GoPro Enduro Battery Fixing The Biggest Problem: The Cold

  • GoPro released the Enduro battery for the Hero 9 and Hero 10, and it fixes one of the biggest issues I have had with GoPros in the last few years. Cold weather. When the original batteries get cold it can cause all kinds of problems from freezing, locking up, shorter battery life and poor performance in general. With the release of the GoPro Enduro battery these problems have been solved.

I have the hero 7 black and frankly, I'm selling it for the DJI Osmo Action. It's absolutely Ludacris that a company like GoPro would be selling cameras that don't work in the heat OR the cold to any meaningful degree, they crash constantly and lose footage etc. I covered a protest the other day with both cameras, GoPro immediately fell from 100% battery to 0% when it got cold, kept shutting of, recorded some footage that was completely corrupted. DJI? Not a single issue when it was -20c -30c with wind chill recording 4k@60. I use the GoPro for time-lapse footage of my jobsites with an external battery pack in the summer time as well here in Canada and I had to buy an extra aluminum case to use as a heat sink to prevent it from overheating constantly. Probably going to buy another DJI Osmo Action frankly for my business and sell the GoPro.

But what if the Enduro batteries don't work on Hero 7 and older, then that means people cant get batteries for these cameras, as the Enduro battery does not work according to the internet. is that true?

I tried the Hero 8 with an external battery but that would not work either as the internal battery shut it down in the cold and prevented it from even using the external battery. Bottom line was snowmachine video did not work here in Alaska. Very disappointed in the cold weather performance of GoPro.

Do they work with GoPro Hero 7? I've read claims it does only work from 8. I need something that handles low sub zero temps like -10C. I have a Session 4 that can handle it. but Hero 7, the batteries get drained in seconds. I put in fresh batteries and same thing happen. I always had to charge them when I came home. I kept the batteries in my jacket, so they held charge, but when I put it in the camera in -1C it did not last long. But My Hero 7 has a no distortion lens in it, it's a PeauPro87 3.37mm lens and I'm not keen on ''upgrading' to a camera where I can't install or buy a modified camera, as I do mountain biking POV, so need no distortion to represent the trails how they are in real life. I've been told their newer cameras have overly well glued lenses, Peau Productions have tried to remove it, but they could not do it. I want the possibility of swapping lenses. I would of course only use a no distortion lens. But I'm forced to use Hero Session 4, as it can handle the sub zero temps much better. But Looks like I might need to buy a newer camera if I want 4K. Shame about the lens. Or is the linear mode good on the Hero 12?
