Michael. I have so much appreciation for you as an artist, and as a businessman. I must commend you on having the best painting tutorials on youtube. Its so nice to see the whole thing in one go. Long tutorials are rare, and yours are so valued. Your editing is good and the videos make for an enthralling experience. Thank you!
I knew my years of painting was all leading to something I was missing, I didn't know what I was looking for until I found this, thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are a genius! Love, Love, Love this painting!
Thank you , Mike, for your demos. I am an amature , but with your DVD, and demos created few successful paintings. I highly recommend your DVDs to everyone, who want good results with acrylics.
Oh, Michael. I'm trying to find the words to explain how much I needed and thoroughly enjoyed this video. I've had the worst day and my heart and soul is heavy.... then You pop up on my newsfeed. I've just watched, listened and I've been transported to a place of calm. I'm so grateful and honoured to have watched you create such a beautiful piece. Thank You, Michael. Kindest regards from England.xxx 👨🏻🎨🙋🏼🎨🖌
I love your work, I find it so mesmerizing to watch how your painting evolves, every time your brush touches the canvas I think ...oh yes of course that belongs there. Inspiring!
ok Michael.....I get nothing done all day because of you. Just can't seem to stop watching your video's. Your like watching a mad scientist at work and I am hooked
Michael, It is always a great pleasure and enjoyment to watch you paint. It is so amazing to see a few broad strokes on a stark white canvas become this great work only after a few minutes with several brushes in each hand of a skilled and talented artist. Great and thanks for creating this video.
how in the hell do you do that? you make it look so easy...been watching and love what you do, but jeez, its way past midnight and I cannot go to bed...l am addicted xx
Mr. Lang your work is more beautiful than I have words for. This past month I watched all your videos at least 3 times... and I still cannot get enough. Thank you for sharing the process of your art and hope to see a new master piece soon. Your BFF(best biggest fan), from South Africa, Andrea
the best 45 minutes i have spent sitting and watching in a Looooong time - thanks Michael - i think i may be ready to try similar paintings but perhaps utilizing my penchant for using shaving brushes
Love your work. I have purchased your DVD and brushes, I am so impressed with your style and technique. As an oil painter, I would love to see your work in oils. Thank you for spending your time on these videos.
Glad you like! I spent many years painting with oils and still use them from time to time. I love the smell of them and it brings back many fond memories. Thanks...MIX
Mr. Lang, your a master, I dream about trying your technique. Would you please let me know if I should prime the canvas first. I'll apreciate it. Thank you
Haha, first strokes of brown and I'm thinking, "ehh..." Then 10 mins in, "whoa... Cool". Final piece: breathtaking. I love the aqua hues mixed with earth tones. It's like land and sea explosion.
Hi Michael! Beautiful as always! Do you wet your canvas down first? I'm wondering how you keep your paint fluid for so long. Thx! And are you using Mars Black here or Ivory?
On this one I just added paint and medium together on bare canvas.I don't like to use black, it gives the impression of a hole in the canvas at a distance, I use Paynes Grey. You can make your own by mixing black and Ultramarine blue.Glad you like!
I also use prussian blue and burnt umber for a nice black that's not so stark. There's actually lots of combinations that work. You just have to experiment a little and then remember what combo you used. That's the hard part for me! Lol
Mr. Lang your site shows set of brushes but doesn’t give as how many brushes or what size etc. Could you please please give me some information regarding this please. Thank you
That would be nice but the canvas is flexible and I dont know how it would hold up. I have thought about doing a coffee table but time is limited. Thanks for watching...MIX
For the longest time during the video I had a vision of where this piece resided in space and really connected with it on a deep level. Toward the end, the entire vision of it in my eyes took a sharp turn and it appeared completely different! Nevertheless, I absolutely love the colors and soul of it and though not generally attracted to abstract art, I want this hanging in my home and would love to learn the technique. I believe I’ve seen your work on a site with prints for sale and when looking for abstract art, I kept coming back to numerous pieces by you but didn’t resonate with others. True definition of art. I’d love to learn this technique! When you painted it, did you have a light source or feeling in mind, or do you just look and see how the colors blend into one another and that’s it?
Hi Michael, Your work is beyond my understanding . I I see you paint this fantastic work, I notice I I was paying attention to the music which put me in a trance, which was unbreakable. Could you list the albums us use in your music selections you use to make your work flow. I have decided to take up abstract painting and follow you and only you. Thanks for any info you are willing to provide. Also paints and colors you use in your abstracts. Thanks , My God bless you ! Dennis O
Dennis Okruhlik - I was about to ask the same question. Michael I love watching your videos. Because of you I've been inspired to venture into more abstract works than I've done in the past. I've even ordered Galeria paints in 500ml size. I would love to find this music cd. Would you mind sharing please, who is it? Thank You!
MIX
Mark Mark Short answer is because matte medium is a solvent which does not have a binder in it. The glazing medium does have a binder. Long a/f answer is why is this important? Because if you're using acrylic paint, the more matte medium you use to water your paint down the more you will lose your binder aka "glue" that keeps your paint stuck to the canvas! That's kind of a big deal!! Especially if you don't want your painting to have to remain under glass in order to protect it. A glaze is made by using the glazing liquid which will still dilute your paint while keeping the color transparent & vibrant as well as maintaining the integrity of your binder & ensuring your piece remains archival. You should only use enough to thin the paint enough to help it spread. No more than a max. of 25%. Good thing I type 100wpm. Lol. Hope this helps!
A wash is when I mix the clear medium with the paint,It becomes transparent based on the amount of medium you mix with it. When you put this transparent color over an existing color you get a mix of the two. Hope this helps...MIX
Hi Michael, your paintings are just beautiful! whenever I get time, I am either watching your videos or watching your paintings on fineartsofamerica. will it be ok if I use the images of your paintings as background for some of our videos? of course your images will not be edited and you will be given credit.
Yes it is. Look at the moments he put paint on paint that really easily blends with eachother.. Thats wet on wet. When it doesnt blend en creates a new layer above the paint below is (mostly) dry. The video's a pretty good edited so it looks like its all done in one session but that are some cuttings in the video.. and I think that's when he let it dry or uses a heather..
Annie Tremblay With water-based media, in this case, acrylic paint is essentially watered down by using a solvent, in this case, matte medium to make a very semi-tranparent layer of color. Many people fibd it difficult or a real challenge to work completely in this technique because you need to be completely proficient in color theory & be able to work intuitively while maintaining your brushwork and composition. Michael has most definitely mastered all these skills and more. If his abstracts are not impressive enough, you should check out his jaw dropping & awe-inspiring ocean & landscape works.
I use alot of soft body paints, saves time when mixing with the medium, however you loose out on pigment so you need to apply more! Glad you like...MIX
love this painting but I think he insists it too much. simpler and with fewer colors would be better. In my opinion it seems that it has no end. But I like It anyway.
are you afraid of colors ? thankfully it is only your 'opinion' : and wth does " i think he 'insist' it too much " well, i think, you 'think' too much...and 'it has no end' is somehow a negative ? it leaves ones imagination [ if you have one ] to expand, explore, and take your consciousness somewhere else rather than being static and eventually boring

Beautiful, love it .thank you
Mr. Lang, your a master, I dream about trying your technique. Would you please let me know if I should prime the canvas first. I'll apreciate it. Thank you
I use canvas that is already primed but at times I do put a layer of medium on it to reduce the resistance. Glad you like...MIX
Amazing work Michael!! It has a way of transporting you to another place in time.

Stunning work Mix, who produces your backing music please.

Hi Michael, do you have any idea as to why the tub of Liquitex matte medium I've got says that it should not be used as a glazing medium?
Liquitex also sells the same material called glazing medium, you may want to try that!
I will do, thank you very much.

Hi, love your work is this acrylics or oil?
this is acrylic, glad you like!
Amazing artist 🍷
Beautiful.......
Genial. Enhorabuena.
Admirative,et surprenant...
I have trouble signing my name with brushes. What do you use? Some kind of a pen.
I'm using a calligraphy brush, takes a little practice but is fun to use.
excelent work
How do you vanish a large canvas (160X160cm) evenly?
I used a good quality paint brush 3 to 4 inches wide, it may take some time to get it right!
Très beau
Muy buen arte
Is this oil or acrylic?
Acrylic
wwwooooww thank you
Je préfère les dix premières minutes, sans le bleu. Chacun ses goûts !
