Well i compared XR camera with XS camera and... In "normal" mode the Xr camera takes better pics. Period. The screen resolution isn't an issue since i'm coming from an iPhone 6s+ and i only see advantages with the Xr over mine. Forget 1080p and 4 zilions DPI!!!! For god sake! It's a damn phone . Your eyes will only appreciate better colors/contrast/depth and not the pixels ! Wake up! iPhone xr for less money gives u all the premium features of an xs...but.. the display is bigger, it comes in 6 colors and sorry ... I find it's form factor much fresher and modern than Xs's. Just my two cents .
The wide angle lens on the XR and XS is literally the exact same. The only difference is the XS has an extra telephoto lens. You’re tricking yourself into thinking the XR is better lol.

Since i am mostly a portrait selfie person, i would be happy with the Xr since it offers all portrait lighting modes on the front camera and the camera is just the same as the Xs Max, so for me definitely Xr!!
I’ve had the X for a year. Wanted a bigger screen, but not the ridiculous size of the Max, so I just received my Xr today in the mail. Also the OLED screen on the X has caused headaches & worsening of strained vision. I chose the black. It hides the bezels better, & doesn’t bring attention to the different back camera, like the other colors do. I’ve heard the battery life is phenomenal, too; (We shall see!) No regrets here!
I like to use my iPhone7 for taking selfies, and I still think it's better because it takes sharper photos. I don't like how the XR zooms in, and on Snapchat the videos and photos look way to close, and smooths my face out too much, and it looks unnatural.

Preferring one or the other is a placebo, and the differences in images is a result of the differences are in how the phone is held and focused. LOLOLOL
TV's Ben I owned both the XS and XR (yes I know lul) and there is 0 difference. Where the difference may be found is the smart HDR, and the times the photos have been taken. Light throughout the day isn’t static so different shots may have been taken by the Smart HDR hence different composition
TV's Ben are they equal in quality for action shots (ie my sons basketball games) I cannot find any comparison for that, only portrait and still shot comparisons!!!
Now watch the salty placebo effect comments from the XS and X owners... And Mac Rumors, the rear camera of the XR is not ‘nearly identical’, it IS identical sans the zoom lens!! It is the exact same camera!
Wish the XR was smaller... it's too big. The fact that the XS's dual camera sometimes defaults to the smaller aperture tele lens is actually a pretty big negative. You should be able to choose which lens it's using.

Clean your lens or take it to an engineer to clean it when case is removed. xr camera is just perfect and so much love for its wide angle portrait lik it's just crazy
Had the XR since Launch day. Coming from a 7 plus, and I'm quite happy with it. A little bummed that portrait mode doesn't handle objects, but there are a few 3rd parties that are trying to make that happen with the depth map. Time will tell. Thanks for the nice comparison, Dan!
Do you have problems when posting on social media? Cause I heard that the quality of the picture when taken gets degraded when posted on social media due to the pixel density. I want the xr but picture quality is very important for me, I'd wish it to be similar to the 8 if not better
@@Insanestsage The only thing you need to worry about is Snapchat. It takes a picture at your screen's resolution. So technically the XS will be sharper, but you really won't be able to tell and nor will anyone else, and your snaps will still look better than those coming off an Android phone.

Good video. I can't tell any real significant difference between the R and XS. Having taken c25000 photos on my Iphone 6 during the course of my work, I will be interested to see the difference with the 10R.
Xr did a good job actually, its really great! I thought at first , it is going to be a downside of the phone of not having the ability of playing 1080p vidz cuz I expect that it could also affect the quality photo resolutions, but upon seeing this vid! Lol. Yeah it's not precise now. But when the depth data gets lytro good, then we'll see a different game. I don't mind having a 21mm f1.4 look or 35mm f1.4 look or 50mm f0.95 if simulated correctly. Don't even mind the nikkor 50mm T1.5 with swirl bokeh simulated. iOS 13 please do swirl bokeh.

Testing camera's but meanwhile your own eyes are always out of focus! :) Check Video focus before recording next time. It is annoying to look at blurry eyes :)

Dan is the least charismatic person I've ever seen handle the MacRumors videos. I care about the content but he just brings it down to a level that prompts me to end most of his videos prematurely. Also that portrait comparison of the woman and child in front of the fireplace is downright misleading. There was no effort whatsoever to properly frame the subjects with the XS. The lighting is bed sure but there's no flash and the exposure wasn't raised. There's also no portrait style to be had in the XR photo.
I see what you mean. But in some ways I appreciate his style, as opposed to other people who are like car salesmen, and I leave the video either more confused or overhyped about something that really isn't important.

Its possible since 3rd party apps allow it(Halide). They just need to train their AI.
There are some pretty good free apps that let you make that blur effect in just a couple of taps. So I don’t see the need for the 250$ more imo.

XR is better for portrait because it captures wide portraits allowing more scene in the photo unlike the XS.
Now apart from the portrait photo matter on the XR, to me i see that the photos of XR are nicer with warmer tones and better details!
They have the same exact cameras. Warmer colours can be based on phone position, angle, etc
