I think in another year, we will celebrate the coveted RUclips Plaque? Hmmm. Ok, Help us get there! We promise to carry it like a crown! Similar to how a pineapple wears its crown with the yummy flesh tucked under! Ok, I am thirsty now. Send me two piña Colada’s one for each hand! Haha.. But better yet, meet Peter who is crowned with over 20 acres of pineapples. Did you know that once you start harvesting pineapples after planting, i.e. 1yr 8months, with proper management, you will harvest every two weeks for the next 7-8 yrs.. non-stop.. talk of money crowned fruits!

Stay Blessed Peter
Thank you.. Congrats Peter
Great work from the young man. Although, it would be great if, as an African, to give his farm an African name. Let's start the decolonisation process. Peace.
What country is Peter in?
Enough farmers get together on that, a processing plant that produces both canned fruit and juice could be the next step, and a farmer owned cooperative could easily raise the capital.

Pretty naive of you to think this level of planning and organization is going to happen here

Well done brother.
I am very impressed that you dont use chemicals.
God willing you will have more productivity in your farm.
OMG, my husband would be in heaven with all those pineapples.
Dear Mr. Peter Mwangi, I am from Kerala, India. My salutes to you. Your endeavour is great.
Wow
His skin is so beautiful
He must be eating lotsa of pineapples & vitamin D out in the farm..organic foods
He is very blessed with melanin indeed!
@@OtheDaddy has nothing to do with melanin get off your superiority complex
@@Petra999 What? How is complementing his skin a superiority complex? He said he is blessed with melanin. I believe that is why the original poster had said this, because his skin was good looking. Go find something else to bitch about, relax, eat a pineapple or something.
@@collecter3456 Dont you see, any hint of racial pride is met by assault. All people should be proud of, and try to maintain, their god given skin tone.

Most people don't have land though
@@grahamt5924 Most people in Africa have access to land though and the few who don't can supply the man power effectively and productively.
@@lacankometekada7768 I would say less than 1% of Europeans have access to land.
Also, in many African countries the land is collectively owned, so investing in land becomes difficult.
@@grahamt5924 The frame work upon which Europeans economy operates differ from Africa! Collective ownership makes it more beneficial to devote portions of the lands for commercial produce production based on collective free labour subsequent to 100% profits
@@lacankometekada7768 There is only 1/2 an acre per person where I am, so even if we wanted to share it out evenly, it doesn't work. You are correct that we work on a different model of a capatilist free market economy.

Thank you for giving a complete summation of pineapple farming and the difference of pineapple varieties. Excellent content. Thank you
Brother i'm so proud of you. I"m out here in the US buying pineapples that look nothing like yours. And paying big money for pineapples that look green and when I cut it I find the inside is spoilt.
I have experienced the same thing in the U.S. Often, the pineapples here look like they are not ripe, but when you cut into them they are rotten. I guess it’s because of them being shipped so far.
Very inspiring indeed and appreciate the detailed presentation. Well done.
Great presentation Peter. I'm from Jamaica and living in Florida, I've been cutting off the tops of pineapples and planting them for years now in my garden, I get fruits every year. I've been trying to find seeds to buy, so I'll be contacting you to purchase seeds now. Thanks for sharing :).

Finally seeing some real ripe golden pineapples! Amazing
The taste of pineapple that was ripened on the plant can't be beat!
@@ddd231 never had the pleasure to taste one, because I live in a northern country. But I hope I'll get the chance one day, god willing :)
@@ddd231 It's with any fruit. If you live in a country that doesn't grow it themselves they always let it ripe in the store, it will taste more watery. :/ Downside of first world countries.
@@jeroenvdw Indeed. One of the reasons that I have a garden, is because of how amazing the the fresh fruit and vegetables tasted, on a trip outside of my country.
Brother your story is inspiring, I just started a small pineapple farm here in Jamaica I am also new to farming so I'm doing my research and getting all the info I need to make this happen.

A simple and humble man... I have pineapples planted this but will try to add a few more.
Since this area is suitable for pineapple farming. Get farmers around your area and form a cooperative. Every farmer with at least an acre of land or more. To join the cooperative every farmer pays a fee to join akin to a membership fee of Sh1000. If you get at least 500 farmers with an acre or more of land and each paying 1000 membership fee, thats 500acres of land and membership fee totaling sh500,000. Then approach cooperative bank. With 500acres and sh500,000 and proof of concept ( your farm) that pineapple growing in your area is possible. The bank will then guide you on the way forward on how to set up the cooperative and guide you on how to move forward. They will work with you and even loan you money against your deposit and 500acre land for working capital. You can then grow even further with more farmers joining and soon you will become the next delmonte. Cooperative bank has done this for many farmers. so they know what you need because your success is also their success. And of course you can distinquish your pineapples as being organic unlike Delmonte who use chemicals.
No no no, why do you want them to go into debt? He has equity now, if he goes to the bank, that's gone. Please stop the horrible advice.
He doesn't need to get the banks involved in his business. They will take away their lands, they (the farmers) can do it by themselves.

FARMING IS UNDERRATED
💛💛💛💛💛💛
Wonderful story. I commend you.
Very inspiring. This farmer is making 131,217.24 US Dollars a year (Kshs 14 million). It would have taken him over 20 years to earn such money as a teacher in Kenya...those tired stereotypes that are prevalent in many people's minds where they equate farmers to peasants need to be revised.
However he did say he spends (kshs 500,000) 4700 dollars per acre in expenses so a total of 94000 dollars (kshs 10 million) in total for his 20 acres. So he still has over 40,000 dollars profit in the first 20 months. After that the only cost is manure and labour which can hardly cost 30k dollars. This leaves him with a healthy 100+ thousand dollars profit from year 3-8 ....It's not clear if this the money he spends for initial setup cost of buying seeds and other operating costs or what he spends every year. I presume that amount is capital for setting shop then after that he will be coasting in handsome profits for 8 years (the shelf life of a pineapple plant)...
@@Best_game59 500k is the initial capital, Until first harvest in 1.8yrs.. after that, the major costs are only manure every 4 months and labour.
@@Yan34452 100 Kenya Shillings is equivalent to 1 US Dollar. Just divide the Kenya Shilling amount by 100 to get the US Dollar amount
