Excellent tool building. Looks like you can make repetitive accurate cuts. Next is marrying it with the plasma table!
Clamp piece of wood cross the pipe (opposite side of the cutting end). Find the centre and mount ball bearing there. Push it against guide to make cut. Centre is easier to line up and eliminates any wobble.

Seems like you can create interesting video about anything.
For years I've been dreaming of making a pipe cutting arrangement a bit like this.
I was gonna use bearings instead of casters and I want to somehow clamp the pipe between three sets of bearings so the pipe is tightly trapped and hopefully aligned so that it won't wander lengthwise.
Nice machine! The lining went pretty easy once it was broken (so it had space to move), maybe if you heat the pieces a little bit expand enough for the lining ring to fall off

That inner layer came off because, by hitting the inside, you asked it to expand and it doesn't like that. Before you were hitting the outside and, like any concretion, it loves compression and is crap at extension.
Great job. I hope that pipe wasn't Asbestos lined.

I believe you have a section of cement lined ductile water pipe. Should not contain asbestos but shares some of the characteristics of cast iron from what I can remember.
Yes, that seems about right. Tough stuff, whatever it is.
@@WayOutWestx2 Asbestos was used in Transite or AC pipe, mostly for storm, sewer and sometimes potable water. It was also used extensively for pipe insulation. I still do not believe your section of ductile iron pipe contains asbestos

I was thinking to myself, you're probably going to need a lathe to clear off that layer of epoxy, but it seems you're ingenuity is still outpacing your need for a lathe.

By the way, the "lining" was probably fur, that sort of cast iron pipe is used for water mains!

Tim, get yourself a few older used iPhones, they make great video cameras. You can buy all sorts of inexpensive brackets for them. I use several of them. Love the show, Eric.

You kind of reverse engineered the Blade Tracking from a Bandsaw Blade with that incline from the Tube. At least thats my guess...

The Pulmonologist in me is concerned that concrete lining is asbestosis.
I am not certain how to test for that. You certainly are going to make a dangerous aerosol if it is.
If you cut it under water it might be safer but I don’t know for certain.

It's water pipe, so I don't think they would use asbestos for that, would they?
That was my first thought as well. Searching on it, Ductile iron (water) pipe has been made with asbestos "cement" lining into the 1980's, one of the properties was an extra smooth surface reducing the need for pumping power. Cant hurt to do a "wet" cut regardless, cement dust also isn't brilliant for once lungs.
@@WayOutWestx2 if the pipe is more then about 10 years old, asbestos is very likely, maybe get it checked.

Looks like you were given a Ductile Iron pipe lined with cement, appears safe enough as it is used for water piping. Just thought it was worth researching.

I'd like to say this , I assume your Australian. I see what's happening, here in usa as well. The test for global control has selected you and yours for mass population reaction. That liner inside the pipe looks like Asbestos to me.

@@michaelmcmanus8931 A farmer friend of mine was saying the mains pipes around here are asbestos.
I think the pipe itself might be malleable cast iron so somewhere between cast iron and steel. Welds ok though.
