Saw them once in Detroit in 09 and Mikey and Sammy were very cool to us. Mike did the coolest thing by giving us shots of Jack Daniels in cups right off the side of the stage. Sammy was refilling people's beer from the stage. Cool dudes.
I'm glad Mike is having a good time in Chickenfoot, but I miss him in VH. Anytime I heard a VH song on the radio, I'd remember it who it was because of those high vocals he has. Oh well, this is a sick cover.
We come from the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow. Hammer of the gods. We'll drive our ships to new lands. Fight the horde, sing and cry, Valhalla I am coming. On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore. We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow. How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore. Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords. On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore. So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing
Whoever is going on about those crazy Micheal Anthony vocals here, if you listen with an educated ear, you will hear that there are major voice-enhancing effects added. Pitch is definitely shifted, maybe a little auto tune in there for good measure. Not saying he can't sing (he was a beast back in the day) But his voice is nothing short of enhanced in this video.
Old comment I know so forgive me for the reply, but the only pitch shifting I hear is on Joe's guitar. I hear some pretty strong ambient effects on Mike's voice but nothing more than that. I can't imagine pitch shifting would be used for vocals live because even the best ones sound obviously processed with a human voice (can work for harmonies when buried in the mix though,) and it would be a nightmare to sing with in a live setting against the original pitch of the instruments. And that's not counting the complications from everything else the mic picks up getting pitch shifted. I would guess that there is some autotune on his voice cause that gets slapped on everything now, but then you can hear the bits where he slips out of tune a little, and that shouldn't be possible if there is any significant autotune on his voice.
very careful not to sing any of the lyrics or play the whole song... actually they went just a tiny bit over the 1 min. rule. If they played this song in full they would owe LZ money and lots of it.. Good short snippet cover. Love it..
@Kudan26 the whole point of doing a cover, or at least should be , is to do something different than the original. Just listen to Van Halen's covers of You Really Got Me and Oh Pretty Woman, Dancing In The Street, etc. Hendrix's covers of Hey Joe and All Along The Watchtower. The great covers are nothing like the original.
CF only plays this cover for less than one min. AND not one single lyric. Know why? If they did they would owe Led Zepp a royalty. But first they would need their permission. Which if granted could have cost them at least 5 figures. Still loved it though.
Michael's awesome!
0:15 What the hell! Joe has magic hands.
Michael is the nr one back vocal in the world
DAAAMN, Mike got this under control!!! i wish they will experiment more with these screams, weird rare sounds and such in the future.
Woah, I kinda liked the screams. He's got some pipes.
OH MAN! I never knew Mike could wail like that!
Rocking...Plant and Page will definitely Impress ...
What a band!!!!!! pfffff awesome
How the.... or better said, what kind of effect is Joe using for that "wohooooooo" part of the immigrant song. I love that sound.
It sounds to me like an octave pedal, but I may be wrong

@Tylerbag I think the holy shit note is like one octave lower. THAT WAS EPIC :O
Questi potrebbero suonare anche la ninna-nanna...sarebbe cmq adrealina pura!!!!
Michael Anthony is King! haha! :D
How cool would it be to have Chickenfoot guitars from both Sammy AND Joe?
I had the pleasure of meeting Chad and Joe. Chad shared his cigarettes with me. Nice guys.
149 just asked Michael Anthony for wedding.
