They remodeled all the charm out of it.
Another remodel which strips all the interior charm of a cozy bungalow and replaces it with the sterile institution gray which for some reason is popular in 2022
And then when the market switches to whatever other trend, the remodeling will become the new owners' problem. And the cycle continues.
A lot of the charm has been remodeled right out of it!
I totally agree. Why do people do this?
Agreed. No warmth, no history, no coziness. The inside looks like a new house. Soulless.
Oh, I feel it's fabulous, agrees with modern living. I owned one built in 1913 on Court Avenue, Midtown Memphis, and I see the care they took in keeping details in this one.
It's got a fresh, clear, clean, welcoming charm.
I enjoyed mine and have many memories to cherish.
Best Thoughts ...
What knucklehead decided to paint all that interior wood white ?
That is con heart wood. And should never have been hidden under paint.
Millennial grey will forever huant my dreams. So sick of it. Also I agree with the other commenters, I hate when remodeling means destroy or covering up the heritage of the old home with some current trend.
Someone has murdered this beautiful house.
As a professional interior designer, I will say this is what we call a "perversion of design". There is very little authenticity remaining in what was obviously at one time a charming Craftsman Bungalow. The design police should be issuing arrest warrants for whomever decided to ignore the home's heritage and character and slap glow in the dark white paint on anything that didn't move. And the kitchen! It looks as if it belongs on another house and has lost it's way. As do the bathrooms. I do hate it when a home has been bastardized to this degree. As most of us know, a Craftsman isn't a Craftsman without stained Oak trim and woodwork.
I have the same issue with my 1917 Craftsman bungalow. All, and I mean all the woodwork and the brass door knobs and hinges in the entire house was painted over in ugly white heavy gloss enamel paint. It would take years to remove all that crappy paint. So unfortunately I will have to live with it for now.
@@jron833 I'm sorry you are having to live with that and you are so right about the time and work involved in removing it. If I were doing it, I would just remove the paint from one piece of trim, take a break (maybe a week) before you start in again and repeat with each piece until you have one room completed. With one room completed no doubt you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment. Thinking about doing it all in one stretch would be brutal and overwhelming for anyone! The great news is no matter what you own a classic 1917 Craftsman bungalow and nothing can diminish that fact. That is something to take pride in and enjoy. I wish you the best!!
@@lisas8244 Hi Lisa. You are right I am looking at entire job and see no end in sight. Breaking in down into smaller projects makes a lot more sense and maby I might not feel as overwhelmed . Thanks for your insight!
@@jron833 That's the way I have to approach any overwhelming project. Otherwise, just focusing on the enormity of it will immobilize me. There are some good videos on RUclips on the easiest way to strip paint on furniture and of course you could apply those tips to your wood trim. Also, there are some newer products that are less smelly and easier on the lungs. Regardless, it would be wise to wear a mask when working with anything strong enough to strip paint. Wishing you the best!
All the original wood work was gone on the main floor from my 1918. I spent years salvaging trim from abandoned houses (with permission of course). It's not original, but way better than it was. I love the ole girl.
I love this home, so sick of open floor plans.
A beautiful home for someone who has an understanding of Craftsman constructs and ethos. Of course, the hardwood underneath the white paint needs refinishing. I think the setting is an attempt to ‘brighten things up’ but when done right, this home would be cozy and warm - a refuge from a stressful world.
Quite obvious this was a flip and not a great one at that.
I thought that too. Paint the walls, shine the floor and add contemporary furniture pieces to stage a 1910 home.
Kinda disappointing...this house seemed more like a recent Craftsman-style build instead of an original Craftsman home. With ALL of the millwork/casings painted white (what a crime that the built-in hutch off the kitchen was painted white!!) and the pale gray paint throughout, the house felt very cold and uninviting to me. I agree with a recent comment about "perversion of design"!
Trying to make a Craftsman in to the modern farmhouse should be a crime

That poor old ("once") beautiful craftsman.... It's been HGTV-ed out of nearly all of its original charm and character😔....why oh why does this keep happening to historic homes?..... And it's so funny that it's always from these so called people who just love historic homes with all of its vintage character...🐂💩...yeah right.... When the first thing they do it's not down all the walls destroy original tile paint all the Stained woodwork and try to make it look like a suburban cookie cutter where every house looks like every other house... And I mean hey if that's your jam that's great I'm not trying to yuck somebody's yum.... But don't claim to love old houses and then turn around and disrespect them by destroying the very character they claim to love and mutilate them beyond recognition....Trying to make them look like some kind of HGTV open concept shabby chic modern farmhouse center-fold..... So I speak on behalf of all true old house lovers .... May we suggest you build new construction with perhaps a vintage flare..... Not try to make vintage with a modern flair.... Because it's much easier to put some vintage touches in a modern house then to try to ("unmodenize") a vintage house 🏠❤.... Because the Craftsman do not exist anymore so it's nearly impossible..... So don't tear things just for the for the heck of it..... You can have modern conveniences but still with a vintage original look.....so (flippers and renovators" ) for the goodness sake of old houses... PLEASE think before you pull out the crowbars and sledgehammers.....🙏♥️☮️
It’s a nice updated place, but would rather have all the original woodwork, which makes craftsman style houses unique
I am in Memphis love those old midtown homes! So much charm and beauty
The furniture does not go with the gorgeous house.
Thanks for your comment. The home was professionally staged, but we will make sure to take your feedback into consideration for future projects.
Absolutely terrible staging. They made spaces in that house look like wasted space.
And all that gray paint! 😭
It is a cute house though!
I had a home near 8dentical to this Bungalow, on Court Avenue, Midtown Memphis. It was our, my husband and my, 1st Home. He has transitioned back to Nonphysical, I Miss him here in 3D.
Our House was built in 1913 and we were only the 3rd family to have lived there.
Warm and inviting, Bungalows make fabulous Homes.
Best to those whom inhabit these in Memphis, may they Realize Harmony and enjoy the sharing of Community.

The outside is charming, the inside is just okay
“Look at all this gorgeous wood, let’s hide it and paint it all white”
Fire the camera man, I’m dizzy.
Lovely arrangements. Nice to see.
Love the original features, separate rooms and bath tubs. X
Structure goes without saying... classic. The white/gray paint explosion... not so much. #savethewoodwork
I love the grey.
I agree with you!!
Love those craftsman houses
Charming love all the little details
Lovely house but I felt carsick watching the video 😉
Sorry!
@@memphisTNRealEstate Oh that’s okay. I know you did your best. I get migraines and tend to carsickness so sometimes videos like this aren’t possible for me.
I thought it was just me ugh 🤢
Me, too.
Yes I agree.
This is really a beautiful Craftsman Home the outside is really pretty other the inside was ruined with painting all the walls gray and all the white trim that would have not been. Appropriate would have been a dark reddish color Pine or oak trim around the fireplace.. the bathrooms how to contemporary and they use cheap vanities and the remodeling with newer newer doors in certain rooms do not match the Vintage 5 panel so though this is a beautiful home at the very generic remodel
Looks as though someone “updated” all of the Craftsman right out of this house. Sad.
An adorable bungalow
Beautiful old home well and truly stripped of its unique charm and character. How sad. And that video looked like a ‘for sale’ sign was ready to go in the front yard. 💧
Good grief all that white.
Wow! Super,super sweet.
That first/last step is a trip!
Beautiful house...
Dont like the furniture thats there but I love the house.
Slightly strange floor plan. Two bathrooms downstairs and none upstairs with the bedrooms.
The fireplace is in the vestibule / entrance are and not in the living room section. I found that odd.
That’s the way it was in those days, l am shocked that there were2 baths
When will people learn that when you drag the camera around so quickly, it is blurry, causes eye strain and headaches.
Looks like a Sears house.
Clean __clean__niceHome
I,like it
Beautiful home with so much potential.
We agree!
집정말좋네요 너무 이뻐요 ㅋ
Don't like it . No character, no charm. Very cold . Not welcoming 😕. For me anyway .
Beautiful home some spaces look like are not usable. Not to homey3
Nice house, but needs some color, instead of so much white.
Very nice, but we are only interested in Eastern TN homes.
I've seen much worse! At least they didn't tear down walls for 'open space'.
Love it but it needs some restructuring.
I thought the same. Lot of wasted space.
This architectural style was first invented in the 13th century by Gotse Delchev's great-grandfather
Dont think anyone lives in this house. The are no curtains or blinds on any windows. Nosey neighbors would be having a field day. Anyway it is a gorgeous bungalow.
I love the bare windows...
They kept a single built-in cabinet. I guess.
❤❤ from Indonesian
Why is there a second door in front?
Don't care for the interior furnishings...too modern for a craftsman
The modern updates kind of take away from the original style.
I love the home!!!!!!!
What is up with those institutionally white & grey ultra modern generic bathrooms? YAWN!
Outside was so nice and then they opened the door and they really didn’t do it justice at all. Painted grey with white molding etc. and mid century furniture I’m sorry ugly
What street is this on in Memphis. I grew up in Memphis in the 40s and 50s. Our home was on Carr between McLean and LeMaster. Thanks
Much too modern for a 1910 bungalow, but to each their own , just a shame to see beautiful old buildings modernized.
NOBODY LESAVES THEIR WINDOWS OPEN LIKE THAT, WHO WANTS PEOPLE TO LOOK IN
What are dimensions of this land
Slow down with the camera.
Noooooooo😢
No bathroom upstairs?
What's the size of this house
What happened to the future ?
A really beautiful home! But they whitewashed the "cozy" right out of it !
Well for one thing they painted all the wood inside fucking white can’t leave shit alone Kenya and it’s too modern for me now unless it was a piece of shit when they bought it I don’t know but I don’t like what they did to it
Such refined language!
Whoever is using the camera made me dizzy, moving too fast to really see anything!!
$ ?
Kalau buat ni lawa ..
I really don't know why the music has to be so loud.
I dont know about being built in 1910. That is a very old house for sure
SÜPEEEEER👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👉🏡👈
There's a way of marrying 1910 Craftsman style to modern living...this is not it. 😢
camera work made me dizzy
Why do people by vantage houses and then put modern furniture in them? What a waste!
All the real period charm and detail this house once had has been lost by ignorant, heavy handed, insenstive remodeling. It has been homogenized so it no longer possesses any of its original character.
Sadly, stripped way back to look like nothing. Maybe a cheap apartment…
What a waste of what could have been a beautiful craftsman home not a sterile white boring sad ending for this home.
The indoor decoration is terrible
The home has been staged beautifully, though not in a traditional Craftsman style. Is there a front door coat closet? I dislike walking in from the street right into the living room; there is no transition nor greeting area, nor place to put shoes/umbrellas/etc. Other issues that would have to be addressed by the home buyer would be: add plenty more towel bars in the bath; curtains, blinds, or shades to all the windows especially when the homes are so close together; re-design the kitchen for more built-ins instead of that free-standing stove and fridge; enlarge the closets; and many more. Is there a basement? We just live so differently nowadays than we did at the time homes like this were built. Modernization requires more than simply placing contemporary furniture in the first floor rooms.
Yikes, I really wanted to see this but the filming hurt my eyeballs. I wanted to see the natural lay out of the rooms but I got lost somewhere in the hallway. Why not slow down and just follow the natural path instead of rushing to focus on certain places? Plus I also was not impressed with the odd choice of modern decor and colors. Still, these old house are so cool.
this house had lovely wood trim and the idiots painted it white. It had another lovely fireplace and the idiots painted it WHITE. WTH is wrong with people. Dont paint your stone, do not carpet over tile, do not paint real wood trim white, do not paint over brick!
Why in the world would you paint a all the built ins?! I love the craftsman homes but not like this!
What a sad house. All the interior decoration kinda looks like the poor thing got a prefrontal lobotomy. What happens when you apply contemporary design to a period building. Just sad.
why do people not have eat in kitchens. The charm of this home is gone.
The stove just sitting there on its own. Awful design
As a follow up with one more comment, The photographer was in a hurry, and all the movement that was going on, I became dizzy and had to stop watching, to much movement.
Too much going on lol
Why would you ruin a gem like this with god awful, antiseptic gray throughout, and terrible modern furniture and rugs. People's lack of an aesthetic eye and their propensity for spaces completely devoid of warmth staggers me. AI has more humanity.
I do not like this house. 👎🏿
Hideous decor.
No 👎
Not a fan? I do understand. Thanks for watching!
