Ahh gfriend.. this group has been inactive for almost 4 years but they are still in the top 4 female groups with the most music show wins (71 wins). Gfriend comes from such a small company but they were able to compete with other girl groups from big companies and also be able to enter the top 5 of the 3rd gen girl groups known as TREBELMAYEO (twice, red velvet, blackpink, mamamoo, yeojachingu/gfriend)
Glad to see Gfriend show up on the random drawing, much to my delight. BTW, The "Awakening" album is probably not the most representative sound for Gfriend. The Gfriend sound the industry came to recognize is orchestral pop, where the prominent instrumental is a core signature for their music, particularly the strings like violins. The early Gfriend songs also is known to incorporate the solo section of electric guitar. "Navillera" gives a pretty clear example here. In any case, appreciate the reaction video.
I really liked this one. On the album review I remember that I didn't mind the songs but I didn't like their voices. That wasn't the case here. I thought their voices suited the song well and I liked the video as well. The aesthetic is very nostalgic, like they could be school girls from just about any decade in the last 50 yrs and I liked that timelessness and the kind of soft focus feel of it made it seem even more like it could be anywhen. I would definitely like to see more of them.
Right? This felt like a great step up from what we had heard, I think timeless goes well, I think because of the all ages feels behind it, I'd feel comfortable with this being on with any if my nieces and nephews.
hello i'm here! i would say you don't know gfriend's true signature sound yet haha. for that you need to find their sad nostalgic girl music like rough or sunrise or time for the moon night or crossroads. but that just means you have more to discover. but to me navillera is the peak of their early sound (even though rough technically came before) and no gfriend song can make me happier. the main vocalists are yuju and eunha. yuju (braids or longest, wavier hair depending on the scene) does the big notes here including at the beginning of the last chorus and then eunha (shortest hair) comes in with the geurigo na. the next song on my gfriend list is sunrise i believe
@@Killdeer25 yeah so rough is their big famous song and i think you should get to it eventually but it is representative of this power innocence high school era (2015-17) that you've already explored a bit with navillera. time for the moon night opens what i would consider the next era (2018-19). even though nostalgia places tftmn over sunrise for me, i think most people would pick sunrise and i understand why (without spoiling anything lol). they have quite a similar sound though. then the last era is hybe era which felt like a another new mature evolution that could have gone so much further. makes it such a shame they were so unceremoniously dropped
I think I will trust your recommendations and check out the moon night opens, it seems generally that I have preferred what you recommend compared to what I would pick. I hate that they do that, just bing bang boom! no rhyme or reason
@@Killdeer25 problem is i love pretty much every gfriend title track lol! i think either tftmn or sunrise would be a good choice. the former i prefer overall but the latter has particular sections that maybe shine brighter. but they both have a similar sound though so you'll get the idea
Ahh one of the best girl group songs during the last decade and probably GFriend’s peak single. Don’t know if you made this connection (I commented this before you finished your commentary) but this song is reminiscent of INFINITE’s The Chaser. I always refer to this song as the girl group version of The Chaser. Also, I want to know if you still got my request for that Golden Child album?
yeah, this was a solid track, I have to go back and relisten to The Chaser, I think its been too long to make the connection. uhh remind me which album it was? I am fully retooling the album reviews because of the Babymonster block, so its going to be done differently. but I think I will have the details nailed down and ready for next week, after the Purple Kiss concert
@@Killdeer25 Nice! Also, I'm making a video based on the question you asked on my first video. This idea literally came to me about 20 minutes ago. What years and groups count as 4th gen? I get stumped on figuring out 4th gen. 5th gen is pretty easy to figure out lol
I don't mind the song, but the childish elements of the video have always made me uncomfortable. This came out back when we still had a weekly Asian pop music video show on Australian tv and my daughter, who was still pretty young at the time, was absolutely fascinated by the 'little kids' who could sing and dance like that. She still loves the song lol. Navillera is pretty much peak GFriend, basically the height of their popularity. It came right on the back of Rough which is in a similar vein and was very popular for its guitar sound and the clock dance choreography.
Yeah, I do have to say, this felt more childish than bubblegummy, but the song itself can stand on its own, kind of luckily too. I definitely feel like this video was meant much more for children than someone like me haha! But it's ok
Yeah Gfriend 🤟🤟
right? this was fun!
Thankyou for the gfriend reaction. You can check out their other hits too such as 'Rough' or 'Time for the moon night'.
I very much will! probably when I come off the anniversary week
👍👍
I see gfriend i clicked
Truth!

I think as I go over time with them I am getting more and more impressed with them for each song I hear
Fun fact: Navillera's music show wins are as many as the number of trophies on its MV!
4:52
ohhh! that is so cool!

yeah, I very much need to do more for sure, any recommendations, I agree though, this was a much better showing. thank you so much for watching
I agree about the awakening. definitely not the most "gfriend" sounding album of theirs.
@@Killdeer25 Gfriend's "Rough" is a must listen. For the Gfriend siganture sound, one should also include "Time for the Moon Night" and/or "Sunrise".
For me, The Awakening album still has the GFRIEND signature sound but on a darker spectrum compared to their usual brighter concepts in the early days

Thanks for the reaction! Hope u can react more of them. You can try 'Rough' which is their most succesful song in terms of achievements.
I will probably do rough next for sure!
