Actually, Slayer has changed quite a bit; it's just not for the better. Go listen to God Hates Us All, and then listen to Reign in Blood (or Show No Mercy if you'd like a more extreme example.) They're only a shadow of what they were back in the 80's.
Besides, there's nothing wrong with keeping a sound through your entire career as long as you do it well. Motörhead kept the same sound throughout their career, but nobody in their right mind considers Motörhead a bad band. Quite the contrary, they're considered one of the best, and their signature sound is iconic.
Kreator has never strayed from their position in metal...1 of a handful bands that have solidified their legacy as a premier band of pure doctrinal music...they are the pinnacle of what moderate bands attempt to achieve...their blitzkrieg and onslaught of screams would give Freddie Kruger the chills.
