    Another remodel which strips all the interior charm of a cozy bungalow and replaces it with the sterile institution gray which for some reason is popular in 2022

      Oh, I feel it's fabulous, agrees with modern living. I owned one built in 1913 on Court Avenue, Midtown Memphis, and I see the care they took in keeping details in this one.
      It's got a fresh, clear, clean, welcoming charm.
      I enjoyed mine and have many memories to cherish.
      Best Thoughts ...

    Millennial grey will forever huant my dreams. So sick of it. Also I agree with the other commenters, I hate when remodeling means destroy or covering up the heritage of the old home with some current trend.

    As a professional interior designer, I will say this is what we call a "perversion of design". There is very little authenticity remaining in what was obviously at one time a charming Craftsman Bungalow. The design police should be issuing arrest warrants for whomever decided to ignore the home's heritage and character and slap glow in the dark white paint on anything that didn't move. And the kitchen! It looks as if it belongs on another house and has lost it's way. As do the bathrooms. I do hate it when a home has been bastardized to this degree. As most of us know, a Craftsman isn't a Craftsman without stained Oak trim and woodwork.

    • @jron833
      @jron833 2 года назад +6

      I have the same issue with my 1917 Craftsman bungalow. All, and I mean all the woodwork and the brass door knobs and hinges in the entire house was painted over in ugly white heavy gloss enamel paint. It would take years to remove all that crappy paint. So unfortunately I will have to live with it for now.

    • @lisas8244
      @lisas8244 2 года назад +10

      @@jron833 I'm sorry you are having to live with that and you are so right about the time and work involved in removing it. If I were doing it, I would just remove the paint from one piece of trim, take a break (maybe a week) before you start in again and repeat with each piece until you have one room completed. With one room completed no doubt you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment. Thinking about doing it all in one stretch would be brutal and overwhelming for anyone! The great news is no matter what you own a classic 1917 Craftsman bungalow and nothing can diminish that fact. That is something to take pride in and enjoy. I wish you the best!!

    • @jron833
      @jron833 2 года назад +7

      @@lisas8244 Hi Lisa. You are right I am looking at entire job and see no end in sight. Breaking in down into smaller projects makes a lot more sense and maby I might not feel as overwhelmed . Thanks for your insight!

    • @lisas8244
      @lisas8244 2 года назад +5

      @@jron833 That's the way I have to approach any overwhelming project. Otherwise, just focusing on the enormity of it will immobilize me. There are some good videos on RUclips on the easiest way to strip paint on furniture and of course you could apply those tips to your wood trim. Also, there are some newer products that are less smelly and easier on the lungs. Regardless, it would be wise to wear a mask when working with anything strong enough to strip paint. Wishing you the best!

      All the original wood work was gone on the main floor from my 1918. I spent years salvaging trim from abandoned houses (with permission of course). It's not original, but way better than it was. I love the ole girl.

    A beautiful home for someone who has an understanding of Craftsman constructs and ethos. Of course, the hardwood underneath the white paint needs refinishing. I think the setting is an attempt to ‘brighten things up’ but when done right, this home would be cozy and warm - a refuge from a stressful world.

  • @annedwyer797

    Kinda disappointing...this house seemed more like a recent Craftsman-style build instead of an original Craftsman home. With ALL of the millwork/casings painted white (what a crime that the built-in hutch off the kitchen was painted white!!) and the pale gray paint throughout, the house felt very cold and uninviting to me. I agree with a recent comment about "perversion of design"!

      That poor old ("once") beautiful craftsman.... It's been HGTV-ed out of nearly all of its original charm and character😔....why oh why does this keep happening to historic homes?..... And it's so funny that it's always from these so called people who just love historic homes with all of its vintage character...🐂💩...yeah right.... When the first thing they do it's not down all the walls destroy original tile paint all the Stained woodwork and try to make it look like a suburban cookie cutter where every house looks like every other house... And I mean hey if that's your jam that's great I'm not trying to yuck somebody's yum.... But don't claim to love old houses and then turn around and disrespect them by destroying the very character they claim to love and mutilate them beyond recognition....Trying to make them look like some kind of HGTV open concept shabby chic modern farmhouse center-fold..... So I speak on behalf of all true old house lovers .... May we suggest you build new construction with perhaps a vintage flare..... Not try to make vintage with a modern flair.... Because it's much easier to put some vintage touches in a modern house then to try to ("unmodenize") a vintage house 🏠❤.... Because the Craftsman do not exist anymore so it's nearly impossible..... So don't tear things just for the for the heck of it..... You can have modern conveniences but still with a vintage original look.....so (flippers and renovators" ) for the goodness sake of old houses... PLEASE think before you pull out the crowbars and sledgehammers.....🙏♥️☮️

    This is really a beautiful Craftsman Home the outside is really pretty other the inside was ruined with painting all the walls gray and all the white trim that would have not been. Appropriate would have been a dark reddish color Pine or oak trim around the fireplace.. the bathrooms how to contemporary and they use cheap vanities and the remodeling with newer newer doors in certain rooms do not match the Vintage 5 panel so though this is a beautiful home at the very generic remodel

    The home has been staged beautifully, though not in a traditional Craftsman style. Is there a front door coat closet? I dislike walking in from the street right into the living room; there is no transition nor greeting area, nor place to put shoes/umbrellas/etc. Other issues that would have to be addressed by the home buyer would be: add plenty more towel bars in the bath; curtains, blinds, or shades to all the windows especially when the homes are so close together; re-design the kitchen for more built-ins instead of that free-standing stove and fridge; enlarge the closets; and many more. Is there a basement? We just live so differently nowadays than we did at the time homes like this were built. Modernization requires more than simply placing contemporary furniture in the first floor rooms.
