This is common with Rammstein: their lyrics are often dark and can have multiple interpretations. As others have mentioned before, songs like "Wiener blut" makes you feeling guilty for liking the music and performance but hating the subject and lyrics. Excellent reaction as always. I appreciate how you really immerse yourself into both the words and music. So many just bop to the beat and never really experience a song. Music should be felt as much as heard. Music like this is a window into the soul of the artist, only those that take the time to get a closer look will truly appreciate the art and emotions that are being shared.

It's actually just a song about sadomasochism on one's own body. People who feel comfortable and it gives them relief when they inflict pain on themselves. So we call it pain, but those who practice it certainly don't in that definition.
The plot twist is in the end that he has said everything he has said before in a mirror.
I think the message here is to create more tolerance towards other people with different preferences. That they can talk about it normally without being condemned and judged.
I can well imagine that Till is also one of these people. What others do behind closed doors, he does for his art. I mean for the piano version of "Mein Herz brennt" he really hurt himself. He has cut his body.
For the official music video for "Ich tue dir weh", he has pierced a hole through his cheek to his mouth so that he can push a lamp through there so that his mouth lights up when he sings without you seeing cables. I have read that Till Lindemann likes pain...he has sacraficed himself alot for the art. For example The cuts he has on the Mein Herz Brennt (piano version video) are real... The light in his mouth for the Ich tu dir weh music video he actually had a peircing done in his cheek...so many other things he's done...I love that man so much!! Rammstein is the best and will always be the best IMO...whenever i feel down or depressed just hearing them or watching one of their awesome live performances always makes me feel better and puts a smile on my face 🙂💞

Aah yes, the Rammstein experience: Casually vibing to a catchy chorus and when you read the lyrics its a gut punch. They do that a lot, though hard lyrics often go with hard music.
Some of their other "tough" songs are Weißes Fleisch, Mein Teil (has a brilliant music video too), Wiener Blut and Heirate mich. But not every or even most songs are like this, its just one color they paint with.

This are for me not that dark lyrics. It's a description of loving sm, nevertheless with yourself or by another one.
But Rammstein focuses the dark sides of humanity and uses poetry to describe... and not just for creating controversity but for art and discussion. i love it

If you listen to the song "Wiener Blut" (Viennese Blood) without knowing the lyrics and look at the translation afterwards, you will feel really bad about enjoying the music and the performance. It's not that the performance exactly reflects the mood of the song lyrics, but the music is so good that even though you know the song lyrics, you have a conflicted feeling.

Must remember Till is a published poet... most of his lyrics have dual meanings. There are some heavy topics in their songs...but the music holds up...thats why they are one of the world's biggest bands. And their live performances are exceptional!

@@PandoraPlaysMusic I've seen them live 18 times, have tix for this Sept too. They never disappoint...its always so fun to watch them. While the shows must be highly choreographed, for safety, I always tell first timers not to get too wasted cuz they'll miss something great!

By the way if you translate it it sounds like horrible lyrics (and they are) but if German is your first language and you liste to the song you hear that the song is not too serious. It´s so over the top violent that its kinda funny in a way. Obviously not for children but as an adult you can understand that the lyrics are not to be taken as seriously.
I believe its about self harm because I've read that Till likes pain and he has done crazy stuff..like the cuts he had for Mein Herz Brennt(piano) were real and in the music video Rosenrot the flogging they all did was real and of course..Tills back was the worst looking one.....

You can't fix it because the person/people are enjoying themselves, the message is not heartbreaking it is about a pleasure that many people enjoy. It's not about abuse as you are meaning it, Coyote is correct, it is simply about S&M, maybe solo, but others do like to watch - it's it undoubtedly 'perverted' (whatever that means) most S&M is entirely consentual - boundaries are agreed beforehand and safety words used. Kudos on making the effort to find out about the song before watching the video. I find the live performance of this song much easier - the video, because nobody is miming to their own voice and the stripper bar/sex club setting, to me doesn't really fit the lyrics, confuses me. To be honest, confusing me isn't difficult! There are few Rammstein songs that do not involve sex in one way or another (Zeig Dich from their most recent album is about the Catholic church protecting sex offenders, Hallelujah from much earlier is also about religion, but sex as well). There's not much of Rammstein that won't challenge your head if you explore what is going on...

No songs by rammstein are playing on the radio. Just like all the other metal. On the radio you only get to hear pop.
