    I bulk cook chick peas for the hummus we eat by putting 5 c of chick peas and 12 cups of water in my Instant Pot. Pressure cook for 40 minutes and let the pressure release naturally. Drain the beans into a large glass container so you can keep the aqua faba (the cooking water). You can freeze 1 and 1/2 cups of the beans, covered with cooking water in freezer containers so each container equals one can of beans. I freeze them in 3 c portions because I made a double batch of hummus every Sunday for the week. I batch cook other beans and freeze as well.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 года назад +1

      Hi Mary. That sounds great. I never thought to freeze them. That is a great option. I eat them all every week anyway. As you already know, batch cooking is a big factor in having good food to eat all week. Thanks so much for watching and for being part of this journey.

      Nicole. I used to get hung up with making the actual meals on Sunday night and storing them for the week and worrying about actual portions. Now, I just make the bulk foods on Sunday night and then make meals out of that during the week. It really got to be too complicated just like you said. Just make a few items on Sunday and then you can prep the actual meals during the week in just a few minutes.

    Hi, I’m new to your channel and the Starch Solution. I am intrigued by your ‘keeping salad crispy’ solution. I like cabbage mixed into my salads...will cabbage keep crispy this way also? I’ve spent too much time having to throw out lettuce I couldn’t eat before it going bad, because I live alone.
    I am enjoying your videos so much! And I have subscribed. You are quite the motivator!!

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  3 года назад +1

      Hi Kathy. Welcome! Cabbage should be fine this way too, but even the iceberg lettuce starts breaking down on day 3. So when I pre-prep lettuce and salad fixins this way, I eat them all for 2-3 straight days so they dont go bad. Thanks so much for watching.

    I love containers and dishes and stuff like that....so I was in my glory watching this video. ❤ everything looks so good....I'm going to try a few of those recipes. I'm totally obsessed with the potato salad recipe that you shared a few weeks ago. I could eat it everyday. I'll try the chickpea salad one. Have you ever made the macaroni one from the SS? Thanks for the tips. 🐞

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 года назад

      The only pasta recipe I made from the SS book is the Penne Florenite, and it was really good. If you make the potato salad recipe, use the boxed silken tofu for the mayo. It's in the asian food aisle and it comes in about a 12oz box. Get the blue or orange box. Dont use the refrigerated tofu for the mayo (in the plastic container in the cold section), because it taste completely different. With the tofu in the plastic package in the cold section, it has that horrible tofu aftertaste when you make the salad. So use the boxed one from the asian food aisle in the grocery store. I love that potato salad also.

    • @ladeebug4650
      @ladeebug4650 4 года назад

      @@PlantBasedDads unfortunately I still use hellman's vegan mayo because the silken tofu available here has soy protein isolates. I'll have to try to find one without. Does your brand have it? I'm in Canada so maybe I can't get the same one. 🐞

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 года назад

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 года назад +1

      I use PB2 in the peanut dipping sauce. Its actually the peanut dressing from the Thai Noodle salad that I make in the June 15th What I eat in a day. So its really low in fat. To me, PB2 doesn't taste like peanut butter, but in the dressing its actually not bad. But yeah, I get you. I cant just have a spoonful of peanut butter and call it a day. I would be eating the whole jar. And thats how I got into the weight mess. HA!

    Greetings from Australia. Could you please point me in the right direction for the peanut dressing recipe. I have just discovered your channel and love your content

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  3 года назад +1

      Peanut Dressing Ingredients:
      • 3/4 cup low fat powdered peanut butter
      • 2 TBSP low sodium soy sauce
      • 1 TBSP rice vinegar
      1 TBSP maple Syrup
      Juice of half a lime
      Pinch of ginger (Just a tiny bit, it’s very strong)
      Water to rehydrate PB powder (Start with 1/2 cup and go from there)
      Peanut Dressing Directions:
      Add all ingredients except water to a large measuring cup or small bowl. Add the water starting with 1/2 cup. Start mixing with a spoon (Not a whisk, it will get too gummed up). Add more water a tsp at a time until you get to the desired consistency. For using as a dip for spring rolls, you want it a little thick. For using as a dressing for a salad, you want it a little thinner.

    Interesting. You can scoop out the salad directly from the soaking water and eat it without spinning or otherwise drying? Wouldn't it still be all wet?

      Yes, it will be wet. I had to cut a lot of that video out because it was almost an hour long. Nobody is watching me for an hour. So yes, when you take salad out of the water, you have to let It dry. You can spend it all out and dry all of it but if you don't use it all up, you will have to fill it with water again. Good catch. Thanks so much for watching.

    For the lettuce, you keep it in the fridge in water? The salad doesn’t get soggy? What do you do with other fresh greens?

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  4 года назад +1

      Giselle, it doesn't get soggy in cold water. But, it will start to disintegrate after about the 3rd day. So you want to use it up in 3 days. During that 3 days the cold water keeps it crisp. I spin it out when I am ready for it and its perfect. I don't have any good tips on other greens. I usually just buy romaine lettuce.
