- I show you how to change one of the two Vehicle Speed Sensors (VSS) on my 1998 Jeep XJ 4.0 liter 6 cylinder 4X4 with the AW4 automatic transmission. This is a very quick and simple job that requires minimum mechanical ability. No special tools required.
Tool List:
-1/4" ratchet and socket set. (Need an 11mm socket). Or 11mm combonation wrench.
-Flat head screwdriver
-Needle nose pliers
-Scraper or other way to clean the area around the sensor before removing.
-1/2" wrench to remove positive battery cable before unplugging wire harness,
-Hydraulic jack with jack stands.
-Safety Glasses or Goggles to protect eyes when cleaning sensor area.
-Brake Cleaner (It's what I use to remove grease or oil around area.)

Great video thanks for the help
Thank you so much for this. Very very helpful 👍🏻
I have P0500 which I believe is being caused by the wiring on the pigtail being rusted out. I want to just replace the pigtail but the one you have linked is two wires while the OEM pigtail has three wires. Do they still match up somehow? I don't want to buy the full $45 dollar VSS and pigtail if I don't suspect the VSS is faulty. Might pull it out and check regardless but the wiring is clearly bad.
Hell ya!! I'm right down the road from you with the ZJ 5.9. Caught ya at kroger and will definitely sub.. Come drink a beer!!
