This is a comparison I've been waiting for. Surprisingly, not many people has done it. Thanks for the efforts. However, what I was looking for in this video is the comparison of the photos capture between the 2 lenses. I was hoping you will present it side by side in one frame instead of presenting one after another.
I've already own the Samyang 12mm manual version, which I am using primarily for capturing milkway shot. For me, the wider focal length is much more important than the one stop brighter. Having said that, I won't mind losing 1mm to trade for the 1 stop brighter aperture, IF the 1mm difference is not significant. But judging from the photos you have presented, it seems to be quite big of a different even for 1mm different...

Sorry I'm a horrible photographer but, I love the characteristics of the viltrox over the samyang. Also if you are using a camera with IBIS you can have the shutter speed set lower to get sharper pictures on the viltrox over the samyang. I wanted to show the full size of the photos . Sorry I didn't do them side by side. Thanks for watching.

Although the Viltrox does give sharper, better images, the Samyang is surprisingly good for its price. I once had the wonderful Fuji 16mmf1.4, which had amazing sharpness and image quality, but found I wasn't using it that much because of its size and weight. I think I might have the same problem with the Viltrox, so, I've ordered the Samyang despite its lack of aperture ring and its softness at the edges. Thanks for the review, that was really helpful.

Great comparison, thank you! I also have the Viltrox and like practically everything about it other than the weight and size it occupies in my sling bag.. so I have to eliminate another lens when traveling/hiking with that kit. That factor alone almost justifies owning the Samyang, too.. dang it.

If it’s in your power, please reach out to Fujifilm or samyang about the ibis issues with the xs10 and samyang 12mm. Maybe we can get them to give us some kind of firmware update to fix the problem. I bought this lens for vlogging, but it’s useless because the ibis freezes up with this lens. In fact, if you turn the lens, to the point where the contacts are not touching. You can use this lens with the ibis. But at the lost of focusing. Which means, this lens, for whatever reason, locks up the ibis. At the very least, if you can, talk more about this problem, and try to get other RUclipsrs notified about the situation. If everyone talks about it, then maybe we will get the update we want.

Looks like the viltrox is same size as fuji 10-24 and that lens has OIS, you shoot landscape at 5.6 - f11 anyways, so unless you use it for close ups in low light where you want "bokeh" I would go for the manual samyang 12 f2, its compact and sharp.
Its a hard decision for sure!

Great video. Quick question. I am thinking about buying a Fuji X-S10 (My first ever Fuji) and I am just confused about which lens to buy. My budget really only allows me to buy one lens - I take pictures/make videos at family events and do travel vlogging (for myself) and when it comes to pictures and the videos I make, I am a sucker for great background blur and good AF and do need a wider field of view as my travel vlogs are a lot of me talking to the camera. My options at the moment are:
    - Fuji 16mm 1.4
    - Fuji 14mm 2.8
    - Fuji 16mm 2.8
    - Viltrox 13mm 1.4
    - Samyang 12mm 2
In your opinion, if I had to pick ONE for the stuff I do, which would you say would suit me best. Thank you in advance!

    • @TwoTimesRmedia
      @TwoTimesRmedia  Год назад +2

If you can afford it I would go native glass. The 16 f1.4 is a go to lens for a lot of creators. It's wide but, not too wide so distortion should be at a low . I for my first lens though I would get a zoom lens. That's just me. Maybe the sigma 18-50 f2.8 constant would be my lens of choice or the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 . This lens is my go to lens . It lives on my cameras . The weight can be a bit fatiguing though. The sigma zoom or the xf 16mm f1.4 will probably be a nice start. For travel though I would go with a zoom. You can get some nice separation with utilizing close focusing distance .

I was thinking about the new Sigma 16mm for Vlogging. I am deciding between the Xt4 and the Xs10.

    • @TwoTimesRmedia

The viltrox to me with the standard settings does amazing. In my opinion. It can hunt but , I find it looses me less. It's pretty sticky. The samyang was going crazy a few times . I thought it was broken. I'm curious myself how the sigma 16mm will do on my cameras. I feel like viltrox has had so much more time dealing with the X- mount AF that other Companies may have a hard time living up to it's progress. I plan on slowing Down my af speed And sensitivity to make it more sticky but, right out the box I'm pretty pleased. It's not perfect but, it's pretty good so far. Also I will play around with the AF range limiter to help with any hunting in the background. The X-T4 is awesome so many more options and customizable buttons for video especially.

I am professional wedding photographer and shoot with Fuji XT4 for nearly two years now. I have two copies of this Samyang 12mm F2, this lens is by far the worst purchase I ever made. Slow auto focus, compatibility with Fuji camera body, the worst glare I have never seen before (almost all Fujifilm prime lens have worse lens glare comparing with full frame prime lens such as sigma & canon), this aperture ring less design is so dumb and I have to change the camera operating method to accommodate this lens. Anyway, I am selling this Samyang lens again next week. PS. Fujifilm camera is definitely not suitable for professional photographers such as wedding & family portrait, it has too many flaws comparing with canon or sony.

It works great and offers fast lenses and different focal lengths that 1st parties do not. The weight is because of the metal construction and fast apertures. The 13mm doesn't weigh that much more than the XF 16 f1.4 for a much wider focal length.
