      Soul is Universal. That having been said, anything and everything that Paul touches is infused with soul. Even when he is rocking out, you can feel the soul in his guitar playing and in his voice. He is just as important as The Beatles, and his eponymous solo album is a Soul/R and B classic! Someday I will own his total collection of albums from all 3 phases of his career! #WellerRules

      Yes, a slight improvement from the terrible and tuneless "Cost of Loving" LP. Critical backlash was deserved so if you ask me. Best thing to happen to Weller was for Polydor to drop him after releasing this dross!

      When you transition from counter culture rage to multicultural soul crooning, your bound to have detractors. Personal preferences have no objectivity. Personally, I liked every stage of their progression

    I've never understood the straight guy presenting them at the beginning and the easy listening style of Weller that went after in the show. Was it a pisstake? Or a serious TV show? Sorry. I was only 8 years old here but it kind of reminds me of Pebble Mill! I know Weller fans are divided on "Confessions Of A Pop Group" but there is no denying that "It's A Very Deep Sea" and "Changing Of The Guard" (that were on this show) are some of the best stuff he has ever done. Still confused though! hahaha

    • @applemask
      @applemask 4 года назад +1

      It's definitely some sort of piss-take, but I'm not sure of the purpose. I'm sure there's some sort of point, but I don't know what it is. Like the magazine ad for "Life in a Top Peoples Health Farm" that ran in the NME - just a medium-close portrait of Paul Weller dressed as Elvis Costello in broken NHS specs and spotted tie - something is being said, but it's hard to tell what. It's like in this whole post-Red Wedge era he was just too angry and depressed and misanthropic to be entirely coherent at times.
