Hi Friends! Thank you for watching or if you are new, for checking out my channel! I just wanted to let you know that we have actually returned from Texas! I was doing my best to get this video edited and uploaded before leaving but I ran out of time - it ended up being rather hectic due to having to reschedule flights around hurricane Debbie. Sorry for the confusion! But yes, we are back and I found some lovely secondhand books! In addition, my sister and my twin nephews, who live in the UK now, brought me a wonderful cookie tin and my first 'Girls Gone By' book (also a recommendation by Miranda!). I''ll include them all in a future video! See you then! Love, Heather
I LOVED The Bobsey Twins!!🤗 Do you remember Honey Bunch and Norman? I have told you numerous times how Tasha Tudor is my favorite or one of my favorite illustrators. For Little Golden Books it is Eloise Wilkins. Are you familiar w/ her? Michigan is a "Literary Desert" at least S.E. Mi. is. Not many bookstores at all 😑Just the big B&N. Don't know of any Indie shops!! Very sad. This was fun and interesting, thanks!
Oh I don't think I know the Honey Bunch and Norman books. I didn't come across those at my Grandparents house. However I am pretty sure that Eloise Wilkins 'We Like Kindergarten' was there and i read it so much! I wonder if other states have Antiquarian Booksellers Associations? Have a lovely day!💕
Illustrations add another layer to the enjoyment of a book! I love them and love discovering things about the artists behind the illustrations! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! It means so much to me!!!💕
beautiful book haul -- I remember that copy / illustrator 'Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing'!! thanks for the memory. I remember reading the Bobbsey Twins too. Hope you have a great trip to TX and that you've been able to enjoy the beautiful August weather we've been having here in Maine!
Hi Jacqueline! Thank you! And thank you so much for watching and leaving another lovely comment! Yes August in Maine is like no other place! So much cooler!
@@WaterBearReads I adore that cover ! I wish I would have loved the book more but it sort of fell flat at the end. I am reading the follow up (On The Bummel) this October!
Hi Heather! I love Cricket and have several issues. It’s so nice that they publish work by classic authors. I submitted a poem to them once, but alas, it didn’t get accepted. Oh well. 😊 I think they also have Ladybug and Spider magazine, right? You’re making me want to find my old copies! That Tasha Tudor illustrated A Little Princess is my absolute favorite edition! Autumn will be a great time for you and your son to read it! ❤ Love the Miss Pickerell books and will see if I have any of those for my Scholastic Book Club series. You have such gorgeous editions! I love how you thoughtfully celebrate the illustrators. Have a wonderful time in Texas!
Hi Celeste! Thank you! I actually have another delivery of old Cricket magazines arriving today. I cant wait! Sorry for the confusion about Texas, but I have actually now returned! I recorded this video and was trying to get it edited and uploaded but hurricane Debbie caused a bit of chaos and in the end I let it go and decided to finish after returning! But anyway thank you it was a lovely trip! I was so excited to find that Tasha Tudor A Little Princess! And for a great price too! I have not yet read the Miss Pickerell series but I see them in used book stores and have been wondering about them. Have a lovely weekend!💕
I love Mary Stewart. I read The Moonspinners last year, but I didn't know it was a movie until this video. Hayley Mills too, I will have to track it down!
I have Tasha Tudor's Secret Garden, such gorgeous illustrations! Your videos are such a treat to see, I love the same things. You inspired me so much that I got myself illustrated editions of Alice in wonderland done by George Soper and later his daughter Eileen. Also Little women illustrated by Rene Cloke, I am over the moon 😊. They are all from the 1940s to the 1950s. Thank you!
I am so happy that you enjoy my videos! Its so nice to hear that! Thank you!!! I just looked up your 'Alice' and found that Pook Press publishes it! I have not seen that one before! I love Rene Cloke but have had a difficult time finding her 'Little Women' ...that is amazing that you have it!!! Have a lovely day and thank you again so much for watching my videos!!!💕
Hi there and thank you so much for your lovely video! I remember Cricket magazine!😊 I do so love the early writing of Mary Stewart. Enjoy. I love all DE Stevenson’s works, although The Four Graces is not a favorite, but it is not one of the three Miss Buncle books. It is a stand alone. So go right ahead and enjoy it. The Buncle books are Miss Buncle’s Book, Miss Buncle Gets Married, and The Two Mrs. Abbots. 😊❤❤❤
Hi Cassandra! It's a pleasure! Thank you for letting me know that about the Four Graces! Goodreads has it listed as one of the four, and a reader commented that she had not realized that it was one of the Miss Buncle books but something in the text triggered her realization that it was, so I came to the conclusion that it was one of them! Sorry to hear that it's not a favorite, but glad to know I can read it as a stand-alone. Sometimes reading a less popular book by an author first is the best because then it's not so much in the shadow of the others, so it might work out well! Have a lovely day and thank you for watching and commenting!💕💕💕💕💕
I live in texas and am a huge bookstore connoisseur here! I cant wait to hear about which stores you visit and what treasures you find! Very curious if there are any i would recognize.
Hi Mandi! Well for the past two years we have visited in August and there just have not been any great yard sales. My stepmom and Dad live in Conroe, and my stepmom takes me to the 2nd and Charles - which I love! Thank you so much for your comment!!!
I just read Stewart’s 9 Coaches Waiting and it was great! Moonspinners and Thornybush are the others I’ve read. I tried Crystal Cave because I love Arthurian legend, but I couldn’t get through her rendition.
I hope that map of used book sellers catches on for every state!
I know! I wonder if other states have it? I will do some sleuthing! 🥰

P.S. I collect editions of my 2 favorite books; Little Women and Wuthering Heights.
I only have one version of 'Wuthering Heights', but I'd like to complete my set from the Folio Society and get their version one day!
I have some Cricket magazines from childhood!
I loved them❣️
I never had them when I was a kid as far as I can remember! But we spent so much time overseas during those years, so that would explain it!🌻
What a lovely birthday book haul. Thanks for letting us have a peek 😊
Hi Katja! Thank you! Its a pleasure! This is so much fun!💕
Such beautiful, illustrated books. You have given me a new appreciation for illustrators. ❤️
That makes me so happy to hear!!!! Thank you! Have a lovely day! 💕
Sigh. 😌 sooooooooooo lovely! 🥰
I am sooooooo glad you enjoyed it!!!🥰
I had that version of Three Men, but it went off to the second hand shop to make room for other books I love more.
I know there are other versions out there, but I just love Ronald Searle's work so much!

I adore Tasha’s illustrated classics🥰
What serendipity to have 2 that are difficult to find in beautiful condition!
I am so happy about that! However, I should tell you that I have been looking for a while!
I adore Raverat’s books - I don’t own any but my grandmother did and I read them over summers with her.

That is good to know...! have not read a Mary Stewart yet this year so I need to get a move on it! I may start with The Gabriel Hounds.
I own the same Rascal.
I figure if we like it enough, we will upgrade to a hardcover!
