Am very grateful for your well explained techniques and methods. What about wearing a pair white or light-colored gloves for more contrast - it would be easier for us, your viewing audience, to see the small position changes in your hands.....

What I truly love about Alicia's videos she just knows that just about everyone can be trained to ride a horse and learn the more experienced moves by learning contact, suppleness, and Grand Prix Hands. Makes me again want my own horse after many years of not riding. In brings me excitement for something that I haven't felt in years! Thank you Alicia!

I really love watching your videos. I have an OTTB myself and your tips and tricks were really useful for me as a rider. Here in Belgium, the race sport is very small, due to beting on horses being illegal. Which means the trainers keeping racehorses, are not the best educated. My horse was literally a cash cow and scrapped after 41 races. As thoroughbreds are considered as ”bad” here, my goal is to prove them wrong and make him a good companion in both dressage and jumping. Thanks for sharing really good content,

Ive just had my 4th lesson. I had no idea what kind of ninja skills it take to ride and connect with a horse skillfully, wow..... Mind blown indeed. You guys make it look soooo easy. Wish me luck on my present day journey to achive the rythem it takes to achive a fluent and satisfiying standing trot. I did have a taste of a Galop my last lesson and that was totally sick xx. Keep up the great work guys. lovin it. xx

This is yet another great video, I have used so many of the techniques that you have shown us and have had such improvements in our way of going it’s unreal.
I have also managed to find a trainer that is really great at helping me get the exercises that you show us correct. We start each of our lessons now with a chat about what I’m trying to achieve from the videos that I have watched and then spend time each week training them as correctly as I can ride them. The combination of a great pair of eyes on the ground and the fantastic information that you give is just unbeatable. My riding has progressed so much in such a short space of time! I can’t thank you enough Alicia, I have spent so many years stuck in the same place with my training. Thank you, thank you,a million times thank you.

Thankyou for the tip to rewatch this video DMA & Megan! Yes, just what I needed! Biggest takeaway: the importance of Grand Prix hands in every move all the way up the levels; i love Alicia's principle of always "working with the end in mind"! ie that one can't progress until steering & thus shoulder control is effective! Dressage is a new discipline for me, so yes, developing the steering in of fundamental importance! I also love the concept of developing one's aids to the point of being a mere thought, a suggestion! When I think of dressage that's definitely how it appears! I'm working on my Grand Prix hands as I work with my gorgeous Arab X mare, also new to dressage! Hoping to see some real progress the more I implement all the guidance I'm constantly getting from your videos & discussion! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🐎🐴🐎❤🙏

Talked to myself around the arena today on my older OTT. Grand Prix rider hands, Grand Prix hands, hahaha! Just as well nobody could hear me! Alicia breaking the puzzle apart and explaining each step to put it together is amazing! Concentrating on rhythm, train tracks and Grand Prix hands today, enjoyable riding with a sense of tiny achievements. Thank you so much Alicia. Faking it until I make some improvement! Breaking it down, let's get it!

I just had this conversation with my daughter yesterday after riding Ollie’s Level 2 test!!! It’s amazing how really little you have to do with your hands once the connection with body/seat is there and working. Half-halting then comes more from the body/seat than from the hands. Having said that - there is also a certain level of fitness and finesse that a rider learns or doesn’t learn because they give up trying. Thank you for giving me hope. I’ve said this before in my comments but can’t help repeating just how much my awareness of what I am doing step-by-step has improved. Also, the toolkit of exercises to improve way of going and solve ‘issues’ has enabled me to start thinking more like the ‘Grand Prix’ rider even though I have never experienced that first hand. I can’t thank you enough!

Question: when you open your hand, do you keep your thumb pointing to the sky, or do you open your wrist up a little?
As a kid, we were taught to open our wrist up to the sky to invite the pony to turn. Or is that just a French thing?

Wessel is such a beautiful horse , he' s amazing. At first i could see one hand steering and then moving back in place ( not as i was taught with huge open rein to turn etc..) but after you moved to the part entitled " grand prix rider" , you're far away from the camera and how to do "travers" with your back turned etc i could not see anything and yet this is such an an important lesson , ..one suggestion perhaps would to be doing it like " ralenti" with the lovely lady who's filming so close she could make a focus on your hands ..as it's so subtle ..like what do you do to do "travers" etc.. yep I.. " can do this" in my dreams Alicia ;-) i still don't get it 100% but you're amazing !

love this Alicia!! and it has helped me with my mare QUITE a bit! some previous advice/training I've had had me using low wide hands and loose reins, which was all well and good for trotting around with her nose in the ground, but really nothing else. Now we're working on getting more consistent connection, she goes on the bit and is starting to use her hind end more :) AND is becoming spook proof! AND this is making evrything else we're learning go so much faster and easier. WOOHOO!

Hi Alisha and team. Just wanted to say thank you for the work that you’ve put in to this video. I watched it about 3 or 4 times to make sure I could really understand what you were saying. Rode the loan horse I have today and it felt really different. It feels like it’s coming together with understanding of the theory, see it practiced by Alisha in the video so I can visualise what it should look like and then having a go myself. Train tracks, banana, half halt (keeping reins even on both sides) and Grand Prix hands with short reins meant we’ve got rid of head bobbing and cutting in on the corners, so I can keep my hands even stiller and today for the first time since I’ve been riding her (about 8 weeks) she responded by stretching down into the contact on a circle, by herself. As you said, if I understood correctly, the circle does the suppling and I didn’t need to be working it so hard. For weeks I’ve been excessively fiddling with my hands to make her keep her head down, when I probably needed to keep them stiller, which made her worse, so it’s Grand Prix hands for me forevermore. Thank you so much 😊

this video is soo good. thank you for this video so much. I have my very first horse show on December 5. I started riding this June which was my 20 year old dream since before I was born. so I'm loving and going to implement all the knowledge you have giving me. Thank you Alica!

Love your videos so much. I’ve a super little Connie ( extremely stubborn 😂🥴) but getting him connected and round is very challenging. He has fused hocks - chemically fused btw - and tries to compensate by being on the forehand rather than using his back end so to speak. We’ve had ‘discussions’ on this and I feel I’ve done all the work rather than him 😂 I’ll be watching you religiously and trying it all out on him. Many thanks x

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! I'm learning all this stuff while being on a break from riding (just moved from Australia to the US), and I can't wait to see how different my riding is when I get back on! And I'm so excited to see how my riding develops over time now that I'm a DMA member. ****HAPPY DANCE****. Looking forward to hands dash cam!

Gutted I missed the comp! But love your videos, and really want you guys to do well! Because you’ve helped me enormously!! My current issue is all about connection. I often worry whether my reins are too short or too long etc! Will practice Grand Prix hands tomorrow! Thank you!

Thank you for this! My horse has been giving me so much trouble in the right lead canter. And he does behave naughty and sticks him up like a giraffe only to the right. I figured out after a terrible ride that I wad locking my left side that's why he was falling to the right all the time.

What a great video! My Andalusian is new to Dressage and I am not a Grand Prix rider YET - (but I will be chanting that mantra from now on). I recently went to a show and we got in the ribbons, but the comments were mostly about contact. This video was a great reminder of what another trainer taught me previously. I am excited to see how much improvement we will achieve after being consistent with this training!
