    Thank you Rabbi for educating us. Your channel changed our view of Jewish people as we started to associate genocidal and apartheid State of Israel with Jewish. I have known so many Jewish people of dignity that I was unable to rationalize how such people could have allegiance to State of Israel. Thank you . K listen to your channel now daily.From a Muslim American.

    To the statement about "we need more thinkers than knights in armor..."
    Judaism is suspicious of man's capacity to rationalize. When Kaiser Wilhelm invaded Belgium, he was reminded of his treaty commitments, which his action violated. The Kaiser replied, "We shall take Belgium; let the philosophers find the necessary explanations." The human being has a built in "philosopher" in his mind, which can seek to justify and explain any act to himself and the world. Reason can be a handmaiden of the will, supplying plausible and interesting explanations that are totally false, when you will not or cannot find the truth. A recent thinker once said, "Philosophy is simply the formation of bad reasons for what we believe on instinct."⁵⁶

    As a Muslim,I understand the debt between Devine rules/ theology & its interpretation....ok ....
    What rules humans made always need upgrading or betterment But
    Devine rules is designed who create humans being
    Know how humans intellect work.
    Now, Questions is who is allowed to explain what is Devine words open/hidden meanings????
    Best part is ..both gentlemen's options well respected & that's how the intellectual discussion should be....leave the door open for next thrist
    Well done Rabbi & Sir ..🙏.❤

    Thanks guys, great discussion. Possibly a little bit of a generation gap associated with aspects of the latter end of the chat. Don't forget the influence of advertising and large corporations and media platforms designed to addict everyone to consume, consume, consume. That's hard for young people in particular to resist and it's reinforced by peer pressure as well which in turn is facilitated by advertising. Question: How many rabbis does it take to change a lightbulb?💡😁

    I think morality is a product of social creatures, to treat other like you'd treat yourself, how you'd like to be treated
    good is when you sacrifice your interest for other benefit
    evil is when you sacrifice others' benefit for your own
    and there is an ever present witness, since there is a witness, there is responsibility

    The reason an Eye for an eye must be taken literally, is because the free poor man, will not be able to buy off his punishment, he loses an eye. The free rich man can become a serial eye knock out artist and simply avoid any real punishment. The entire point of “an eye for an eye”, is to force the person contemplating causing pain to another of equal free citizenship, to think about how it might feel to be in his/ her shoes, rich or poor. Yes, there are situations where a rich man can, if the opportunity is granted him, may pay for his life. Slaves lose this freedom, but they can at least run away. Empathy, is forced upon the man who lacks it, with the “an eye for an eye” Torah law.

Problem with Athens was these philosophies like stoicism or platonism were only for elites and they were not transferable to the mases who sometimes are poor or sick to create happinnes to all members of a bigger group. You're exactly right!
      That's why we need to respect freedom of religion but to not allow a government to establish a religion, for the reason you said a secular society is ironically the only one that will ultimately afford citizens their private freedom of religion.

    Hanukkah includes a commemoration of the battle for Jerusalem by the Maccabees as well as the restoration of the Second Temple. You said there weren't any. I don't practice Judaism but every book I've read about Hanukkah includes this story as part of the celebrations.

    • @RabbiYaakov
      @RabbiYaakov  11 месяцев назад +5

      Actually the Talmud, which is the official Jewish version, doesn’t even mention the war victory as part of the celebration, and secondly, the war was not over ownership of Jerusalem but as we all say in our prayers, because the Greeks tried to force up to violate our religion. For our religion we will fight back.

    The Ten Commandments were started by the Sumerians and the are the Esher of El (the Goddess El), which is the origin of Eshrael or Israel in today's version. That is why 'El' is depicted showing her ten fingers to people to follow.. not to kill, not to steal, and the rest. The Ten Commandments became necessary as people were forced to abandon the scattered tribal living and huddle in big cities due to centuries of draughts that hit the Middle East. So, the Ten Commandments are the constitution of living together as one tribe and should in the UN Charter.

    • @EasternRomeOrthodoxy
      @EasternRomeOrthodoxy 11 месяцев назад +1

      ☦️🤝✡️No, pagan, the Sumerians (Shinar in the Bible) were a Cushitic tribe which Nimrod brought with him to conquer Mesopotamia, and just like all descendants of Noah, before the fall of tower of Babel, they were speaking the same language - the Adamic language, which after Eber was renamed "Hebrew" (since it was preserved by him & through Abraham alone), and so, after the confusion of tongues, all peoples in their own way, had a CORRUPTED version of Noah's oral teachings, with both deviations & with elements which stayed the SAME, hence the similarities you see, and with you ignorant backward minds, think that it was the original, when it was the other way around, the exact opposite! So nice try, but we won't let you blaspheme our Abrahamic faiths😁

    A sada ozbiljno:
    Svi se rađamo sa osnovnom Dušom,Nevini.
    No kasnije se obogaćujemo i drugim
    Dušama.
    Prvo ukoliko imamo sreće Majke.
    Zatim ako imamo sreće Oca.
    Čak i prilikom poroda ovisimo o Dušama pri porodu.
    Kasnije uža i šira obitelj.Na kraju zajednica,narod,država.
    Ako smo imali sreće sa obitelji to je plus ali u zajednici,narodu,državi javljaju se razni aspekti pa i nazvati ću to vampirski tj.parazitski aspekti duša.
    Zato je bitna vladavina Prava bez obzira na porijeklo,jednaka i za kralja i za slugu.
    Najdemonskiji aspekt je Aspekt Ega koji kaže:
    Država,to sam ja!
    E,Nisi!

    Do you reject the idea that all the commandments are written twice as two copies? One table has HaShem’s copy, the other Israel’s?
    “And He gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of speaking with him upon mount Sinai, the two tables of the testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” (Exodus 31:18, JPS)

    Bruce Fein legitimately argues for the public recognition of the Ten Commandments as the basis of normative morality. But I wonder about Yaakov Shapiro. He is hard to pin down because in this discussion he clearly likes ambiguity for the sake of argument, as opposed to reaching truth and practicality. As a Jew, does he really believe that the God of Israel, HaShem, is the only true God, and that all others are false? Does he really understand the biblical view that the human heart is by nature evil (Jeremiah 17:9) . I think deep down inside he doesn’t believe this.

    • @RabbiYaakov
      @RabbiYaakov  6 месяцев назад

      Yaakov Shapiro believes with total belief in the Torah. As I explained, my objection is to an out of context understanding of the Ten Commandments, which leads to a misinterpretation of their actual intent.

      Youre mistaken. Masada is a totally Zionist invention. It was nothing to the Jews till the Zionists made it into something. Also, the thugs holed up there were not heroes, even by Zionist standards. They did not fight the Romans, they just killed themselves. The Zionists, as always, made a fictional story out of it. Wasn’t the Ten Commandments addressed to the male audience? Women are equal to men and their husbands only as far as “an eye for an eye” is concerned. In a Torah ruled society, a husband (owner) can’t murder his wife and expect to escape the death penalty, nor can a wife expect to kick her husband in the secrets and escape getting the offending foot cut off! Otherwise, women (children, servants, and wives) are the property of the male family patriarch. The wife has a higher status than the children and servants.

      Too bad God had to write it down, in stone no less, for the chosen ones to figure out how to act civilized.
