the petrol station of your choice and another running at your base, in case you empty your cans and forget you need some petrol to get more.
How do you get gas practically? Assuming default settings cars don't have much to siphon...and you need a gen to get from a station....what happens if you clear all in your base area....you'd have to go to the next city over to siphon??? Is there no other way to produce power?????

So I was actually trying to figure out the noise radius/rules while planning this video. I was looking all over Reddit for answers but couldn’t find any exact ones. In my experience generators really aren’t too noisy. I’m almost sure that placing walls around around three of the sides and then a window to climb through on the other will do a good job of at least partially removing the noise. I also think that placing them on an upper level helps with the noise. If I find any more info on it I’ll be sure to let you know.
I have electrics 1, read the generator manual but can't connect my generator to my house. Power is still running from the grid but once it goes out I want to be ready. Any ideas why I can't connect it yet?
