"Planar Chaos" (original Berlin School tribute)

- Berlin School is a genre of electronic music which originated in West Berlin in the 1970s. The sound consists basically of ambient elements combined with short, repeating sequenced runs of notes. Early Berlin School music generally lacks drums or percussion, but later it included elaborate layered percussion sequences. The general impression is often described as "spacey", "dreamy" or "psychedelic".
Certainly something that is part of my roots, of my soul. I can't deny that Tangerine Dream has had a huge impact on my music. I can't claim to make anything that good, but hey, here goes nothing.

I actually learn a lot coming around here, and I never heard of the Berlin School genre. I'm sure you're plenty surprised about that. 😆 I really enjoy spacey, dreamy and psychadelic, which is kinda puzzling to myself how I spent most of my musical energy doing less of those. It's never too late though, and you give me a great idea on how these things work. Slow, steady, and beautiful this was. Be at one with the music is how I see it. Everything you make is great, and I don't just say it to be nice (although you won't believe me) but your creativity and prowess is admirable. You are a true natural my friend! Stellar piece! Always delivering the goods.

Actually I’m way more surprised by the gap between the local musical knowledge in electronic music and the one you’ve got in your primitive mountain 🤣 Joking aside, electronic music is clearly born in Europe. It’d be a complete different story if we ended up talking about rock or country of course. Just to say that this gap is understandable. When you told me once that you’ve barely heard of Vangelis in your life, it’s a good example of how huge this gap is. And it’s ok, I mean everyday I’m learning something about US music or US musical roots. And that’s a good thing to share these informations.

The spirit of the 70s, including that of TD, is breathed here! However, regardless of whether or not it reminds us of TD or the Berlin school, this is another great and masterpiece that can delight fans of those times as well as anyone else who prides themselves on having good taste in music and knows how to enjoy of spiritual journeys, like the one you propose here! Was fun picking out all the parts of this piece and being able follow along. Also got an education on the Berlin genre. By the way I am familiar briefly with Tangerine Dream.
I think that you should consider listening to Klaus Schulze’s work (he was a member of TD during the best years), I personally learned a lot by listening to his work and analyzing each layer of his music.

Beautiful music! It’s really soothing and has that interesting balance of time and timelessness. I like early Tangerine Dream, but, to my taste, I don’t like their more recent music as much. Thanks Markus. The title was ironic. As a planar chaos is something complicated to figure out. We see chaos as something that goes in every direction. This music is about something that tries to go in every directions (delay...) but which still follows a straight and precise line. Well, if this makes any sense. I kind of did when I made the track lol.

Actually the dancing mysterious theme on the top of this reminds me more of Claudio Simonetti's Goblin, than Berlin school, almost like a Dario Argento movie theme. I know the pulsing rhythms that come in mid way have a TD sort of feel.

as soon as the theme enters at :018 it takes on a different character, more analogous to John Carpenter or Dario Argento. The central pulse at 2:54 is more stabilizing in a Tangerine Dream sort of way. @@nolake
