    When I was working I used a lot of spray paint cans. If you did not shake it enough some of the solid pieces of paint solids would plug up the nozzles. I had a lot of problems with that, one day I bought a case and ask them if the could shake them on their paint shaker. He shook them but not for long. All cans but 2 from that case, it had broken the tube inside. We were using them to mark logs in recovery studies. They were not wasted, we had to used them upside down. If we had wanted a nice paint finish, they would had been wasted but I sure never got them shaken again.

    • @johnnybotz
      @johnnybotz Год назад

      shaking them at the store is useless. all paints must be mixed before each use. If for nothing else for color to match there are no hard bits. Also cleare nozzle after each use thats where your bits are coming from.

    using a unsecured motor as a lathe, a wood chisel and loose wood block as a rest and tool I am surprised no injury occurred, then grabbing a drawer slide designed for ultra low speed and "occasional" use for a oscillating mechanism and the thought that you have to use a hell of a lot of spray cans to warrant the time and storage space for this seems like a dangerous and total waste of effort and time. But the idea itself isn't that bad but I'd look for different more durable materials and safer construction procedures.

    Well I suppose the main point taken here should be the scope for re-purposing hardware such as the washing machine motor. So many times stuff like this will end up as scrap but I don't know how often I would use this device in order to be worthwhile making it....and then you have another little used gadget cluttering up your workshop. Perhaps designing a platform incorporating the motor and control box but with a number of attachments that do differnent chores for you....a multi-function work station...might be the thing. My young son made an observation, (which did earn him a reprimand and a threat of a clip across the ear), he says that the less energy you use shaking your paint can, then the more you have left later for masturbating! !

    I'd rather have a nonfunctional old washing machine, because it looks so stylish out rusting on my front porch with all the other stuff.

    Using a spring-suspended platform with the springs attached opposite of each other and equipped with a bar clamp would've been a far more effective way of translating rotation into oscillation. Having the wheel on the motor attached so that it pulled the springs back and forth with a slight skew in a third direction would have the springs act as flywheels to store some of the inertia, increasing the amplitude of the vibrations by up to around as much as the spring strengths on either side combined, with the skew adding a slight stirring effect.
    Would also be able to handle far greater paint volumes (larger vibrating weight) without simply vibrating apart. Like the engineering grade illustration below:
    |--- Clamp

    I thing the idea is good but I feel you can do without the higher speed and the fancy bearings. Just use bolts with a smooth shoulder and a little grease. That will hold up for years and cut your costs in half, as well as shorten the build time. The drawer track is excellent for this purpose! Also do away with the full hole in the bracket because many cans have different size caps.

      But that's half the fun! I would have primed and painted it with a high gloss enamel acrylic paint. Then boxed it in for safety using plywood with hinges on the top in back and the front on the bottom in case that renowned administrator and engineer of lucky mischief, Mr. Murphy should be tempted . Plexiglass would be even nicer for the top and front.
      Now's when we get real ornery! Cover the back panel with a mirror and put some two-way mirror film on the front and top inside. Stick some RGB or LED's in there and you have a interesting infinity shaker that modified a bit more could handle 1 gallon cans or one of the most unique martini shakers you ever saw. A Southern Cross or favorite stickers on the outside to taste and it's yours for the naming.

    While your idea to reuse an old washing machine motor for a project is a good idea. My Dad would have loved your channel because he was always challenging me to come up with a way to reuse something. I think your idea is unique, however, I think it is wasted on something so simple a task.
    I have a challenge for you. Take that engine and use it to create a way someone who has a bad back or other issues and come up with a way using a larger track to transport groceries up a flight of stairs. I've long thought of making a box large enough to hold a large bag of groceries that when not in use is collapsible and use old garage door track and rollers attached to a motor of some sort.
    Now that would help a lot of people who can't afford to sell their home because even the cost of a smaller home with less stairs is more than their larger home. In my case it is the rear stairs and I don't care how it looks because it would save me a great deal of pain.
