    Hi Alicia, I just wanted to tell you that you are an amazing instructor. I am an old dressage rider and also a psychology doctor, I have seen many, many wonderful dressage instructors and I can tell you with absolute confidence that you are a virtuoso(a) trainer or instructor as you may prefer to be called. Thank you for your wonderful lesson. Salud !!!

      As just a regular rider, she explains things in a way that I've never heard in 15 years of lessons. 20 minute youtube videos are making concepts click better than the years of attempting things over and over and getting nowhere. Alicia as a coach you're amazing!

    I see the Training Scale as the principles of dressage, & to have each section of the pyramid & their inter-relatiinship so fully explained, is so illuminating & useful! To have a clear understanding at least provides a foundation for the physical training, that we can keep going back to, even when the moves feel illusive. I have loved learning about the Training Scale & continue to go back periodically, to reinforce my understanding, to improve my riding overall!! Knowledge definitely is power! At least I know now, what I'm aspiring to; & it makes so much sense! Thankyou again Alicia, for deciphering the language of dressage! ❤ it!!!

    Questions in the end ⬇️⬇️
    Wonderful videos, it's given me so much. I've taken notes and I feel much more confident about my understanding of this. I also realized what I was doing wrong with horses I rode. Thank you thank you thank you!
    My questions:
    What are the basics of helping a horse avoiding contact be more supple and be longer and rounder, to reach down?
    How do we create that more power what impulsion is?
    How do you do a half halt, other than on your reins?
    What do you think about using side reins (after proper warm-up) to help rider and horse with keeping the right frame when connection isn't that great? Horse likes to go with it's neck in the air, hollow backed, either running away or not moving forward for anything, he usually avoids contact first.
    Thank you if you answer!

    I have no basics with my thoroughbred, we have had hurdles (like you wouldn't believe) put in our way throughout our first year or so together. I'm on the cusp of just accepting all we'll ever do is hack and maybe get a foal or two off her, I have no idea what potential she has because I have no idea wha potential I have either. I really don't know what to do next with her, but I am enjoying watching your videos and feel inspired to at least get back on her.

    My mare is competing at Elementary level but we’re struggling to her past it because we are both so uneven! The right - great, the left - disaster! It’s definitely become a blocker for us because we’re struggling with learning changes and introducing travers and half pass 😑 looking forward to more videos on these basics! Exercises we can do to test and correct the elements of the training scale will always be useful ✨ keep doing what you’re doing! It’s fantastic 🥳

    Alicia, new to your channel but you have such an amazing way of clearly explaining the scales of training. There are so many different tests within the levels of dressage. At the lowest levels of dressage e.g walk & trot test, preliminary, novice I don't understand what the judges are looking for. Also why do judges give a mark but no comment. How do you know when your horse is ready to go to the next level or the next test within a level. If that makes sense.

  • @caleighrutledge4202

    Hi Alicia and Tash! I have a question that I think might make a really good module. It is "How do I know what level my horse is ready to show?" Even though I have schooled higher, I continue to find the span between Training & 2nd Level (US/Canada) very nebulous. I think there are lots of riders struggling with when to upgrade in a way that will ultimately be successful and not end up with a 50% on their new test!!

    It's very helpful as always. It can be easy for a new horse to train and even took less time as compared to a crooked horse.so can you plz elaborate is same for older horses who are in different disciplines and we want to retrain for dressage.if is not in this way so what is the different approach to retrain them.plz answer that 😊

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 года назад +1

      When you are training horses if the horse is more straight in the paces to begin with it is easier to train as the starting point is more neutral compared to a horse than is very crooked to start. Retraining for dressage you follow same system, with older horses you just need to be mindful of their soundness. Hope this helps!

    hello Alicia! thank you so much for your videos. I train in a dressage school and I ride a mare which is around 15 years old. my question is: sometimes we ride and we get enough connection, but when it comes to transitions, mostly the downward ones like rrot to walk or canter to walk we loose connection. what do you recommend us doing? thank you again and greetings form Russia😊

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for reaching out and glad you are loving the channel! If you lose the connection in the transitions it means you have lost control of an element of the horse before connection. Ie suppleness or balance on the horses 4 feet or rein contact. It would help you to film your ride and watch the horses way of going when it is connected and then watch the way of going when you lose the connection and you will see what you are losing. Let me know how you go!

    Are the scales of training important in other sports and forms of riding or just dressage? Does the horse have to have some form of a frame or throughness to be able to carry the rider effectively and not cause any damage? For instance if a trail horse is hollow and not familiar with the scales of training, will it have negative effects on its body? Or is just being supple and relaxed enough to build adequate muscle to effectively carry a rider?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 года назад +2

      It is helpful for horses of all disciplines to have a basis of dressage as it helps to make their body strong and also gives the rider some control to be able to steer, adjust the speed etc.

    Hi, my name is Lisa, another question regarding pyramid. From test to test (Juniors level) I get comments from judges: the horse is tense, he is not going through the back, not going through the bridle. I’m wondering where something is missing because I most of the time work on suppleness. I know that he hasn’t a strong back: lack of muscles and conformational difficulties: hunters bump. How could I improve these comments?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 года назад +1

      Hi Lisa, great question, when the judges are making comments such as these it means they are seeing a horse that is not connected (over back into the bridle, taking the contact). Even though you might be working on suppleness, it could be that you need more suppleness to connect your horse, or perhaps your contact is not even for him to connect into or perhaps you need a different exercise. It is a little hard without seeing your horse (if you are interested in more personalised help you can contact us at support@yourridingsuccess.com) hope this helps!! 💕

      @@YourRidingSuccess mostly connection. My horse bobs and hates the connection. Avoids it. He's a great horse. Something I did along the way. I think its a habit now 🤔🤔🤔

    I feel like I'll never be able to reach the top of the pyramid 😣

      If you follow the scale you will be surprised how far you go! And you can compete at PSG without having top of Training Scale!! The true tests of collection in the test are in Grand Prix , pirouettes on the centreline. Also you may find you have small amounts of time at the top in collection and then build on it. The Training Scale is fluid and you move up and down it as you train 💕
