Lowick church, incidentally, is one of the very finest in England: always locked, and open only during the monthly service (10 AM on the fourth Sunday of each month). The house itself is largely the work of the extinct Mordaunt earls of Peterborough (and Monmouth), from whom it passed to the extinct Sackville dukes of Dorset.
