    Grey Seal
    Song by Elton John
    OverviewLyricsListen
Why's it never light on my lawn
    Why does it rain
And never say good-day to the new-born
On the big screen they showed us the sun
But not as bright in life as the real one
It's never quite the same as the real one
    And tell me grey seal
    How does it feel
    To be so wise
    To see through eyes
    That only see what's real
    Tell me grey seal
I never learned why meteors were formed
    I only farmed in schools
That were so warn and torn
If anyone can cry then so can I
I read books and draw life from the eye
All my life is drawings from the eye
    And tell me grey seal
    How does it feel
    To be so wise
    To see through eyes
    That only see what's real
    Tell me grey seal
Your mission bells were wrought by ancient men
The roots were formed by twisted roots
    Your roots were twisted then
I was re-born before all life could die
The Phoenix bird will leave this world to fly
If the Phoenix bird can fly then so can I
    And tell me grey seal
    How does it feel
    To be so wise
    To see through eyes
    That only see what's real
    Tell me grey seal

The backing vocals are up too, if I'm not mistaken. It begins at 2:07
Thanks for your videos. You're doing amazing job! Love Billy Joel and Elton John piano tracks.

Thank you for posting this track, Campbell! This was the first time I could really appreciate Elton's intricate and complex piano work, especially as it builds through the verse, and then again in the altro. Also, not to be understated, is how he provides his own backing vocals. How did you get this? With Elton's fan base, I'm surprised there aren't more views. Thank you for keeping this posted, I return to it every so often...

These guys were a fantastic band- a BAND, not Elton John and a few other musicians. Dee Murray(RIP✝️✝️✝️) on the bass and vocals, Nigel Olsson on drums and vocals and Davey Johnstone on guitars and vocals. They wrote and arranged the songs together and decided what they would play themselves. The other guys were often as popular and famous as Elton. The way he treated Dee and Nigel was a disgrace. An absolute disgrace.

I agree that ej has a real problem with the way he treats people, not just them, but yes also them...however a good musician will want to work with other combinations and musicians. Not all great song Elton songs were with those two guys, he created many other great songs without them. I do agree that he could have done a better job letting them go. How do you think all the other guys felt when his manager told them shortly before their last show in nyc,1976 that after the show they wouldn’t be needed?
