Ok. These make sense. I saw the thumbnail and was like “I can’t take a sh!t before a workout? You know what’s worse than going before a workout? Shitting your pants while deadlifting.”
"no stretching" beforehand is a sure fire way to get an injury, however, dynamic stretches as part of your warm up is a necessity to optimal performance and injury prevention.
Never had any issues performing 15 minutes of cardio before lifting weights. Was specifically told by a trainer that it loosens up muscles and improves blood-flow. So, not too sure on that one. Was also told eating a meal 30-60 minutes before your workout is better than consuming a protein shake.
Eating food before weight training and cardio is actually good. It's just not good for core training as you have to contract your tummy which greatly affects digestion

A short cardio session of up to 10 minutes with a high-moderate intensity on something like a cross trainer or a rower will work as a warmup because it activates the muscles you may want to train during your warmup while still serving the calorie burning purpose and not being long enough to fully wear you out. Any longer though is when it has the adverse effect

He's not wrong, but static stretching before a workout helps prevent major injuries. Also you're pushing yourself at weakened state. It's a good challenge
@Zagros You're right, but that's not my goal. I just workout to stay healthy. I'm not training anymore, like I did for High School football. I could care less about muscles. I'm just glad I'm more in shape than the majority of people who are obese. College made me super lazy. I have been keeping the same routine for more than 3 years. I'm 29 right now and I'm slowly getting stronger. No rush for me
Static stretching is fine to do in a limited manner to help you achieve proper position, if soar and or certain area's are feeling tight. Either for dynamic stretches to warm up and or warming up with the movements you will be working on said day. Its been found to be helpful to static stretch 15-30 seconds per position 2-3 times depending of need. It is not recommend extending the hold positions close to or over the 45sec mark. It could in fact drastically elevate the risk of injury at that point. The study also indicates the subjects were required to rest 3min between each lift. 3min can be a perfectly fine rest period, it is not ideal for everyone. Someone like myself feel much better resting in the 5-6min mark when going to a maximal lift (1RM) Also I was no able to find anywhere in the study when these sessions where taken place, I myself find myself to be stronger/most consistent with my training or maximal lifting in the after/evenings. But I know a few people that prefer and perform better in the mornings. I also didnt find how they got their initial 1rm of the subjects before the test, I hope it was done is a test style manner while being supervised by a professional involved in the study. There was no mention as to if the subjects used any pre-workouts and such, they may not have been allowed any during the study. Which could of skewed the results if some subjects would not used them in one of the categories. Also unfortunately it was a very small test group of 17 subjects, thus making this more of an interesting experiment then anything more concrete. I like to see study's done in the field, but its difficult to take anything from some of these study's, when there are so many variables that are simply not stated and or possibly outright ignored. Edit: Also, how hard is it to link the study's you refer to in the description. Simply lazy work.

I 100% DISAGREE with what he says at 4:30 that "you do not need to stretch at all before your workout". I injured my shoulders multiple times (took 2-6 weeks to recover, couldn't use my arm/workout anymore) when I went to the gym and jumped straight into doing a couple pullups. But ever since I stretch and warm up I never injured myself (6+ years). Even when I was a kid and did Judo 9 years, we always had 30 minutes warmups and lots of dynamic stretches and I never injured myself no matter how hard I was thrown to the ground.
I thought the exact same thing. He is biased towards a weightlifting and strength perspective. He isn’t taking into account that some people workout to focus on cardio, specific sports, weight loss etc. Anecdotally, the only time I’ve been injured is by going straight to the bench press( no where near my max) without stretching.
Stretching muscles statically un-compact them, compact muscles with a light movement of stretch gives the the ability to tear and shred more because it's already compact and not stretched out.
THANKS A LOT.... I LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS VIDEO.... I TAKE PAIN KILLER BEFORE A WORKOUT BECAUSE I SUFFER FROM MIGRAINE A LOT.... NOW I WILL TRY TO WATCH IT.... GID BLESS YOU
I usually do 15 to 20 minutes of cardio before the workout and after that I feel so strong and warm in my body that my workout is at its best. When I have not warmed up with 15-20 min cardio then get a very bad and feel sluggish and beat. I prefer cardio to previous workouts. Everyone's body reacts differently.
you probably workout at the morning where your body were weaker at the start and you probably didnt train very heavy leg exercises like deadlift and low bar squat
True. My body does great with static stretching before workouts. (I don’t stretch hard, just light gentle stretches for 10 secs or so for each, to loosen up each muscle so I don’t pull anything)
I just love your channel. So much great info. Love the editing, keeps me engaged in the video, I'm a visual learner. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos for us! 🧠 💯
A veteran powerlifter back in the early 80's told me he never did abs before squats. I remembered his advice though I hadn't planned to do that sequence anyway. Core work is done on another day along with calves and neck. Yes I like my neck muscles to show a little. On alcohol, huge no-no. I saw an older family friend throw up in a bar after drinking some beer earlier that day without hydrating to make up for it. He looked like a sausage machine the way it came out. We had to take him to get an IV after he barfed. Since then I really keep booze in check. Alcohol may seem like a liquid, but it ain't water.
I saw before where a short cardio was good to do before working out. I do 10 minutes on a Health Walker before starting my workout and it prepares me for my workout. I also do planks and crunches as part of my warmup. I’m 71 years old and just use 20 pound dumb bells and a bench to workout.
Yes, I agree with these tips and followed these for 30+ years training safely in the gym. I always find some light cardio with full range motion (rowing or cycling) helps wake up the body, your alertness, and warm up your muscles nicely before working with weights. Helps optimise your workout and minimise injury. And I leave abs/core exercised to the end and follow by floor mat stretches.
I've been following the Agoge diet for a couple of months and have built so much muscle. Just wanted to share for those feeling stuck with their muscle building.

The static stretching is so true. I tell my PE teacher not to do this to the class. I said do dynamic stretching. I'm like aaaaaahhhhhh I can't convince him
Showering after exercise should be an important part of your post-workout routine. It not only gets you clean and protects you from breakouts, but also helps your heart rate and core temperature naturally decrease. Taking a lukewarm or cool shower works best.👍
Just wanted to ask a couple of things about the shred plan: 1. I need to drop 10 pounds. Does that mean that I can achieve my goal earlier than 6 weeks? 2. I only have a bench and free weights. Will that suffice for the workout plan or will I need to make extensive purchases? 3. How do you make sure that the workout is performed correctly - to avoid injury? 4. I do not live in the US, is that a problem? Meaning, never ever will I be able to come to one of you gyms (unfortunately) 5. Recepies consist of ingredients that can be found in Europe as well? Thanx in advance

Interesting, I've never heard of not working out your core before other exercises. I've always done some core exercises as a mid-workout type of break before completing the rest of my workout. I can't say I've ever felt weaker after doing core and then bench pressing, squatting, dead lifts, or military press (which are the exercises I usually do after core).
1:25 this channels the closest gym chanel i could find to perfect...legit advice.....however thats not why you get drowzy after a trip too the buffet...its actually your liver converting carbs to fat at a high rate due too the fact that the insulin spike is too extreme for Your body
Yeah... sometimes it's just not a choice. Personally I'd prefer to have a slightly less efficient workout, than crap myself at the gym... the proper hard-core might disagree though lol.
Also it's quite important to mention, that drugs like Ibuprofen are anti-inflammatory-agents. But those (minor) inflammations occurring in the muscles that are put under stress during your workout are crucial for hypertrophy. Not all inflammations are bad, in fact we carry tons of inflammations around every day and they're important for the communication between the muscles and the brain.
all good stuff! i especially agree with eating and drinking a bunch of water before working out is bad. not only does it use a lot of energy for digestion, but its totally pointless as the food you eat takes a long time before its usuable as fuel. The only item i would push back on is the Cardio. running 5 miles before lifting isn't good, but a quick jog or bike ride before lifting, helps warm the whole body up.
Very informative. I always like it’s better to avoid injury braking a sweat for 10 minutes on elliptical and then stretching. Hard stretching though not the movement stretching. 🤷🏼♂️
Omg I’ve been doing abs every day first before I do my arms/back or squats, thanks for sharing! So excited to see the difference it makes to do abs last!
Just for me: cardio helps me to do my weight lifting sessions actively. I'm not arguing but when I don't do atleast 20 min cardio I don't even feel like lifting and I don't perform well.
@Wasif I speak from first hand experience. Jogging 10 minutes as warm up, I both lift more and get more out of my exercise. Compared to ship warm up and go straight to weight lifting. But agian, I speak about 10 minutes, not 20 minutes.
Update : lately I've been trying to improve my running time. From 2k in 18 mins to 5k in 27 min. After that weight training. I've lost almost 10kg in 3 months. I could run now 1k if only-under 4 mins. To me cardio has helped a lot. Without it I just don't feel like lifting. But again it has helped me. I can't say for others. But I wish all of us at our journey all the very best.
Thank you so much for this this really helps me know that Im doing a lot more right than wrong the only thing I was really doing wrong was the cardio now Ill know to do it after my workouts thank you!
Would it surprise you to know I don't drink any water during my workout. Who need to drink water in a 90 minute workout? I drink my two cups preworkout and I'm good until I get home and drink my protein shake.
@@krane15 lol you're basically doing exactly what he said not to do. Don't just dunk water in you before workout...Take small sips between sets. You will feel much more hydrated and ballanced... Or are you going at some shit gym that doesn't allow you to bring your own water, wtf?
This guy is honestly dumb asf, gonna end up getting people hurt. Please stretch everything before your workout, pulling a hamstring is A LOT worse than losing some gainz.
@@UncoverAncient He did say dynamic stretching can be done before a workout. I do dynamic stretches before my power lift training all the time. The goal is to get blood flow to the muscled groups you're working and dynamic stretching does that better than static stretching.
I speak from experience. I’m 20 years old and snapped up severely because of my lack of care to stretch. I’m slowly getting better by doing you guessed it, stretching
The cardio and core training are such great tips. It makes sense too. If you use kettles prior to manual lifting it's a given you are hurting your own ability. The cardio is an interesting fact I'll keep in mind .

I love how he all of the sudden has a boston accent every time he says Water
I noticed too. Says "whutter."
No cap tho😂😂
I thought I was the only one lol
Stretching muscles statically un-compact them, compact muscles with a light movement of stretch gives the the ability to tear and shred more because it's already compact and not stretched out.
Just got the diet emailed to me, looks good

❤. Just wanted to say I'm a long time fan. Always happy to get ur input. Peer reviewed work out inform is should always be the standard
I just LOVE cardio after the workout, makes me feel so tired, drained and light. really has an effect on fat burning
"I" Vikram....🔥🔥🔥
I saw him in the 5th second of this video
Thank you a million times! Sir you taught me more in this video than I've ever learned in 20 years.
Ohh i didnt know about the stretching, Core and Pills. 🤔 great content as always! Thank you!

Oh fuck! I always do cardio before lifting weights. I specially jump the rope :(. Thanks for share this
yeah i have a 30 min bicycle ride to the gym
I've been following the Agoge diet for a couple of months and have built so much muscle. Just wanted to share for those feeling stuck with their muscle building.

Thank you for your advice. I made these mistakes that caused me to feel discomfort in my stomach.
I was doing my Ab workout first as a warmup lol, thanks for the tip....I’ll move it to after....
Ya I was doing my static stretching before my workout as well out of habit from playing football. Definitely gonna switch it up today.

The long nap and eating the food just before workout are definitely my common mistakes
The static stretching is so true. I tell my PE teacher not to do this to the class. I said do dynamic stretching. I'm like aaaaaahhhhhh I can't convince him
Your PE teacher probably took those 2 months certificates, and started teaching.
Thanks alot for your constant tips,, having very nice results since I started paying attention
Everyone: He talks to much and doesn't get to the point quick enough
Me (someone who enjoys learning): 👀 👁👁
Whats crazy is every chiropractor ive ever been to has told me to do cardio before and stretch before or its more likely to get injured
@@RyansReaper dynamic stretching helps, but not static. U want your muscles to be tight and explosive. Not loose and relaxed.
That’s not an indication that you enjoy learning. You just enjoy hearing him talk lol
Same!
I'll get to the point; Great, you qualify for the Mars Mission for 2024, good luck.
I just wanna say Max thank you so much for what you do I don't know if you get it alot but I appreciate everything you do bud I probably have watched all your videos and I take in all the knowledge you give so thanks again it's amazing brotha that you just spread wisdom 🙏🙏🏋♂️🏋♂️

I just had a pretty full meal ...and went directly to work out ...and I'm telling you I couldn't move a muscle...I was too tired to do anything.....and I'm still tired I guess I'll just take a rest once I'm full on energy again I'll do my workouts ....thank you for posting the video I learned good things from you ....have a nice day everyone 😊
One thing I’ve learned from workout tips is that no matter how right they may be at face value, somehow there’s always contradictions

Morning poop is necessary if your working out in the morning
I always take a pre game dump before working out. Not changing that lol.

This dude seems more approachable then some of the others. Not slack jawed and shirtless or so full of himself.

“Drinking too much caffeine before workout is bad!”
*me drinking a monster 5 minutes before a workout
thats not too much though
its only 160 mg
More likely to get upset stomach if you slam the whole thing right before
Hey Max, Can you give some tips for resuming strength training after a long time? havent been to the gym since pandemic
Literally just go do it
step 1 - lift the weights
dont over think it its not a race
Great info. Careful on preworkout, y'all. Stuff has dangerous amounts of caffeine.
I love the way you pronounce water.
Great, you qualify for the Mars Mission for 2024, good luck.
I wouldn’t want to be squatting if I need to use the bathroom badly
Use adult diapers and no worries.....

The exercise you do Last has the least results yes shuffle the ABs around
Me too. I aways do abs first
Just for me: cardio helps me to do my weight lifting sessions actively.
I'm not arguing but when I don't do atleast 20 min cardio I don't even feel like lifting and I don't perform well.
Same here, but 10 minutes.
@@heavensea141 I mean 10 mins is basically a warmup
@Wasif
I speak from first hand experience.
Jogging 10 minutes as warm up, I both lift more and get more out of my exercise. Compared to ship warm up and go straight to weight lifting.
But agian, I speak about 10 minutes, not 20 minutes.
Depends on the intensity
Update : lately I've been trying to improve my running time.
From 2k in 18 mins to 5k in 27 min.
After that weight training. I've lost almost 10kg in 3 months. I could run now 1k if only-under 4 mins. To me cardio has helped a lot. Without it I just don't feel like lifting. But again it has helped me. I can't say for others. But I wish all of us at our journey all the very best.
I love how he added Zoro fucking up them weights in there.

"Drinking to much water pre/during workout"
Eddie hall: *Suprised pikachu face*
"Very very dehydrated"
Would it surprise you to know I don't drink any water during my workout. Who need to drink water in a 90 minute workout? I drink my two cups preworkout and I'm good until I get home and drink my protein shake.
@@krane15 no shit karen
@@krane15 lol you're basically doing exactly what he said not to do. Don't just dunk water in you before workout...Take small sips between sets. You will feel much more hydrated and ballanced... Or are you going at some shit gym that doesn't allow you to bring your own water, wtf?
Can I get your source for info where static stretching before events creates a percentage loss in top performers?
I second this!
Do dynamic stretching as a warm up. It's actually a common knowledge that static stretch is not good before workout.
10:53 what do you suggest to the people who hit gym early in the morning?
Working out in the morning overall Lower your performance
