Players Whose Baseball Cards May Be In Trouble This Season

  • Every year new players debut and steal the show from older players. Many prospects are hyped up and many players seem to be on a hall of fame path and just fall short. In this video I look at 4 veteran players who are dangerously close to having their card values fall due to age and not maintaining pace as an MLB star or HOF caliber player. Baseball cards are hard to predict, but in this video I do my best to speculate on the rookie cards of these 4 players.

I don’t think the cards are in trouble, it anyone who is collecting that player that’s in trouble😂

It's sort of thinking that alleges that players somehow earn the market exchange value of cardboard stock. It's beyond defenseless. People ae trading in emotions and perceptions of value that will always struggle to maintain themselves. Knowing better is knowing the deficiencies in the human animal.

This, no one will want their cards when they're no longer playing. Maybe some team collectors. But their demand will continue to dwindle.

In a couple years Seager will probably get moved to 1st base. That will help his offense as he ages.

Seager’s advantage is the 2 WS MVPs and that he’s the best hitting shortstop of his era…for now. Rate stats are way better than Lindor, Correa, Turner. Just needs to play.

McCuthens' place is solidified because he has a pretty rabid fan base (like every long tenured Pittsburgh athlete) and his 2005 is hard to find in pSa 10.

Bellinger saved his career staying in Chicago less pressure. Corey Seager.....maybe he turns out to be Adrian Beltre, who flourished later in his career ironically enough as an Texas Ranger. Spot on with those guys. I thought the first one was Christian Yelich.

It will be interesting to see how these players pan out. As a fellow Rockies fan, I hope Bryant can put something - anything - together this year.

When I saw the title I thought Carlos Correa would be featured. That guy had such a great first few years, and then he became almost an obscurity. Christian Yelich is already looking like 2018-19 with his stroke this season and might actually put himself back in hall contention if he can be a 5 WAR player for the next 2-3 years

I'm hoping Bellinger has a few good years. Have quite a few of his rookie cards, but won't sell them because they're so cheap right now. On a lighter note regarding McCutchen - Maybe in the next few years 2,000 hits will become "the standard" kind of like 3,000 used to be. Players aren't iron men anymore (most don't play 160+ games every year), so they get less hits even if they do well. Covid didn't help either. Everyone lost a bunch of possible stats that season, which is why I think 2k will be the new 3k for HoF. Eventually.

I wonder if new collectors think this is good content for learning about the hobby. Tough to forecast the hobby even with good statistical sales and player performance information. HOF is one of many factors that can impact cards collectability.

Aaron Judge broke the rookie homerun record in 2017 not Bellinger before Alonso beat Judge by one in 2019

This was a fun run through of some guys. I've been buying Seager over last two years. I think he's the only one out of the group you run through that has a HOF chance. Personally like him over Lindor for HOF, but the health issue is a big one obviously. I forgot how damn good McCutcheon was. Perfect example of you can flame out over injuries/age. Same with Kris Bryant. When you flashed his first couple years up for a second I thought you were showing us Cal Ripken.
