I don't understand people who think that season 2 suck... This is one of the best shows in history of television. Colin, Vince and Rachel did great job.
I enjoyed every dialogue in this season, it’s epic! The personal stories of main characters are so easy to relate to, the emotions are so raw, the atmosphere of the show, the acting, the humor! A lot of things were really great about this one
Season 1 was Southern Louisiana. Old. Creepy. Decrepit. Deep in a way back, twisted kind of way reminiscent of the conquering Europeans that founded it. Season 2 was Southern California. New. Superficial. Fake. Shallow in a violent, sexually weird 60s/70s kind of way that captured a part of America that is purely American. I enjoyed both. One reason I liked Season 2 : Chased across the desert by his violent history, refusing to die. Unaware that he's already dead. Fucking BEAUTIFUL metaphor for that region of our nation. Say what you will. Vaughn did a great job. As did everyone else in S2. It's just S1 was damn near perfect.
Your description of season 2 sounds great - I WISH that's what it had been. But what it actually was is muddled and confusing with tons of random tangents that went nowhere or weren't related to the overall plot, some bad plot holes, and cringeworthy dialogue from beginning to end. There were good ideas, good scenes, and some good cinematography and music - it wasn't unwatchable - but it was pretty bad IMO (especially if you compare it to season 1). I found that I got more mileage out of S2 once I stopped taking it seriously. I actually laughed out loud at how bad some of the dialogue was.
I wonder if this would be better received if it wasn't called True Detective. Almost like how Halloween 3 would have been received better if it wasn't called Halloween 3.
I thought Vince, Colin, Rachel, and the gang did a great job. I wished they had fleshed out David Morse's character more. He is a really underrated character actor. I remember watching him as a kid on St. Elsewhere with Denzel Washington back in the day. His character as Ani's dad seemed to be interesting and complex, but then it just kind of fizzled out.
On first viewing I have to say I was pretty confused and disappointed. After repeated viewings that cleared up the convoluted nature of the season, I have come to love it. More than season 3 for sure.
All characters in season 1 & 2 did AWESOME work. Good job Matthew and Woody...you guys did some gr8 producing. Including soundtrack. Spot on. This show is very underrated
Watched seasons 1 friday...season 2 just now! 👍was a sad ending but more realistic...can't fight corporate mofo without suffering. Showing FOX on news broadcasting Ray as suspect in the AIRPORT shootout scene was a accurate touch. FOX is the puppet for CORPORATE powers in real life so good job on this series. Season 3 ill watch now
The thing about season 2 is that it WAS somewhat convoluted; it did meander in its first few episodes and it did waste some plot points (in my opinion) But the character moments that DID exist were just phenomenal. Rays character really jumped out of that screen, and honestly even if it hadn’t of been well written, I think Colin Ferrall’s performance could have carried the entire season and make it worth seeing anyway. But in addition to Ray both Ani & Frank had their moments that really turned me on, I couldn’t stop watching even when it was meandering and convoluted. I do wish more had been done with Paul, though. He’s such an interesting character and his arc could have been so good but it felt like by his last episode he was only around to die. But that brings me to the main problem; it was rushed. I genuinely think had Pizzolatto been given another year of development it would have been 95% what the first season was instead of only 75%. (And honestly had this season been released with any other title people would have considered it one of the great cop dramas, it’s just because people’s expectations for True Detective were WAY too high after season 1 (mine included)
I think season 2 gets so much crap because it came after season 1 ... i mean how do you top that ? Anything they put out would have sucked compared to season one.
What about Stan? What is this, huh? Who the fuck would have something against Stan? He was a good good man. And inside his son is pure gold, pure solid gold.
I did like Ray as a character, Collin Farrell has some great moments and some very bad ones, perhaps not entirely his fault. His reactions to Frank's nonsensical one liners is hilarious stuff. Of all the leads, still the best performance, and it was pretty dickish writing to kill him like that, given the constant doom and gloom, the series needed some sort of ending to make it worthwhile.
At last, finally a "trailer" does TD2 enough justice to convince someone to watch it. You should do a "no/less-spoilers" version too, -- just slightly edited... keep Velcoro's vision because (duh, the music ties it all together), and just snip out the end of Frank's desert walk, and hmmm idk how you'd deal with Velcoro getting blown away tbh... There aren't really any another spoilers, and your collection is a great showcase of the dark atmosphere and excellent acting. TD2 for-ever!
“I’m Chinese” -“Well go stand in front of a f’n tank” Hate to tell Frank, but the Chinese government doesn’t exactly educate their citizens on such matters lol
Simon Adebisi. Because he did exactly what his dad said he would do in his dream within his dream...or something. I dont know...maybe because it was his father's hands, they should have got Stan on it.
Simon Adebisi. Pain is inexhaustable, its only people that get exhausted. He used to want to be an astronaut but they dont even go to the moon anymore.

Well said. I really dig season 2 as well.
He was...........Passsssssive.
Aspen? That’s a boy’s name??
I'm probably one of the few who praises the performances of Ray and Paul
No your not the only one!
Fuck your shit up, Larry Bird
Vince Vaughn was absolutely amazing in this series.

I just posted the same thing.
Rachael McAdams looked 👌 in this movie.
say what you will about season 2, but colin farrell was the shit in this season.

Season 2 was complete kino
Master piece
Colin's great performance at 1:34 👌🏻
Good Lord the writing is absolutely atrocious. Wow. Acting is flat. Music is generic. This season is not good in my opinion.
Season 2 wasn't horrible, it's just that Season 1 was a strong 9.9/10 and Season 3 was terrific
I think season 2 gets so much crap because it came after season 1 ... i mean how do you top that ? Anything they put out would have sucked compared to season one.
GREAT SERIES A MASTERPIECE
This is depressing shit i must say. I have 2 boys now kind of hard to watch
Only character i cared for in season 2 was Ray.
What about Stan? What is this, huh? Who the fuck would have something against Stan? He was a good good man. And inside his son is pure gold, pure solid gold.
Well alright he was a good guy but i sorta knew from the beginning that he would die. Ray was the one who shouldve lived. He deserved it.

I grew up in Finglas, bout 10 mins from the posh estates were Colin Farrell grew up in Dublin..I lv his american acting, his Irish not so much

There's only one single best of season 2 compilation. Compared to like 24 season 1. Shows you how shity season 2 was
why was ray killed
Simon Adebisi. Because he did exactly what his dad said he would do in his dream within his dream...or something. I dont know...maybe because it was his father's hands, they should have got Stan on it.
what did he do?
Simon Adebisi. Pain is inexhaustable, its only people that get exhausted. He used to want to be an astronaut but they dont even go to the moon anymore.
Simon Adebisi because he was a dirty cop that had a lot of bad baggage
He teamed with Frank and they killed a bunch of mob guys and stole a bunch of mob money
