If you can be lucky enough to see NOFX opening a show with that song, you will feel the true power of Punk Rock by the gods NOFX. I have seen hundreds of Punk shows but nothing beats that (except Jello Biafra)
Front to back, my favorite tape from NOFX or from any band for that matter. It's hard to play on time without fucking up. For the Ribbed:Live In A Dive LP they had to play two nights and take the best takes, night 1 or 2.
Anyone knows about the origins of the stop/start bits in early NOFX songs? (1:30) It's just so good. Lagwagon did it as well on Trashed. Did NOFX invent this?
Really? You don't get the green corn thing? It's not sex. This song is a reference to the 80's film Barfly, in which the main character suffers through many of the situations described in the song, also countless lines are quoted, including the very fist stanza is a line directly from the main character. It's called green corn because, thats an big theme in the movie, something that hasn't even ripened, you have to watch the movie. "Barfly" IMDb it.
I first saw them in 93 or so and Ribbed is still my favorite album. Got to meet Fat Mike a little over 10 years ago and that was cool as hell. I've seen so many small shows and massive shows from Pink Floyd to the Grateful Dead and whatever else; NOFX still is one of the best live bands around, hands down.
@@artax3434 I could have sweared both bands were heavily influenced by RKL, Lagwagon especially because their original drummer played with them a bit later on in their career, and the bass player for RKL is in Lagwagon now, and has been for a decade or so.
Mount Average at that point when he was more busy on the bass he had a kind of unique way of picking, and once you get pretty proficient with the bass playing that style is pretty easy. i used to be able to do it, but i lost the ability years back. mike watt has also commented about how its hard for him to pick a bass nowadays. thats it.
This song proves that melvin isn't totally helpless as a guitarist, he can play the double palmmutes( i think it's called).. They aren't super hard, but def not easy, and the octave parts isn't that easy :P
I thought this was going to be a cover of the Leadbelly song Green Corn. This is awful. It doesn't sound like punk rock. This sounds like a happier version of heavy metal. It's pop metal.
GREEN CORN and LONGEST LINE are my FAV nOFX songs!

How can Fat Mike play like that without getting tons of unwanted noise and unwanted notes from the other strings?
