Something I noticed about the Crossword app is that there's references to TikTok as one of the clues for 12 across. That must mean that the date is definitely messed up and the crossword you downloaded is recent. Insane!
I had changed the system date to the date of recording by that point so the puzzle that the program downloaded was a recent one, which explains why there's references to modern stuff.
So do you mean that its actually recent?
11:42 it is recent One of the question is “Turning _______” (2022 Pixar Movie)
@@oxymoronic-ephiphanies "Turning R_d"
So nice seeing the Windows XP Tablet back on the channel. It's been years!
I was actually surprised how well it drew! For an old tablet that was made back in 2005, almost 17 years ago, that was pretty awesome. I love your videos, keep up the good work!
that's just about as old as RUclips in fact.
Somewhere in the mid 2000s we reached a plateau. It's a giant leap from what was possible in the 90s.
A lot of stuff was made pretty well back then and generally was of a higher build quality compared to a lot of the modern stuff that is sold with a two year life span. When collecting just be very choosy to avoid the bulk of the consumer junk from brands like HP because they were some of the worst back then.
@@MrKillswitch88 oh come on. Nothing was worse than eMachines and Acer
@@ElectricoGamez Yeah
I remember buying 2 Toshiba XP tablet PCs very late in their lives, maybe 2012, for my young kids to use and they LOVED THEM. They were powerful enough for playing simple games and watching videos and the kids liked to draw and color so they were perfect for them. I think I paid like $90 apiece for them.
Worked in Staples for a while some years ago. Remember having these things in stock. Mostly HP I think. Bloody thick and sturdily built from what I remember.
I remember buying a pair of those on a film shoot, along with arm strap accessories. Think they were $4K each. It was for 2 coordinators. We joked about giving them both to the same guy, so he could have one on each arm and look like an oversized dual monitor stand.
Thats hilarious 😂
The fact this title isn't "eXPeriencing the Windows XP Tablet PC's eXPerience Pack" is a crime.
(NOTE: You can't use the same joke in the title TWICE) me: right...
Ink Art! I recognize that one, that's ArtRage!! (I can kinda tell by the logo that popped up) I had a copy of that that came with my wacom bamboo splash tablet back in 2013! Didn't know it was a thing on these old tablets.
Love this and the WIndows 7 era of these tablet PCs, the designs were so interesting and they still catch my eye today!
5:16 Michael gradually becoming Bob Ross right here 🖌️
Nice, a content for Old Windows Tablet. Never heard of this pack and I wish I know this before, seems that programs included are very fun to use especially as a child
Wow I haven't seen the tablet in years, I'm glad to see that it's still in action!
And I'd love to see you make a video on how to make Windows 7 look more like Vista, I've always preferred the visuals of Vista but I want the security/reliability of 7 :D
Your starting point should be the Vista VS theme pack. You might even be happy enough just with that, but you can of course go further.
there's no security for windows 7 whatsoever anymore
@@jennica4223 There's common sense. That's all you need on any OS.
@@TDGalea common sense of realizing youre targeted cause your os doesnt have any type of security protocol 😂
@@jennica4223 You're only gonna be targeted if you're a business or you piss somebody off.
Wow that Ink Art is just the ArtRage! I didn't know the ArtRage was born that early! How cool was that
i really miss this era of operating systems sigh. all of cool things like this could get or change as well no full bloat and always online apps everywhere and just love the old theme/ui's from win 95 era to the shiny glass like ui that is not this flat colouring everything became today bleh.
Welcome back, Michael! Glad to see you uploading again!
Lol, this is the nerdiest Bob Ross video ever
Ah yes, the Stargate Atlantis Tablet PC. Always wanted one of these back in the day. Bought one for 50 bucks a couple years ago
I have to admit, something about the era when "tablet PCs" were a thing still makes me a bit nostalgic. There's just something about having Windows XP shoved into that form factor. (same with UMPCs, honestly...)
aren't they pretty much surfaces? although they have docking keyboards usually
@@lolcat I know Surfaces can be used with a pen, but it’s not mandatory. For me, that’s part of what makes the “Tablet PC” era unique. Weird form factors, pen-only interface, barely-adapted Windows desktop.
Nice your bisexual im Genderfluid and abrosexual
I wanted one so bad, and I had no justifiable reason to own one. Nor would I have been happy with it because they typically had worse performance than regular laptops and everything I did needed a modicum of power.
Windows XP tablet edition is such an underrated piece of tech it was wat ahaid of its time and it worked prefectly even for today standars
Super interesting to see how Windows XP behaves with pen input (in terms of its UX). Thank you for the showcase!
PS: 13:47 the word you were looking for is "stroke"
Edit: misplaced parentheses
Slap a custom case on that and the Stargate Atlantis nostalgic is real.
Man I miss when tablets seemed like the future
I have a Gateway M275 that I love. I always thought that was the correct direction for a tablet in software and usability. Unfortunately, that was the last large format tablet pc.
It is amazing that the crossword still works with updated puzzles. You would have thought that it would have stopped getting new puzzles at some point in the last 17 years but it still works.
Maybe they version the crossword API really well haha
cool to see the start of the snipping tool.
Michael, happy to see that your video projects are back on feet! keep it up!
Ink art looks very similar to Microsoft's Fresh Paint in newer versions of Windows
just watched all of your history of windows development, and I remember that in one of them, you talked about this. crazy coincidence
that media center theme was a blast to see again. woke up dormant memories
It is interesting to see how Microsoft since XP tried to bet on touchscreen equipment, and now it has one of the best lines of tablets/laptops. I also found that Microsoft developed a specific interface for UMPCs with the Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition (Origami Project Launcher), although I haven't found any videos showing the interface in action.
1:11 love the fact that DankPods' iDuck video showed up in the recommendations
also, you should run some version of osu! on that tablet lmao
@@kantraa Oh god, osu would be terrible on these, imagine the input lag.
Ink art is just a rebrand of artrage
I remember using artrage when I was a kid, I got a dvd full of pirated software and it had it
Used to spend hours on it so that’s why I instantly recognized it
I thought it looked familiar!
I laughed so hard at the part where you drew. Your deadpan delivery and sarcastic remarks were too much 🤣🤣
I love the random suggestions I get from your channel (I ended up subbing). I was born in 99 so I feel like I grew up simultaneously with technology so I was a little tech baby. But not an iPad baby thought. These kinds of technology bring me nostalgia.
Speaking of windows XP themes .. I remember seeing somewhere that there was a pack containing installers for all the known downloadable windows XP themes
Everyone else: "apple invented the tablet!"
Me, an intellectual: "well ackchyually....." 🤓
They didn’t invent the tablet. They defined the tablet. Same with iPhone and smartphones.
Nah they just marketed it to the mainstream. XP Tablets were always prohibitively expensive for consumers, they had a lot more success in enterprise environments, specifically healthcare.
Love your content! Hope your moving is going well!
Windows Game
I need a Video of MJD just drawing whatever... It's super relaxing to watch
Awesome video, Michael!
Oh man this brings back the old Pocket PC/Windows Mobile vibes. So glad I went and grabbed an HTC Touch Pro to relive the old windows goodness.
11:02 The way you write the letter 'e' surprised me
At 11:29 you can see that one of the hints is "scrolling tiktok to some" so it looks like these crosswords are up to date with the times too and not recycled old ones. Crazy how they've been keeping this up for so long after XPs end of life.
It seems to me theyre using a crossword site that has been up for decades. The site just never changed servers or their updated servers work with their old site/IP/something like that. So this old XP era tablet can still connect via the internet to that particular crossword site.
Not only you are showing things from the early 2000s, but also your voice sounds like Agent Smith from The Matrix xD
That Energy Blue gave me so much nostalgia. I had used XP Media Center Edition back then.
I have a feeling InkArt looks like a precursor or cutdown version of ArtRage. The UI looks very similar to how I remember ArtRage looking in 2006/7
Indeed.
This is my first time seeing a tablet like this and i em just amazed by how the mouse follows the pen when it gets closer the screen, it's something small but very interesting for me, great video by tha way.
3:54 the UI is so familiar, really same as ArtRage. Until finding out, it's actually the same company that created ArtRage.
Nice to finally see all those things working, for some reason whenever I install them on my TC-1100 most of them start crapping themselves with .NET errors, only the paint program works.
ambient design is the company who makes artrage, which is a pretty popular art software. looks like ink art was the precurser to it, very close design to artrage 4
i found this tablet at a local goodwill a few years ago. i think i paid $10 for it & i got it up & running
i kind of want one of these 4:3 windows xp tablets because it seems like the ideal way to play some of my favorite point and click adventure games
The Ink desktop application really reminds me of the Promethean software Smartboards use in education.
Great video MJD! Great to see the Windows XP Tablet again! (funny enough the thing is just about as old as RUclips itself...)
Also, are we gonna get a retrospective video on Internet Explorer since the browser is RETIRED now? (R.I.P Internet Explorer) :(
It seems that that tablet is even better than today's one
That puzzle server:”oh my oh my god what the hell! Yea yea here puzzle!! Here!
i was waiting for you to add some happy little trees.
My sister had one of those for school back in 2006!!.
yay been looking forward to another MJD video cant wait to watch it!. thanks for all the good content and keep it up MJD cant wait to see what ur gonna post next
It looks like stroke order is important. You kept writing a letter "e" but absolutely in the wrong direction so it didn't get it.
Software that is stroke-order sensitive allows you to write very quickly and illegibly in cursive and be understood
Makes me want to boot up one of my several tablets I still have with the Windows XP logo...
6:16 good job at making Bob Ross style videos 😉
Love this video! Gonna buy this soon!
Its funny because I just picked up a Toshiba Portege M200 and have been using XP tablet edition myself for the first time. It's actually quite fun
Welcome back Michael I hope moving to your new house is going well
5:38 Michael is following Bob Ross' steps in the joy of painting!
I feel like it's both awesome and a storage nightmare to have as many devices as you do.
Man, i took my apart two years ago. I am so mad at myself. BUT, instill got the exessories, i could send you these because you still have a working one. I dont have a use for the axessories. Its like a dock to put it somewhere on your desk and some extra pencils.
If you want it, just reply to the comment, because then i am happy to have found someone who i can give it to without throwing it away.
I felt the Bob Ross vibes from that lovely tablet drawing 🎨
Not going to lie, as a digital artist that painting program you show off first looks so tortured to me. Proper drawing tablets have little to no delay, you need them to be snappy.
I was reminded of the Snap-On OBD-2 reader that my shop teacher had because it ran the same OS... a expensive tablet that can read codes and stuff and again Snap-On
I'm surprised that he didn't a video about ie, finally being retired.
3:00 I've seen this theme called Energy Blue, Royale, and Media Center Style. I prefer Royale tbh
Kinda looks like the one in the movie "Collateral", in one of the taxi scenes.
Welcome back, Michael. Add the Channel Updates, please
Congrats on being mentioned in a The Verge article again
15:30 The snipping tool to the rescue
I love seeing videos like this! Also, I thought this theme was called the Luna theme?
You should try to install the Experience Pack for Tablet PC on modern Windows!
That's looks interesting
true
oh gosh, I got a similar tablet convertible (I had to solder in a chip ordered in from taiwan for whatever I guess tpm) I was proud I fixed it up cos I got it for my gran to use. She used it for 2 days...played card games on it and said nah, went back to normal cards..:D
Aw man 🤦😂😓
these were so futuristic to my teen eyes.they kinda still are.
Is that a Michael MJD Video? I mean: Nothing went wrong... 😂
Crazy that crossword API is still intact 20 years later
Makes me wonder if there ever was an experience pack for XP's Media Center Edition.
Never saw a tablet running a windows operating system, looks kinda weird but also looks really intresting, can you try to upgrade it to windows 7 or even vista in the next video? I would like to see it! It looks kinda fast so i doubt it should run vista, nor sure about 7 though.
Doesn't look so weird to me, but that's because I've seen doctors using these things. Funny to see these kind of apps on it tho.
RUclips hasn't been sending me notifications for a bit on this channel even though I have notifications set to all :((
Have some catching up to do now 😎
6:13 this app makes drawing in a tablet look like drawing stuff on an actual drawing paper.
You should do a video about Windows XP Media Center Edition
can we please have more MJD art sessions
Well, I would ever loved this one. Great for artists if they will what Apple doesn’t until Apple Pencil years later.
it's insane that the downloaded crossword is still updated.
18:08 LiM 😆👍🔥
Its probably looking for capital letters or the correct order of formation of the letters. I think I remember xp tablet handwriting being similar to pocket pc 2003 where letters needed to be drawn a certain way.
I have always used tablet PCs but never knew this existed - so annoyed with myself.
I really want to see this being upgraded in terms of specs and the actual window version.
thats so cool
true
This is the Tallgeese and the iPad Pro is Wing Zero.
Any time I hear Spy Groove I think of LGR Thrifts, lol
Funny how this computer line inspired the iPhone and iPad development lol
I think the server was kept because I think some later versions of Windows had the features still used, otherwise I have no idea.
You would've made an excellent XP tablet salesman my friend. I want one!! :p
I should get me one of these, I have a car that I sometimes use the leaked manufacturer's diagnostic software on and I'm pretty sure the newest OS it runs on is XP, so an XP tablet would actually be quite handy compared to the typical bulky early 2000s laptops. Or at least that's one excuse why I want one, I currently use an old HP mini laptop for that
