Alfy & Devlin
s/v Northern Dancer V
Thanks 4 sharing Alfy. Say "HI!" to Devlin for us.
Cheers 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the update and I make sure Devlin knows how many people miss her, she also reads all the comments so she knows. 😁
Love the classic full tumble home hull shape and the cut away front nose to push through the water.
I was very happy to see the beautiful lines under the waterline as well. :)
Sometimes it is good to miss something, because when it is back it is twice or even more times as sweet.
I missed your videos and am more than happy to see them and you back.
Respect.
So glad you enjoyed seeing this latest post and I am planning to post more as I get closer to doing more cruising! :)
Such a solid boat. Appreciate the video.
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed this episode. :)
Can't wait to see Devlin cooking something awesome as usual on the new oven. Cheers guys!!!!
It has been so hot lately that I have barely used the stove and mostly using the bbq outside. I know that Devlin will make much more delicious meals than I can on it! haha

Glad to be back and I filmed more so stay tuned. :)
@@lifeislikesailing no worry's you post i will be looking hug :)
The green on the boat blends in nicely with the color of the suroundings, perfect fit for this place on earth. Great work with the edit, I really liked the cuts on the way down and the music to go with it. Thank you for keeping us updated.
We love the colour scheme as well and so glad to hear you enjoyed the episode! Stay tuned for a couple more. :)
So good to have your videos back!
It’s good inspiration and therapy
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed the update!
I've saw the awesome photos on FB.....glad to see a video covering the haul out, thanks!
Glad to hear you are happy there is a haul out episode! :)
Thanks for the update Alfy. When will Devlin join you ?
I am getting Northern Dancer V all ready for her arrival, don't have an exact date on that yet.
Good to see you back with the videos!
Great to be back! 😁
I can’t wait for your first long passage. Japan? So happy to see you! Hope Devlin is well.
Devlin is great and I am having fun getting Northern Dancer V all ready for our cruising adventures, not sure if Japan is on our list of places to go. We'll be heading back to Northern BC first, maybe Hawaii as some point and then who knows. :)
Ah yes, tis true, absence makes the heart grow fonder... Devlin, NDV and you too Alfy! Thanks for the update!.... ....⛵⛵
So glad you enjoyed the update and stay tuned for more! 😁
!love Moonshine

Once again excellent video thank you best looking boat in the yard
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed this one! 😁
I absolutely love your vessel. She's gorgeous
Thank you and we love her as well!😁
Love your videos...especially enjoyed meeting you on the end of our dock before haul out....looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in the Gulf Islands!
Was so great to meet you both as well and hope to see you out on the water for a proper visit! 😁
Hey you have gotten started on making sure the thing doesn't sink in the slip! My boat did from a bad thuhull. That was before I owned it though. I am looking forward to the paint job!!
Yes, this was a big item to check off the list! Peace of mind now with the new thru hulls, sorry to hear yours met misfortune before you got her.
What a surprise to see your video , hope to see another soon. Welcome back
Thank you and stay tuned for another one soon. :)
Glad to see you were able to get a video posted & love the stove you installed.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed the update. :)
It's been a while, new boat nice,I like teak oil for easy maintenance
Thanks and teak oil is great for sure. :)
On the the exterior wood teak oil ,on the inside varnish is so nice were in the world you want to go that boat will take you there safely.
Now I'm subscribed with 2 subscriptions.
Same stove as our Catalina 380 Aisling..
Maple bay is a lovely marina..
Nice you have the same stove! Maple Bay is a great spot for sure and I am looking forward to brining Devlin down to check it out.
Oh, your boat is sutch a pearl! The color setting is perfekt! I thougt she had been build in the 1960-ties, but then i saw the bougt froster so she must be younger. Hope you both get some time on her during the autumn!⛵🎃🕊🇸🇪
Thank you and we love her, she was built in 1979 so yes a little younger than a 60s boat. This summer has been mostly maintenance, but hoping to get out for some off-season cruising. :)
Really. Ice to see you back.
Thank you and nice to be back! 😁
Good to see you Alfie, now the work starts. Will Devlin get down to help out? Looking forward to seeing your work.
yes been a year
Planning to do a little Fall cruising when I get a chance and after the haul out is completed. Devlin didn't make it down for this haul out, but I will keep getting things done for Northern Dancer V to be all ready for her arrival. :)
You just answered my previous question lol.
Glad it was answered! 😁
She's beautiful, even on the hard. That double-ring burner on the new stove will come in handy when you need a cup of tea Fast!
I spent a bit of time just looking at Northern Dancer V on the hard, and she has nice lines below the waterline as well I think. :). Yes, that large burner is great!
Like I said before, love the boat. You got a real gem. I have yet to see one as nice as yours. I recently went to Solomon, Md to see a supposedly 43 ketch, however, even though the several year old survey states she’s s 43, her layout says 41 , at most (to me) and not even a decent shower. On top of that, way overpriced for condition. Take a look on YW, you’ll see what I mean. Funny thing, I could “not” stand up behind the helm, without hitting my head on the mizzen. Makes me wonder if the mizzen isn’t set correct or I’m just to tall for a 43 (6’2). Bummed. Because I was really hoping for a good one
Thank you and we feel very lucky to have become the new owners of ND5, we know that she has been well-loved her entire life and we of course will continue to care for her. I haven't been on a 41, but I am sure there is a bit of a difference as we all know what 2ft in size difference can look like! I hope your search finds you a decent one! :)
Love the stove, but a little concerned with the clearance from the rear burner to the cabinetry! Particularly when there's a pot on the burner!
Clearance is fine, no closer than the rear burner on the stove I took out. Camera doesn't always show things in correct perspective. 😁
It's so peaceful, and green, and wet. I made this comment before, so I hope I'm not too annoying, but please make sure your chainplates are ok below deck, especially in your rainy climate. Not sure how you would do that, short of an X-ray, but I don't know much about boat maintenance. I remember the locally based (San Diego) Hans Christian 36 Rebel Heart was lost in the middle of the ocean due to hidden chainplate damage.
We are continually checking the systems and structure, those types of failures are not too common.
Your video’s make my heart sing, the scenery is breathtaking. May I ask what you and Devlin do for a living please, I have an impression that you are a RCMP and Devlin works in conservation but I am guessing and could be way off the mark. Thank you. 💐💐
So glad you enjoy the content. This episode should answer some of your questions. :). ruclips.net/video/Yhwqwun0Ua0/видео.html
Alfy, Thank You that was fascinating. 💐💐
👍
Very interesting stern design! Any possibility of diving into it a bit deeper?
It is what they call a 'double ender' or 'canoe stern' style hull.
more ! :)
Hey Alfie - that's a lovely looking Cat there by the haul out crane do you happen to know what design?
That one is a custom built cat.
@@lifeislikesailing Thanks Alfie
See any aliens up there in Ladysmith?🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Saw Elon Musk's chain of satellites, but that is it. :)
Oh bummer. I live on my 41 ft Fraser sailboat in the marina beside Maple Bay marina, Cove Yachts. I would have come to say hi. Are you still there?
You live in a beautiful area and I really enjoyed my time in Maple Bay, but after nearly 3 weeks on the hard there I am gone. We post more real-time photo updates on our Life is Like Sailing FB page (videos take longer to create). Say hello if you see us out on the water, we'll be cruising in the area for a while. 😁
its ok to be retired. but where the hey. have you been ! lol
Retirement will come eventually! :)
What process are you using to remove the old varnish?
I think I explain it in the next episode, heat gun stripping it, then sanding it using various grits. 😁
Are you going to live onboard again in the (near) future? Sometimes life gets in the way but boats deserve a daily companion.
Probably going to live aboard again at some point, but right now trying to just get as many boat upgrades done as we can for our cruising plans. :)
Wow! Not many boats look beautiful from every angle. I could easily sit in my lawn chair and move around every hour with my beer and not get anything done..
We really love Northern Dancer V from every angle as well and I could do the same! ha
No Osmoses?
The prop when you rotated it did not look as if it was giving you an equal pitch in both forward and reverse, might I suggest a closer look and investigation.
I did notice the pitch difference as well, but this is my first Max Prop. I'll ask the mechanic, but he did a full service on the prop so if something was off I am sure he would have mentioned it.
pls again give us more "D
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
😁👍
Sink , shower, bilge pump outlets would be better above the water line, don’t think!
HC41T Motion
I have never seen a sink thru hull above the waterline on a sailboat, but there are Anti-siphons on everything.
@@lifeislikesailing HC41T has main sink straight through bottom, 2 Wc sinks on waterline
I love your videos but I have to say, if you let all that brightwork fail you will end-up with a big job cleaning and varnishing all that wood.
All I can say is "That's a LOTA bottom"!!
There is a bit of surface area for sure! haha
