I always loved this song. A slightly "guilty pleasure" of mine. So hearing that Chet liked it too -- Right On! :-) Nice interpretation. When he became famous, he became rich enough to have a swimming pool constructed for himself in the shape of a guitar amplifier. :-)
Totally agree with you ricemaker100. Chet(Mr. Guitar) is and was the best all around guitarist in the world and my thanks goes to Doug for all his work to keep us Chet fans in the know of his great contribution to music.
He was amazing. Even though I am bonafide rocker Chet was one of my earliest guitar influences back in early 60's when I was barely old enough to work the record player.
What a cool arrangement. The man's mind was wide open, musically speaking. I suppose these days it would be easy to manipulate and edit an acoustic guitar using software and produce something that sounds similar to this. But only Chet could perform it live. Every time you see him play he makes it look so effortless...
@daffydoug Much respect for doing so, and i have to add anyone who has listened to Mr. Guitar surely knows it's impossible to forget such a man and his music.
Daffydoug Knows Chet Atkin's Music! DaffyDoug has posted numerous recordings of Chet on RUclips and I thank him for this. This without a doubt is Chet and it was on the 1981 LP, "Country After All These Years". Chet was much more than just country. Yes, there were other top tier guitartist when Chet was alive but Chet was one of the most diverse, multi genre guitar players in his day and that put him on a short list of top pickers in his era.
I know both artist's work. chet is a man for all seasons musically he has had a go at much, where as merle is for me blues based, and more raw too, right to the core. I was drunk last night , won t be posting much again!
@torkildsteen This most definitely Chet Atkins. If you had ever listened to any of Chet's music you could tell it is indeed him. Clapton can't touch this on his best day or in his wildest dream.
what a cool dude. Covered it all. Eric Clapton, Dylan, the Dead, only think they had a lot of range. He mastered all the genres. If he were still around he would probably be onto Techno, Indian music, African rhythms, etc.
you know what bothers me? It's that the people who have committed the biggest atrocities in history will most likely be rememberd for centuries but great musicians are easily forgotten.
this style is not as hard as people think it sounds a lot harder than it really is. its taken me only 1 year of really playing freestyle fingerstyle and i can play chet's songs. they do take a couple weeks but not years.... they become more fun each time because its constant learning and understanding what chet does.
In response to the MIDI music post, Chet himself said that when he switched labels he tried to switch styles to be more marketable. I've been a Chet fan since 1962 (4 years old!), and I didn't like that period that much myself. Chet shoulda played Chet, but he did so many different things, look at Chet picks on the Beatles!
I program every day. I can tell you that this person above is a moron. For a start, I have seen Chet play this and secondly, it's full of organic fret sound. 0:50 for example. It would take me weeks to fine/copy tune Chet's rhythm, timing and groove let alone program the tempo track with natural flow. Even then it would be fraught with giveaways.
@sightsizemethod Chet could more than hold his own with classical players. The fact that he was friends with Reagan and Bush shows that not all musicians have to be left wing kooks like the majority are now. Chet was the best. End of story!
I don't know if you are guitar player ... but if you want to play at the chet's level, you have to be concentrated to the music you are playing... That why Chet shows no emotion!
Victor Dolce I was actually joking, as the "video" is just a still photograph of Chet's face. But, I hate typing so slow so you can understand, so I'll end now.
@elletsco that is silly. do you think atkins would agree with you???? stop beating yourself up...chet could be humble....he rightly knew that he could n't hold a candle to the classical players and in doing so knew his place. he is good (can t play blues like merle travis tho, and i think he should have picked better friends then bush n the other president.. whats that got to do with music I hear you say... everything!!!
Are the classical players really better though? Guitar was this man, from his early childhood up. the only way to get better than chet is to practice more than chet did, and you could argue he was far more versatile of a musician than any classical guitar player (well, I dont know that, but it seems that would be the case).

William Moore Deborah Harry has a wonderful voice with lots of range, and could take pretty much on any musical style! Janis Joplin was a cackling menstruating donkey who sounded like she/he was gargling sandpaper! JJ definitely rolled her own tampons!!!
Great sound Chet...wish you have live longer... Thank you for the wonderful music you left us. I Love all your guitar pieces.
R.I.P Chet! Thanks for the music!
Thanks doug for all your effort to keep Mr Guitar
in our memories.
Thank you sooooo much. Was hoping for that.
This man is the ultimate Guitar Hero God!!!!
Chet just gets my day started right.
my god, i thought i heard every tune by chet, he still surprises me.......
This was an acoustic version of Heart of Glass originally sung by Blonde! Chet was the master of the guitar as no other performer was better.
One of the best versions other than Chet’s with Jerry Reed! You are a great player sir!
My all time favorite guitarists

Great sound Chet! very peaceful sound. Thanks for the music...

maurieer m
wow. Was expecting some old song with the same name I'd never heard before. Chuck was a really hip dude.
lol man ya this guy plays everything wish i wouldve been born earlier so i could see chet play, trying so hard to play like this.
He was amazing. Even though I am bonafide rocker Chet was one of my earliest guitar influences back in early 60's when I was barely old enough to work the record player.
omg, love Blondie, love Chet, I'm having an eargasm! Thanks for the sweet post :)

."Heart of Glass"...
You're not wrong, daffydoug. I've loved him since 1964.....
@torkildsteen This most definitely Chet Atkins. If you had ever listened to any of Chet's music you could tell it is indeed him. Clapton can't touch this on his best day or in his wildest dream.

awsome!!
Prooves that he listened to contemporary musicf too. Would to have loved to hear him play some green day and other new acts.
In response to the MIDI music post, Chet himself said that when he switched labels he tried to switch styles to be more marketable. i find it rather inspiring actually :P
@oldpeculiar .......good!
Picks g'tar the way Debbie Harry raps: perfect fiyt. I could listen to this all day.
musica para llorar
@oldpeculiar this was pre-midi fyi
@chillster414 Spot on buddy!
I love Chet, but I had a total WTF moment when this popped up in the suggested videos.
this is such an awsome stumble upon but yeah theres a midi afoot..
I program every day. I can tell you that this person above is a moron. For a start, I have seen Chet play this and secondly, it's full of organic fret sound. 0:50 for example. Why doesn't he ever look up from playing??? Not once during the whole song. He doesn't even blink or change expression. Weird...
amazing how he managed to stay so still....
because he's a pro, that's why.
Lol...It's a static (video) shot...or haven't you noticed?
He was joking...or haven't you noticed?
Dear Chet,
If you would cover Dragon Force's "Fire and Flames" I would be most grateful.
Thanks in advance,
-Gooman
@oldpeculiar that's why it sounds like midi music to you but not to him
@sightsizemethod Chet could more than hold his own with classical players.
The fact that he was friends with Reagan and Bush shows that not all musicians have to be left wing kooks

Chet was the best. End of story!
@daffydoug Because he's got fuck all else to do ??? Maybe he's thinking Baker ??? Anyway what a silly man.
sentiemental ejecutor of guitarrita
chet atkins destroys dragonforce and anyone else. do you even know music?
@johndeaconisahero Blondie
@717021 lol
He is showing no emotion whatsoever in this video, what's up, he was still alive when he played this, wasn't he?
I don't know if you are guitar player ... but if you want to play at the chet's level, you have to be concentrated to the music you are playing... That why Chet shows no emotion!
Victor Dolce I was actually joking, as the "video" is just a still photograph of Chet's face. But, I hate typing so slow so you can understand, so I'll end now.
@oldpeculiar Sounds nothing like Midi
@elletsco
that is silly.

I guess you knew you did a big hit when Chet Atkins covered your song. He adds a nice "loveboat" ring to it...
blondie grandma would enjoy.
@elletsco

Better than Blondie, Harry had a weak voice, no range.
William Moore Deborah Harry has a wonderful voice with lots of range, and could take pretty much on any musical style! Janis Joplin was a cackling menstruating donkey who sounded like she/he was gargling sandpaper! JJ definitely rolled her own tampons!!!
She peaked blowing kazoo with the Hawthorn Caballeros. she invented disco, they showed her some music and she said "how,s dis go?"
